Have you ever thought about the idea of year-round school? Take a moment to think about what “year-round school” is. Most people would think 12 months of school with only holiday breaks but is that really what year-round school is? According to The Charlotte Observer year round school isn’t necessarily year-round school, “Schools are typically in session for 45 to 60 days, followed by two-week breaks, during which teachers provide voluntary tutoring and sessions. Summer vacation lasts four to six weeks.” The idea or goal behind year-round schooling is to limit the amount of information lost from the previous school year. A typical summer vacation is on average 10 to 12 weeks beginning in early June and ending in early September or mid-August.

...brim with excited children bursting out of their respective schools and into their favorite part of the year: summer break. The following three months are filled with exactly what those enrolled in school want–no pressure to perform academically. Though the majority of the United States is in agreeance with the traditional structure, the population of year-round supporters is ever growing. Persuasive Essay On Year Round School

...months to relax, but for some kids in the US they have to worry about going back to school in 15 days. Approximately 3,181 schools in the US offer year-round school and imagine you went to one of them. There is no point in year-round school therefore why have it? Kids deserve a real summer break, not just 15 days. Year-round school does not help kids test scores go up. And lastly, year-round school costs way more money than regular calendar schools. Year-round schooling is just not a good idea. Kids need a real summer break for all the hard work they do in school, but some kids don’t get that. Instead, they’re stuck with only 15 days to relax before going back to school and no time to hang out with friends or sleep in late. And schools need the summer to repaint rooms and clean out the school before it starts again. But with year-round school schools never really get a chance to do that. Jessica Fletty, a mother says, “Honestly, I am against it. My oldest is in first grade and I think they need that bit of a break.” Even though kids with a regular school schedule go to school the same amount of time as year-round school students, kids should get a break. Why have a bell that will just remind kids they’ll be back in another 15 days?...

Year Round School Case Study

...The county wants to change the regular school schedule into a year round school year in my opinion, I think this is the worst idea ever.I have 3 reasons why this idea is totally horrendous and in this essay I will tell you why. The first reason I think the year round schedule is horrible is because we lose vacation time.If we had only 6 short weeks of summer everyone would go on vacation at the exact same time and it would be all packed. We would we stressing out about studying while weŕe trying to have fun at the beach. It would be challenging for teachers because instead of having a great time with their family, they are sitting in their bed grading papers. The second reason I think this schedule is ludicrous is because we would not have...

Year-Round To School

...Dark circles under the eyes, dragging feet, long yawns, tired expressions and outrageously messy bedhead are all descriptions for a modern student in school in the United States; furthermore, this student does not attend year around school. Try to conjure an clear image of what a student who goes year-round to school might look like: grotesque. Not only are students already tired and sleep deprived, they are yearning for snow-days and summer break. Thus, changing the school system to year around would certainly discourage, tire, and be an inconvenience for many attendees. Many educators and parents could certainly agree that students are overloaded and at the point of implosion, or explosion. For example, in curriculum students are increasingly...

Benefits Of Year-Round Schooling

...Honors English 18 April 2017 YEAR-ROUND SCHOOLING: IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION In the article, “Should American Schools Go Year Round?” Sindhu Nair suggests the current academic calendar is past its time: This schedule was established when the United States was still a largely agrarian nation. At that time, this system was implemented because children were often needed to work in the fields during the summer. Since those reasons no longer make sense in this modern world, many people are advocating a shift away from this ‘antiquated’ nine month school year in favor of year round education. Used in most American schools, the current school calendar, designed in the late 1800’s, no longer meets the...

The Importance Of Year-Round Education

..."Year-round education is a change in the school year calendar so the long summer vacation of the traditional school year is reduced to some degree," explains Charles Ballinger, executive director of the National Association for Year-Round Education (NAYRE). Among 34 nations around the globe, the United States has one of the most limited school years. As the customary school year in America is 180 days. South Korean youngsters burn through 220 days complete in the classroom while Finland has a 190 day school year. Both instructive frameworks rank higher than the United States in math and sciences. Hypothetical Scenarios: School Year-Round School

...Hypothetical Scenario: Your school is considering going to school year round. If school was to go year round there could be multiple of stuff that could make it displeasing for the students and teachers. First is problem in this scenario is summer break, then there is the problem of kids skipping half days because the electives aren’t as important as core classes and also the problem of students having a great breaks from learning math, english, science, and history during the school year. To me in my life taking summer break will be a bad thing, not only for me but also for my dad because he relies on me for the three months of no school to increase the amount of work/money he gets which affects my family a lot. I know many teens who do the same with their family, three weeks off after every nine weeks of school would be pretty cool I’d admit but it wouldn’t be enough to help family businesses like construction like what I do. After all it doesn’t take three weeks or four weeks to finish a big apartment building that my family works on every summer break, or doing field work. The amount of time off is not great enough for all those who do hard labor, in a city it would be more fitting of this school schedule but in a place in montana where...

Argument

...attending school year round. People seem to think that if students are forced to go to school as long as students in other countries, they will be more studious. To be honest, I have always been interested in the lives of students who go to school all year. How can they stand being around their classmates and teachers all the time? Do they any get weekends off? Do they get any vacation time to be with their families? I wonder if the new arrangement will really make kids more interested in their studies. A lot people, including myself, feel that kids and teachers just need time to themselves. Also, people claim that the extended school time will leave less time for kids to get in trouble. While the argument is understandable, there is no guarantee that more school would keep kids out of trouble. If anything, depending on your child, it might get them time to get into even more trouble. Depending on how attentive the staff and administration of your child's school is, they could just cause problems there, and probably get away with more since there are no parents around. There has also been talk that students do not need the long break because they can forget what they learned in class. There have also been claims that students will be forced to study more and focus longer in class. For me, and many others with ADD, although possible, it would be quite difficult to do. Students who already take on lots of extracurricular activities will be too stressed out for school. One year I went...

Personal Narrative: Moving To China

...My life changed when I moved to China. Stepping into China at the age of four was like stepping into a 3-round fight, because I wasn’t familiar with the language, people or culture. I moved from a comfort zone, to a foreign land where streets were buzzling with people, factories were pumping out black smoke, and the people were friendly and curious. As I entered round one of the fight, I had to get over the language barrier because when I first moved to a bilingual school in the first grade, I could only speak a few words of Mandarin. So even though I had no one to practice with at home, I had to teach myself how to be comfortable in situations where I couldn’t understand others. Sometimes as I was practicing, my classmates would laugh at my pronunciation, and some days I even wanted to quit the fight, but I learned that this was just another hurdle to overcome and develop my resilience from. Learning 800 Mandarin characters per year allowed me to cross this language divide and make friends with my Chinese classmates. These types of experiences are what make me able to communicate effectively with...
