...Final Project: Art Timeline The Art of Chinese Painting “Landscapes” Axia College University of Phoenix Art /101 Chinese paintings can be found dating as far back as the Neolithic period. These paintings incorporate a combination of Western and Chinese painting styles. There is one category of Chinese painting that has increasingly become more interesting to artist and viewers. It is Chinese landscape painting. “Chinese Landscape painting is the most popular style of painting in the rich artistic legacy of traditional China” (Art Realization, 2005). This particular category of painting includes two schools of painting, Northern and Southern. The Northern school includes professional and court painters, while the Southern school includes amateur and gentle man painters. (Ethnicpaintings, 2011). Artist expressed themselves by painting the natural world around them. The view of nature allowed people to seek comfort and safety. Dong Qichange was a controversial politician regarded as an outstanding Chinese landscape painter. He was born in 1555 in what is known today as Shanghai, China. In addition to being a painter he was also a calligrapher and theoretician. His most remarkable contribution to art was introducing new ways to present thoughts in painting landscape views. Thus, you have the Northern and Southern styles of art. The Northern school of art taught about obtaining truth through art, and the Southern School stressed...

He was especially interested in conveying the hints of seasons and times of day in his paintings. In this particular painting Old Trees, Level Distance, it looks as if the painting was done for a fellow government official the night before he retires. You can see the leafless trees as well as what appears to be an elderly couple approaching a pavilion. The artist uses shading as well as colors to show the appearance of mist in the painting. ...that, the value of the major portion of artistic knowledge even seems predominantly determined by its application. Finally, regardless of the outcome, application of knowledge largely increases its value. The two areas of knowledge chosen were history and the arts. “History is an unending dialogue between the present and the past.”, (Carr, 2016) suggested by a historian Edward H. Carr, strongly suggests that the relationship between the past and the present is two-way: while the past certainly affects the present, the present also affects the significance of the events that happened in the past, since a person’s learning from such incidents and applying them to solve current problem increase historical events’ extrinsic value. For example, the value of the League of Nations, established after the World War 1 to prevent another world war clearly increased when politicians applied what they had learned from LON in creating the United Nations after the World War 2. Intrinsic value of LON as a preventative of war was meagre because it did not possess any military enforcement measure and could not restrict the withdrawal of the members, factors which ultimately rendered axis powers responsible for WW 2 uncontrolled. (Dictionary of American History, 2003) However, when UN was to be established in 1945, legislators evaluated the failure of LON and worked on to clear any problem that LON was suffering from. Eventually, UN came to possess the UN Peacekeeping force and stringent rules for...

...Art is an important part of every society. It tells of the history of the people, their culture and it depicts at each phase, what the society is going through. In today's fast paced era, people are almost always preoccupied with the chores of today and the concerns of tomorrow and they hardly find time to devote in appreciating various artforms which may have been one of their several childhood interests. Also, people's interests are increasingly changing and aligning with the art attractions of the latest century like metal music over classical or carnatic, plastic decorative furniture over ancient terracota for their homes and so on. Thus, largely lack of government funding can endanger the flourishing of arts and their availability to all people. Government ignoring the arts can lead to a loss of history. An example is Nigeria. All around the country are works of art were exhumed from the ground years ago: the figurines in Esie, the works of Nok, the golden tusks in Benin. The government doesn’t fund the arts and today works of Nigerian arts are found in museums all over the world . They are in the Louvre in Paris, museums in Italy and London but can hardly be found in Nigeria. The few ones left are in such a terrible state; information provided on the work seem bogus and inaccurate. Whereas in other nations like Italy, France, the original works of arts hang in such places as the Louvre and Vatican city and tells the story of the people because Government funds the arts...

...dada art (pages 1148-1152). This art form in my opinion is the most conversial art form ever in America’s history and greatly interests me due to the misconception about this art form. With artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Raoul Hausmann, and Hans Arp, these artists show the complexity and un-guide lined art that is called data art. With this new form of art, people had no idea how to react to something that was not known as art for so many years but meaningless scribbles until the 20th century. I’m going to give you a little history and perspectives in this type of art, known as dada art. You will understand why this art form is much speculated to not be an art form but something that is being portrayed as “anti-art”. With similar acts of great self-expression shown throughout history, always comes some form of hate towards these expressions. Georges Hugnet the author of The Bulletin of the Museum of Modern Art Vol. 4, No. 2, Dada and Surrealism states that, “Dada is ageless, it has no parents, but stands alone, making no distinction between what is and what is not.” “It approves while denying, it contradicts itself, and acquires new force by this very contradiction.” The origin of dada art is said to be created by Romanian poet Tristan Tzara, yet Richard Huelsen and Hugo Ball had discovered the name dada by randomly by plunging a knife into a dictionary repeatedly. Dada was an international signifier of negation, which this art took the almost proven factor out of art. This...

