...The Importance of God. The importance of God is something that I feel that many people overlook in their lives, and lack of knowledge is what I feel is the cause of this overlook. God has played a major role in my life since I was a little boy and without the faith of his teaching, I don’t know where I would be. The peace of mind I receive when I read the bible or go to church is one I wish I could let everyone feel. But I am doing my duty to spread as much of the teachings of Christ as possible. There have been a lot of things that have happened in my life that I know God has pulled me through. My grandmother has always given me the word and it has taught me how to deal with other situations that I would have leaned on my own understanding to solve. With God, all things are possible and I am thankful to have this opportunity to write to someone who may not know about him. At one point in time, I lost my job. My mother was not able to help me and all I was able to do was pray. One Sunday, I went to church and my pastor, without me telling him, asked if I was still working. Just like that out of the blue, I was shocked. I told him about my situation and he let me know one of his colleagues was looking for a part-time worker, the next day I interviewed and I got hired on the spot. Had I leaned on my own understanding and not went to church to pray and worship, I would not have the job that I’ve had for two years. God is always there when I need him, and he can be there for...

...Vocal Music in the Medieval and Early Baroque Periods The word medieval can be translated to ‘the time in between’, referring to the time between the Roman Empire and the beginning of the Renaissance in 1450. Religion and church music was very important in this time period because it was the only music that was important enough to be documented. The idea of combining two or more lines together began to be used in large churches as a way to emphasize certain words. Plainchant, a piece of music made up of only one line, was the basis of the early medieval period, where the other vocals were used for lines above the plainchant and below it, making much shorter notes. Soon, a motet was introduced. A motet is when each vocal line has it’s own words, creating up to three texts at once, making the texture more dense. The Church was extremely powerful during the Medieval period. The elaboration in music during this period is related to the liturgy and how it was spoken. In Chants such as the psalms, lessons or prayers, the music is a direct translation of the text to be used within the Church. Also important to the Church, the hymns and sequences were organized into pattern and rhymes. Gregorian Chants not only were for the liturgy, but also for the polyphonic music of the Medieval Period. From the 12th century, secular music...

...The Islam Religion Rel/134 The Islam Religion “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God” is the basic core belief in the Islamic religion. Islam means “submission (to God)” in Arabic. Islam is a monothetic religion whose followers are known as Muslims. This paper will be clearing common myths in the Islamic religion, explaining the sacred texts, and giving descriptions of common symbolism in Islamic text and religious practices. Also to be found in the paper is the historical foundation of the religion and some of the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity. Islam traces its roots back to Abraham and his son Ishmael. In 570 AD, a descendant of Abraham named Mohammed was born. He began his life working as a shepherd for his uncle. In 610 AD, the Qur’an begins to be revealed to Mohammed by God. By 650 AD, the complete written text of the Qur’an is established. Only one hundred years after Muhammad’s death, Islam had spread around the Mediterranean. The Golden Age of Islam (750-1258 AD) saw new legal, philosophical, and religious developments. The major Hadith collections were compiled and the four modern Sunni Madh'habs, or schools of law were established. As the Caliphate, or Islamic Empire expanded, the Muslim culture became enriched by the scholars, poets, and scientists that they conquered. For example, many Muslim thinkers pursued humanistic, rational and scientific discourses in seeking knowledge, meaning and values...

...socialization. They include family, peers, school, and the mass media. Of the four agents, family is considered the primary agent of socialization. The other three agents of socialization, peers, school, and the mass media, are considered secondary agents of socialization. Though these are considered secondary agents, they are very important components of socialization. Many people tend to forget about the function and importance of these three agents. It is important for people to realize that family is not the only agent of socialization. Family is the most significant agent of socialization but the secondary agents, peers, school, and the mass media, must not go unrecognized. As earlier stated, family is the primary agent of socialization. This is so because family is one’s first view of social value. This is valid in all societies. Family sizes and structure vary from household to household and from culture to culture. These play key roles on how one grows up and views the world. Families serve as important functions in society because they are the primary locus for the socialization of children. They are also the primary source of emotional support. They often go through the same things at the same time and can provide comfort for one another. This allows and causes families to bond and build trust for one another. Family is where people gain specific social views that can follow them throughout their whole lives. This is where most learn about and choose their religion. Many often...

...whether official or not. Section One Skills Learned and Practiced I learned and practiced many skills during my internship. The first type of skill utilized during my internship was people skills. This is particularly true in regards to client interactions. Learning how to listen and ask questions in order to determine their needs is key, and something that took me a while to learn. Thankfully, I was able to assist two experienced designers who I could watch interact with customers so that I could learn the right questions to ask. Another skill I practiced was patience, because even if your ask the right questions some people take longer to make decisions or will even change their mind multiple times. Each person is different and has different needs. Some need to come in several times and think each thing over for several days. Others need constant input and counsel for every product they look at. There a customers that want to be left entirely alone. Customers often come in knowing exactly what they want, and just need to find it. Determining what kind of customer you are assisting and how to approach each of these customers is key to good customer service. The other key to customer service is to serve all with a positive attitude. As a believer in Christ, the idea of serving others without complaint is familiar and part of all Christian’s ministry. I am glad I got the opportunity to practice working with clients and getting used to how to interact with them before...

