Being a teenager is a strange yet exciting part of life. Teenager faced tough and critical decision each and every day – decision that will effect their lives. Everyone goes though the teenage years, but as people get older, they seem to lose touch of their teenage experience and feel as though they can’t relate to anything that teenagers go though.

There are numerous of pros and cons of being a teenager. One of the advantages is most of the teens in our country need not to take big responsibility compared to those adolescences living in India and Africa. They worked very hard day and night in order to put rice on their family’s plate despite their salary is dirt cheap.

I believes that most of the teenagers over here have sufficient love and affection from their parents or any other people who is related and close to them such as grandparents or relatives. Hence, attentions from all these kind souls will helps them in developing better personality and attitude towards overcoming obstacles in future. However, lack of love in a teen, will lead them in committing crimes. It is not only applied to those suffering in poor family but surprisingly, it occurred to rich brats too. As their parents are way too busy in search of money and slipped away the responsibility of a good parent which is to care for their children.

Furthermore, teenagers have a little more freedom to hang out with their friends at shopping complex and meeting up for meals, compared to when they were a little younger. Parents will put more faith in them, believe that their children know what they were doing. Believe that they can now differentiate what is right and what is wrong to them. Believe that they can live by themselves one day. And I believe that not any more parents will open their school bag daily and check if they were to finish their homework before going out or question them if

Are You Aware of What Your Child Is Doing Online?

...this day and time social networking is a way of life with teenagers. With websites like facebook, twitter, linked in, and myspace we can update everything we do day to day in a matter of seconds. We can also post pictures, tell who are with us, and inform people of our location. These are all excellent things if they are used in the positive light of social networking, but how often are they not? Teenagers are now using these sites to harass and bully peers online. They also leave doors open for adult predators and identity theft. There has been research on the effects of social networking in teens that closely link them to low grades, psychological and social problems, and not being as active which leads them to being overweight. Statistics show that about 75% of teenagers have cell phones, which raises the question “Are we aware of what our teens are posting online”? There are many pros to our children using social media but we as parents have a duty to protect them. We must be good role models and be aware of privacy issues and concerns. There are advancement’s in today’s technology that make it easy for our children to network and stay in touch with their peers. Children who are not likely to socialize the traditional way because of shyness and social anxiety can use their PC’s to communicate with others. Children that have disabilities that prevent them from going out are still able to keep in contact with the outside world. Kids join groups with kids that have similar lifestyles...

Pros And Cons Of Joining Gangs

...where you are from does not exclude you from being part of a gang. Then again there are many other reasons as to why teens join gangs. It is not because of your age or ethnicity, but because of peer pressure, family members, and the need of excitement in their life. Many people experience peer pressure and teens are no exception. In a study done in 2009 in Sonoma County it was reported that “59% of youths identified as juvenile delinquents indicated that peer pressure and the absence of family bonding were the main factors of perpetuating gang participation” (www.myelsie.org/pp.gang.html). Also, gangs aim to get at teens because they are most likely to get easily persuaded into jointing them. “If they live in a gang-dominated area, or go to a school with a strong gang presence, they might find that many of their friends are joining gangs” (www.myelsie.org/pp.gang.html) and...

Sex Education

...Edwards 1 Courtney Edwards Research Paper November 13, 2011 Pros and Cons of Sex Education in Schools Sex education in public school has been a controversial issue in the United States for quite a while now.   I feel like it really needs to be into schools with so many teen pregnancies, HIV and STD’s cases sex education is needed. Most of the American public believes that sex education should be taught at home by the children’s parents. They feel this way because the sex education programs in schools do not emphasize on abstinence instead they encourage the children to have sex instead. American culture is very sexually oriented. When you turn on your TV or listen to music sex   is all you can hear. The pros of sex education in school are countless. Sex education in school gives the kids opportunities to express themselves with their sexuality. It also prevents them from becoming parents at an early age. Each year, U.S. teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs). By age 18, 70 percent of U.S. females and 62 percent of U.S. males have initiated vaginal sex. When expressing comprehensive sex education is effective at assisting young people to make healthy decisions about sex and to obtain healthy sexual behaviors. No abstinence-only-until-marriage program has been shown to help teens delay the initiation of sex or to protect themselves when they do initiate sex. The U.S. government...

Compare and Contrast

...Vs. Traditional High schools Cheryl Zang COM/155 April 20, 2014 Cathy Smith Alternative vs. Traditional High schools Adolescents are the future of America. With this being well known, why do we as members of society often look down upon the ones that have a questionable past and have graduated from an alternative high school? This is the question that makes me wonder if we are creating a better future for society, or just creating a world that disgraces people for trying to succeed. We all know that we cannot always help the hand that we are dealt in life; all we can do is work to better our life and change our future from the life we were born into. Alternative high schools give adolescents that opportunity to make a better future and to help steer them in the right direction. Alternative schools are more valuable than traditional schools for troubled adolescents because of increased graduation rates, and the ability to make up credits. Many members of society fail to look at all the details when they hear or see the term alternative. Although, it may seem as if there are a lot of differences between the two schools, they have a lot of similarities as well. Both schools have the same requirements for students to graduate at the end of their senior year. This makes it to where just because the teen has chosen to enroll in an alternative school, they do not get any breaks in the educational requirements needed to graduate. Alternative and traditional high schools have the...