...‘El Presidente’ Movie Review (MMFF) — January 1, 2013 Watching it on big screen, for two hours and 40 minutes is never boring, whether you are fully grounded with the history of the Philippines or not. “El Presidente” tackles the story of the first president of the Philippines, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. “El Presidente” movie brought into life the story of the first president of the Republic of the Philippines, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. It is not a film for all Filipinos but only for those who have high regard to Philippine Independence. If you are Andres Bonifacio fanatic, this is not for you. Members of the Bonifacio clan might be of total outrage rightnow for the film has put Bonifacio in somewhat a ‘bad light.’ Directed by Mark Meily, “El Presidente” offers a beautiful journey back to history with great action scenes and cinematography. The lines, in Filipino, Spanish, and English are well-thought. Casting big names in Philippine showbiz like Cesar Montano, Christopher De Leon, Allan Paule, Sid Lucero, and Joko Diaz, among others was a good move as they portrayed their roles excellently. Montano‘s portrayal as Bonifacio is believable and is deserving of his Metro Manila Film Festival Best Supporting Actor award though those who have watched him portrayed Jose Rizal might have a hard time picturing him as Bonifacio. Having comedian Bayani Agbayani in the cast is okay, just that his mustache looks funny. The same goes with the other cast who wear funny looking mustaches. The...

...joint which connect literature with politics and establish a method of analyzing political speeches called polio-linguistic approach. Thus we can consider political discourses as pieces of literature. Literary techniques especially rhetorical devices serve as one of the most distinctive features of the greatest and most influential speeches of all time. There is no shortage of rhetorical devices used in these speeches, but we can prioritize them by count of repetitions in political discourses. In this study first I have represented the necessity of using these types of persuasive skills in political discourses, the methods within which politicians take advantages of these skills and the different sides of a successful speech. Then after a glance through different rhetorical devices, excerpts from four of the greatest speeches in history are provided with the rhetorical devices indicated in them. Finally a quite deep examination of the most important of these rhetorical devices is presented and the conclusion is made through comparing these samples. The primary purpose of every presenter or rhetorician is to grab people`s attention. After that he/ she needs to convey people`s thoughts and beliefs in his/her to desirable direction. This is a hard job and needs a big deal of effort and commitment. In...

...Having The Arts in Elementary Schools A Review of the Literature Detra B. Bynum Capella University Author Note This paper was prepared for Education 5200, taught by Leonard Snyder Abstract My literature review will show a connection between cognition, social and emotional development and the arts. Some students in schools where the arts are an integral part of the academic program tend to do better in school than those students where that is not the case. It will also show why it is so important to have art and music classes in the elementary schools. It will also show how the teachers can help develop cognitive skills by using the arts in their lesson plan. They can intertwine the creative arts curriculum with other subject such as reading; math and science to develop better studying, concentration and listening skills. Studies will show that children need expressionism with the other subjects to complete their learning process. The review will show why the arts need to be implemented back in the curriculum of elementary schools. We have the opinions of others, that younger school children should be required to study math language; science and history are those people who think it may not be necessary to learn art and music. Contrary to those people's viewpoint, my strong opinion regarding that statement is that younger school children have to be required to study art and music. This literature review may point out that art and music...

