They both started out as their own separate festivals/celebrations but over time they gained either Catholic or Christian tendencies. Which only served to make them even more similar, leading confusion for many Americans now a days. Most people know of the similarities but do not know of the origins of either! Even most Americans who celebrate Halloween do not know of it is origins! Day of the dead was a celebration to celebrate the Aztec goddess Mictecacihuatl, Lady of the dead. They celebrated for about a month long in their calendar what all know as August. They had all the same traditions as they do now but back then the altars/shrines they made were at the graves themselves to bring the family/descend person back to the land of the living. Aztecs would spread the flor de muertos (flower of the dead) from the grave sites to their homes. A way of leading the lost souls to their families and loved ones. Aztecs would even make foods and treats with the deceased name on the calaveras de azucar (skull of sugar). For the taxes part chicks were left to face each other, a mirror, sheet of paper (similar colour to theirs), another chick and another chick separated by a cardboard, if the chick walked towards any of them a positive reading was recorded. The kineses part of the experiment was done by placing the 1-2 day old chicks alone in the dark, alone in a lit box, facing a mirror and facing another chick then the average chirp rate was measured as an indication of how stressed they were. The results for the taxes part indicate that the chicks want to be close to one another and have well-developed eye-sight and hearing. ...minerals, vitamins, and other nutritional components is much more difficult that I would have guessed, even for just one day! Though I did manage to find the right combination of foods which would provide me the recommended amount of various nutrients in one day, I cannot eat the same thing every day! Planning the one day took research and attention to detail which I have never used toward planning my daily diet before. I was very happy with the result as I got to enjoy three great meals and a few snacks as well (all similar to my normal eating schedule and habits). It was interesting to see that foods I do enjoy and eat regularly can be combined into a one day super-diet! This reassured me that it is completely possible to plan a healthy diet and maintain it because it includes foods I already enjoy. The most shocking aspect of the diet that I noticed while doing this assignment was that my sodium levels were way outside of the recommended range. I knew that lots of food products have crazy amounts of sodium from my athletic trainers and coaches warnings during my participation in high school sports. I realized during this process that I have not done as good of a job at watching out for that as I thought! The sodium was still a part of the recommended diet that I had to work with a lot, so I am now even more aware and will watch out for its presence in food. As compared to 300 minutes of moderate intensity exercise weekly, I execute around 270 minutes. I do not do muscle strengthening activities at all weekly. I consumed 3,371 calories during the 3 day diet study and my DRI was 7,818. This shows that I consumed 4,447 less calories than is recommended.