Comput

...Computer Game Addiction - Symptoms, Treatment, & FAQs By Dr. Brent Conrad Clinical Psychologist for TechAddiction What is computer game addiction? Computer game addiction generally refers to an excessive, unhealthy amount of playing computer games. Rather than engaging in the real world, an addicted user devotes the majority of his or her time to gaming. The addicted gamer often isolates him/herself from others, ignores more important responsibilities, and is often obsessed with obtaining higher status / rankings / achievements in his/her favorite computer game. Is computer game addiction a diagnosable disorder? According to the DSM-IV (the current manual for classifying emotional, psychological, and mental disorders), no. Although there have been calls from some mental health professionals (and parents) to recognize computer game addiction as a "real" disorder, it has not been granted official diagnostic status. As more research on the effects of excessive gaming is conducted, many believe that it is only a matter of time before computer game addiction is classified as a compulsive behavior similar to gambling addiction.   What are the symptoms of computer game addiction? Because there is no official diagnosis of computer game addiction, there is obviously no universally agreed upon list of symptoms. Psychologists and other mental health professionals initially adapted the diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction and used this as a rough assessment tool...

Fighting Crime

...After reading the section on gun control my view on the subject slightly changed. I went from not knowing much about control, thus not really being concerned if it existed or not. But now that I know a few facts, I can I agree partially with both sides of the issue. I think that people should have the right to carry concealed guns but that there should also be a few more regulations. These rules and regulations should include instituting one-gun-purchase- per-month laws, and also requiring registration of all handguns. Another point in this section that grabbed my attention was President Clinton’s assault-weapons ban. I feel that this law should still be in place, because it allows people to carry guns but of a less lethal nature. This is my opinion creates a happy medium. I disagree with investing money in head start programs. Although they are beneficial in preparing children for elementary school and teaching children to interact with others. I do not believe investing money and engaging children in head start programs will prevent them from committing crimes and displaying deviant behavior later in life. Thus the money invested to supposedly lower crime rates could be invested in other programs such as job corps. I believe programs such as job corps are quite a bit more beneficial to at risk youth. This is because Job Corps is not only a program that youth are involved in when they are a bit older but it also provides job training. In my opinion individuals who are employed...

Obamacare

...Obamacare Kayla Entingh American National Government Instructor Sloan December 4th, 2012 Being a democrat myself, the last four years have been a battleground between friends and family who don't agree with my side. I have stood my ground on what I believe and back my arguments with facts. One of the largest issues being scrutinized by our country right now is Obamacare. The goals for the way our healthcare system will be laid out are either loved by people or they absolutely hate it. There have been questionable issues about violating parts of our amendments and how or why people who can't afford healthcare actually deserve it. The biggest issue with the Obamacare Plan is whether it is or isn't Constitutional and what that means for the people of the United States. The Patient Protection and the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare is a United States federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Together with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, it represents the most significant regulatory overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965 (Wikipedia 2012). The main focus of Obamacare is to leave no person without health coverage. The majority of US Citizens struggle or can simply not afford health care thus not having proper treatment for illness for themselves or their children. The Obamacare policy is a reform of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that...

Why Do Schools Start Later

...convenient for parents that have children in elementary school. School starts too early for teens; it is natural for elementary children to start at 8 a.m. but not teenagers. Teenagers need more sleep than older adults and young children. Schools should start later because students be more alert and healthier as well as schools will save money. Schools starting later will help students be more alert. The lack of sleep most adolescents get can cause moodiness, lack of attention, memory problems, behavior issues, and the ability to function (kqed). People between 14-24 years old are the most likely to be sleep deprived and it is due to not getting enough sleep during the week (iflscience). Benefits of sleeping include increased memory and learning, better attention span. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), almost 70% of high-school students report sleeping for seven hours or less on a regular basis (time). This proves that the majority of students are sleep...

Teenage Pregnancy in the U.S.

...Teenage Pregnancy in the U.S. Brandon Lisak Principals of Sociology 4/31/2014 “Each year in the U.S. almost one million teenagers become pregnant at enormous costs to themselves, their children, and society”. (Pregnant Teen Help, Teen Pregnancy Statistics) Some would argue that teen pregnancy is all glorified. Other individuals would protest that it is too influential. Teen pregnancy is a rising social problem in the United States and among other countries. Teen pregnancy is now being publicized as multimedia corporations, with shows such as “16 & Pregnant”, “Teen Mom”, “Maury”, “Secret Life of the American Teenager”, and “Juno”. All of which concentrate on teen pregnancy. These shows or movies could be informational for young people. However, the shows display an altered reality that teen pregnancy is easy, laughs and joy. Despite what the shows might portray teen pregnancy is an uprising national and global epidemic. In the past teen pregnancy has been an underline issue that is vastly taking center stage. Media, education, and economy are all components to this phenomenon, nevertheless, how are they all connected? All of which will all be addressed in the contents of this paper. Which leaves the burning question, is teen pregnancy accepted into our society as a norm, or is it still a deviant act? True Love Waits