...CONTACT US ANYTIME A year after hosting the 2016 Olympics, Rio is experiencing a spike in violence. Days before Carnival, rival drug gangs closed major transportation arteries of the city. Continue reading the main story Advertisement Continue reading the main story Last year Rio used almost 12,000 police officers during Carnival, and also counted on the help of 9,000 members of the country’s armed forces. This time there was no federal aid during the festivities. Politicians avoided Rio during one of the most political Carnivals in Brazil’s history, with revelers singling out for criticism Mr. Pezão, President Michel Temer and especially Mayor Marcelo Crivella, an evangelical bishop who is no fan of Carnival and left the city for Europe. The samba school Beija-Flor de Nilópolis won the parade title on Wednesday in Rio’s Sambadrome using corruption as a theme. One of its floats portrayed a rat below the building of the state oil company Petrobras, which is at the center of a corruption scandal that has engulfed politicians across Latin America. ...Artistic Monuments The Age of Pericles refers to the period in Greek history that spans from the Persian Wars in 448 BCE to the death of Pericles 429 BCE or the Peloponnesian War in 404 BCE. Pericles was an Athenian general, politician and orator known for his noteworthy achievements. He gave Athens an unmatched splendor. Hence, his name denotes the Athenian Golden Age. High Italian Renaissance peaked in the 15th century. The Renaissance is known for numerous cultural achievements. Works of art by Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and architectural structures such as The Duomo and St. Peter's Basilica were created during this time. On the Greek side, the Age of Pericles also produced various works of arts known for perfection. The works were religious such as Temple of Olympian Zeus, Temple of Apollo in Delphi, the massive project Acropolis of Athens which was built by the best architects, sculptors and workers during their time. The Acropolis was considered the most perfect monument in Greek art. During the High Italian Renaissance, Italy's condition was less than perfect but it somehow inspired the citizens to build the best architectural structures. The Age of Pericles saw an era of progress for the Greeks and through the financial aid of the Delian League, Greek art and sculptures also flourished during this time. High Italian Renaissance plunged Italy into turmoil was wars and invasions spread. In sharp contrast, Age of Pericles saw relative peace...

...Great White Fathers By John Taliaferro History 1302 MW 9:00 a.m. The main idea of the book was obsession. It was an obsession that spanned many lives and many decades, and wore many names. In South Dakota, it was Doane Robinson, an historian and avid promoter of the state’s many virtues, along with Peter Norbeck, a native of the state who rose through the ranks of state government to the United States Senate, who wanted to bring the bountiful fruits of the tourism industry home. Then, there was the general obsession by the American people, or at least the wealthy and influential ones, to memorialize every great person or important event in American history. Finally, there was Gutzon Borglum himself, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore. His was a life of obsession from beginning to end. South Dakota was a beautiful place, but out of the way. It also had a seriously flagging economy. Robinson and Norbeck felt that by exploiting the natural beauty and history of South Dakota they could draw tourists from all over the country, and perhaps the world, into their backyard thus breathing new life into the economy. The problem was getting them there. They concluded that the Black Hills should be the centerpiece of their plan, with some sort of monument to the important figures of the region such as General George Custer, killed at Little Big Horn, along with Sioux heroes such as Sitting Bull or Crazy Horse. As the automobile began to weave itself into the fabric of American...

... 1 Seminar in Art History Aesthetics October 8, 2013 Research Proposal Banksy From what we know now graffiti can be said to have dated as far back as ancient history. From the existence of the first prehistoric cave paintings to the Egyptian hieroglyphics, an identity to the way of living that existed in those periods of time was discovered. Now in the modern era the artistic form of graffiti has changed its style once more. In the late 1980s and early 1990s a new wave trend of hip hop music was transformed and therefore, spawned a new culture of artistic expression. Better known now as street art or illegal art, several graffiti artists such as the most well known urban street artist Banksy, find themselves out of place in today’s society. This is due to the fact of the different way of order that limits these expressions primarily by the government’s control and power. What we once saw in early history as normal, has now been taken for granted and those important expectations of life have been forgotten. Banksy’s street art responds to these social inclinations in an illegal and yet clever aesthetic way, where his identity remains unknown and his art revealed. In a brief research of my sources it can be said that what is already known about graffiti in general is the public’s response to it as being...

...greatness in any field – such as the arts, science, politics, or business – that person’s achievements are more important than any of his or her personal faults?” When someone attains greatness in any field – such as the arts, science, politics, or business, should we judge the individual by his or her personal life or by the achievement only? In my opinion, focusing on the achievement is far more important and relevant than on personal faults. Personal mistakes are part of human life, if they have no link with your accomplished work, we should not take them into consideration. Many great individuals succeed despite some personal flaws or missteps. I will illustrate this statement with several examples of memorable men. Winston Churchill was a British politician, officer, historian and writer during the 20th century. He served as prime minister twice; he was recognized as one of the greatest wartime leaders of his century and received the Nobel Prize in literature. His weakness was to appreciate alcohol at any time of the day. Nevertheless, the fact that he appreciated alcohol is irrelevant to judge his accomplishments, especially in difficult time of war, in the field of politics. This statement is available for any field. For example, in the Arts, let’s take the case of Roman Polanski. He achieves greatness as a film director, a producer and a writer. His films received multiples awards and nominations. However, he has a legal history, arrested for sexual abuse case. My...
