It’s such a tragedy to see trash scattered all over the side ditches when I go on my daily walks. The rivers are horrifically polluted. The sky turns a dark gray once all the chemicals are released into the air. We are hurting our environment as we speak. If you don't put chemicals on your lawn at the correct time its killing hundreds of thousands of organisms by the day. I went to Chicago a few years ago, we took a boat tour. The river was incredibly mirky. If you even touch the water you could get sick, it’s that polluted. If there were any fish alive they could barely swim. This is all because of us. Man himself is hurting his own home. We have been harming the environment for years. This is nothing new. It just keeps progressing. In “The Silent Spring” by Rachel Carson(1962) says the most alarming of all man's assaults upon the environment is the contamination of air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even lethal materials. Dr. Seuss wrote The Lorax based on his personal view on the environment. He transformed all of the then current situations and turned into something to make even kids aware about pollution and all the bad things happening to the environment. He portrayed the Lorax, he said “my poor Bar-ba-loots are all getting the crummies because they have gas, and no food, in their tummies!” because in the story he made the antagonist chop down a lot of trees. He continued to say “My poor Swomee-Swans...why, they can't sing a note! No one can sing who has smog in his throat,” because in the story the factory was polluting the air with all the nasty chemicals. Finally he said,”You’re glumping the pond where the Humming Fish hummed. No more can they hum, for their gills are all gummed.” (S., 1971P) This happened because Mr. Once-ler dumped all this gross gunk in the pond.