...Dadol Pre-Marital Sex The seminar we had last March 15 is a must see to all teenagers. Nowadays most teens indulge in pre-marital sex. Some do it out of curiosity, some urge by sex drive at an early age and some triggered by peer pressure. It’s so sad to know that as a catholic country in which we value the sacredness of marriage, a growing number of teens are getting pregnant every year. It’s very alarming because the youth is the hope of our fatherland! Government says sex education is the answer but is it really is? I believe that being well educated about sex is not an answer. But thus chastity education is! Teaching sex education doesn’t guarantee that these number of teens will be lessen for it will only lead teens to be more curious about sex which eventually push them to doing it. Condoms, pills and other contraceptives don’t guarantee either. Worst, it can give you diseases. However if chastity education is being taught in school and most specially at home, teens will learn how to value what they have and their abstinence will be strengthen. Waiting for that right time is really worth the wait! For in that right time you’ll find yourself be with the person you truly deserve. If your love one insists in doing it, say “NO”! If he truly loves you, he’ll wait. The seminar really opened my eyes on the pros and cons of pre-marital sex and the consequences you’ll face in indulging it especially at an early age. Always remember that darkness can...

Abortion

...research any political issue; on the other hand because of personal experiences, abortion is what struck out to me the most. At 17 I had an abortion and not only me, but three of my other friends as well. All throughout my senior year in high school, there were more classmates either having babies or abortions. It became an epidemic in my neighborhood. For my final essay in my Advanced Composition class, I analyzed abortion’s pros and cons, comparing the pro-life and pro-choice aspects, and the circumstances using inductive and deductive reasoning. I dissected the basics of the research but I didn’t realize the bigger picture I was a part of. In 2006, 126 black teens out of 1000 were pregnant and 44 out of 1000 had abortions. The main reasons why most teens have abortions are concerns about how the baby would change their lives, not being able to afford a baby, and feeling insufficiently mature to raise a child (Guttmacher Institute, 2010). Indeed, that was how I felt. I didn’t want the embarrassment of walking down the hallways of school being the talk of the year, chained to the welfare office, trained from both sides of my divorced parents, having to worry about studying for finals while changing diapers, or having to put my long distance baby’s daddy on child support. My father insisted that I have an abortion as soon as I told him the news and so he sponsored the deal. However, my mother was very upset because she believed the baby deserved the opportunity for the...

The money could help save programs, the school system, and universities in the state that have either been cut completely or financially. Lastly, arrest for marijuana will slightly decrease and the police can focus on more important things such as getting heroin, crack, and other drugs off the street. These are some of the possible pros to the decision. Children under the age of five will be exposed to the drug. Children will probably associate smoking marijuana as being cool, because of seeing it done around you. Even though the drug is controlled, people are creative in getting something they want. Teens will get their parents, older friends, and even strangers to buy the marijuana for them. Adults will either come in buy or if they don’t have the money they can rob the store. Also, if the marijuana is too expensive in the store, people will go back to growing their own supply and maybe even selling it. These are some of the possible cons to the decision. Mandatory National Service

...Compulsory National Service Compulsory national service has been a major debate topic for the past few years now. This means mandatory service would be required for all Americans graduating from high school today. There are pros and cons on both sides of the argument that hold weight and make valid points, but after doing the research and viewing both sides I have to agree that the pros outweigh the cons. Compulsory service will get our country back on its feet, and can bring unity to this wonderful country we call home, for that reason we need to act now and require a two year stint of national service. To begin, there are many Americans who are against compulsory national service they believe that it would impact teens from moving on to college...

...The Pros and Cons of Underage Alcohol Consumption (Canada) Whitney Aldrich, Armando Cruz, Bryan Munoz, Lucy Cortez, Mitchell Guidry Team A BCOM/275 May 29, 2012 Scott Earle The Pros and Cons of Underage Alcohol Consumption (Canada) Canada is a country that is pro for under 21 years old to consume alcohol. They believe that if you have young adults start using alcohol at a younger age they learn how to monitor and control their drinking. Some of the reasons Canadians believe its okay are; they are less likely to see alcohol as a badge of adulthood and rebellion. Allows them to learn their limits in a safe space may also help ward off risky experiments in more dangerous settings later. By allowing 19 year olds do it makes alcohol illegal for high school students but allows virtually all college kids to legally drink. This means that at least some of their drinking is supervised and that there is no incentive to binge to avoid being caught possessing alcohol. The lower legal drinking age means that more Canadian students drink than American students; however, those who imbibe display more moderation than their U.S. counterparts (Larry Hemelin, 200). Even thou Canadians believe that the age of 19 is the right legal age for youngster to start drinking, many activists are still pushing new laws to raise the age limit for drinking alcohol. There are programs that are pushing to stop underage drinking. Awareness is being publicized in many ways. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers...