Building and maintaining relationships with employees or members in a team is what researchers tend to focus on more. There are reviews on psychological research on leaderships and they have been conducted for many years. Examples show that leadership is an independent variable (e.g. Bass, 1990; Rost, 1991; Yukl, 1989). This essay will talk about the importance of interpersonal leadership. But more importantly, this essay will discuss the possible arguments some authors and researches have put forward against interpersonal leadership and also how despite all the arguments, the weight of interpersonal leadership is much heavier. This essay...

...and racial identity development, and other dimensions of identity that may cause a biased predisposition towards individuals who are outside of their own cultural perspectives. Individual Reflections When assessing guidelines one and two, I’m inclined to think I am a pretty non-judgmental individual in regards to culturally different groups. In my opinion this is possible because I have lived in many locations with many different cultural beliefs because of the military. When I was growing up, there really were not many individuals who were culturally or racially different. This lack of diversity caused a false perception that everyone was the same. After moving to Florida I learned that there are many different cultures, races and beliefs outside what I knew. At first it was different therefore I was a very judgmental individual but as years passed and I continued on life’s journey through Guam, Louisiana and now North Dakota I have a better understanding of how the cultural differences are vital in defining what makes America the country it is. Perception of Cultural Differences This does not say I am completely unbiased as being part of the military life for so many years I’ve discovered there is a bias against individuals who may represent the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda and its host, the Taliban in Afghanistan. This is solely based on the war that these individuals brought forth on our country and the harm they caused our people. However, I have also...

...Mental illness hinders millions of lives on a daily basis, especially the lives of college students. Anxiety is among the most common mental illnesses that a person will encounter throughout their life, either because they were born with it, develop it, or meet someone who has it. One thing that people struggle with, though, is the difference between being nervous and having anxiety; the two are completely different levels. It’s normal and healthy for people to experience and cope with nervousness- you can experience nervousness over a test, over texting the person you like to see if they want to grab dinner, or anything else that creates those butterflies on our stomachs. Anxiety is nervousness times ten- there’s a physical component....

...Practice of human service across different cultures Sarahi Alvarenga 05 July 2013 Walden University Cultural diversity refers to the process through which different cultures respect other people’s differences and the variety of human cultures or societies. In general, cultural diversity therefore refers to the existence of different value systems and multiplicity of subcultures in a multicultural or plural society or any other setting. Cultural diversity therefore calls for people to appreciate other people’s culture by respecting their way of life and the way they perform their different rituals, taboos and other cultural practices (Lee, et al, 2011). ...individual. We all seek to be happy at all times and in fact humans struggle, come up with inventions, at times are cruel to others in wars, we study, start revolutions and follow certain belief systems all in the quest of finding happiness. Customs are the practices and systems followed by particular people or even a religion. They are also the generally accepted ways of behaving and doing things in a particular society. The customs followed can be a good way of differentiating the affiliation to one group from the other. The customs are so much intertwined with the human quest for joy and happiness. We in fact follow customs that we feel convicted that we are going to get the sense of fulfilment from and be better individuals. We can therefore attribute human actions and believes to their quest for happiness and joy. For example in religion, most individuals practice it all because of the promise of the joy to come later in life. Among the Christians, the believers are persistent and resilient in life despite the challenges that they go through to remain faithful to the teachings of the Lord God as is prescribed in the Holy Bible that they use as a point of reference. They are able to beat the challenges on earth and even an illustration of Job in the Bible who went through very traumatic experiences as a test from Satan but stood strong by his faith. It is the strong conviction that the world may be cruel but the most high will always reward those who are faithful with eternal...

...Heritage Assessment Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion 03.20.2016 Kristine Matteson In healthcare there is ethnic and cultural diversity in our patient population. Healthcare workers consider the cultural and ethnic backgrounds while interacting and treating a patient. As nurses we have the responsibility of being culturally competent. This allows us to integrate cultural health related beliefs in treatment plans and allows us to bridge any gaps between cultural and ethnic health maintenance, protection and restoration beliefs. Many of these health related beliefs come from a person’s heritage. Culture and heritage are terms that are similar and can be used interchangeably. Culture refers to “the learned and shared beliefs, values, and life ways of a group that are generally transmitted from one generation to the next and influence people's thoughts and actions.” (Smith, 2009, pg. 272) Heritage is defined as “something inherited at birth, such as personal characteristics, status, and possessions or anything that has been transmitted from the past or handed down by tradition.” (Webster, n.d) This paper focuses on the interview and assessment of three families from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds using the Heritage assessment tool...

...setting, valuing relationships in both a personal and business level, genuinely caring for others and motivating others to thrive. This style also lies under the Constructive style in the circumplex. The Constructive style, which lies above the 11, 12, 1, and 2 o’clock positions, describes how people are good at forming relationships with people and building trust so that as a group they can successfully complete tasks. Motivation comes within to achieve satisfaction. This style best describes who I am as person in a professional setting as well as when I am with family and friends. Shortly after being hired as an International Customer Support Specialist, in an effort to get to know and develop relationships with my other team members, I had an urge to join the Rewards and Recognition team. As a team, our task was to organize events through out the year to show appreciation for our customer service department. I enjoyed being in the company of my teammates. I listened to their opinions and motivated them when needed. I developed trust with my team by always offering help, like when we had to decorate the office area on a Sunday afternoon, knowing it was done on personal time. As a result each event was organized and was a success. I agree with the LSI result describing my primary style as being Affiliative. My urge of wanting to be in the company of people, feeling needed and helping others makes me feel satisfied and accomplished. In fact I feel most happy when I’m in the company...
