This film talks about the struggles of a Palestinian-American woman (Soraya) in Middle East, primarily in Palestine and Israel. After her grandfather died, she came to collect the savings which he left behind. She came to Ramallah, Palestine; she was questioned in a very discrete and unusual manner, probably because of her name or her Arabic descent, but certainly because they thought that she was a Muslim. The way they asked all those questions, it seemed like they wanted to know if she was a Muslim. They still searched her inch by inch just on the hunch that she is a Muslim. This happened not just there, but also when she was trying to get to Jaffa—Israel—where her grandfather owned a house. But being born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she stood bold and aggressive upon the encounter of questions and checking based on racism of religion (Islam), ethnicity (Arab) and nationality (Palestine).
Secondly, the movie was trying to portray the hardships lived by the locals in Palestine, mainly Emad. He is an honest, hard-working young man who’s trying to build a better future for him. He got a scholarship for a college in Canada, but can’t get a visa. The continuous humiliation and being the victim of discrimination forced to feel that he’s living in a cage in his own country. They don’t even have to freedom to drive at night without encountering Israeli army. Like that time when Emad was driving with Soraya in Ramallah, for no reason they were forced by the Israeli army to move out of the car. And then Emad got humiliated in front of Soraya, making him completely naked. And all he could say to her was, “its normal” that this is no big deal and things like this happen every day. And when he found out that she wants to live here, He tried to make her realize that this is what you really came for, this continuous torture and humiliation.

...business I have been considering is a sole proprietorship and will sale pacific sea salt. Sea salt is naturally extracted from the ocean in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. Many years ago, when I was a kid I went to Mexico regularly to surf the coast off Baja California. There was plenty of fish to catch and there is a way of cooking a dish called, “Ceviche” (.ehow.com… make-ceviche.html) unfortunately one time when we were many miles south of the boarder and no store in just as many miles we had no salt. We built a fire, collected sea water, and filtered it through tee shirts, then boiled it until we had a paste; then we let it dry for about 3 hours and we had our salt. That experience has stuck with me over the years and I have made it for myself, friends, and family. I have even developed a way of flavoring the salt in crystal form which holds the flavor for a long time. It tastes great, and works with whatever you put it on. Effectiveness of Household Objects as Pimple Remover

...combination of the sea salt method (where salt is used to dry up the pimple) with honey as a natural antiseptic. This experiment includes common household ingredients and objects such as salt, water, ice, honey, cotton balls and a small cup. Salt is used to dry up the upper part of the pimple, thus removing the redness. Honey, as I’ve stated in the previous paragraph, is a natural antiseptic and soothes and heals the skin. Honey is also a natural moisturizer. It is also anti-bacterial, which means it helps with wound healing and it even keeps the skin hydrated. And ice because it diminishes the pores thus, constricting the blood vessels beneath the skin of the pimple. (Ice is gently rubbed around the acne-infected area.) Problem Are common household objects such as salt and honey effective pimple removers? Hypothesis Salt and Honey will remove the pimple. Glasswort

...Glasswort Salicornia europaea Classification Glasswort, also known as Norfolk Samphire belongs to the family Amaranthaceae. They are a group of very similar and hard to distinguish species. All Salicornia of Eurasia are associated with this group. A distinctive features of this plant is its stout, fleshy appearance. They are pioneers of often flooded mudflats of sea coasts. Many synonymes for S. europaea exist, for example S. herbacea, S. prostrata. The classification is not completely clarified to date. The succulence and the strongly reduced morphology are posing difficulties to a satisfactory taxonomy of the whole genus of Salicornia. Description Salicornia are annual, strange looking, halophyte herbs of 5-45cm growth height. The main stem and branches are succulent and jointed into swollen segments. Each segment has on its upper margins a pair of opposite triangular lobes that represent the leaves. Flowers are borne on the upper stems and are opposite groups of 3 (triads), with the central flower being the larger one, in the axils of the lobes representing the leaves. Each flower consists of a small fleshy disc or segment with a central pore, from which emerges a single tiny anther of 0.2-0.5mm length (often not projecting) in August or September; the bifid stigma usually remains hidden. The fruits are small nutlets, released as the stems break up in winter. Pollination The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated...

Seawaters

...SCI/209 July 6, 2015 Dr. Linda Martin  Seawater Paper When you drink that glass of cold drinking water, and you enjoy it. Do you think to yourself where did this begin. It comes from seawater. Seawater has been strongly transformed to pure drinking water for personal drinking. Seawater properties are primarily salt. The eradication of the physical and chemical properties shift seawater into a current recyclable unit. Reverse osmosis and multi flash distillation are two approaches that a few countries are using to turn seawater into drinking water, but there are some risks and assets to this procedure that individuals should examine. Physical and Chemical Properties of Seawater Seawater has water and various salts. Atoms and molecules are present in the physical and chemical properties. Potassium, magnesium, sulfate, calcium and bicarbonate are seen in seawater alone. This is the salinity of seawater alone. Sodium Chloride is about 86% of the chemical compound. Magnesium sulfate is about 11%, 3% is related with the combination of potassium bromide and calcium bicarbonate. The moderate combination of all salts dissolved in seawater fluctuates somewhat. (Fischetti, 2007) The Mediterranean Sea has about 40,000 milligrams of salt per liter whereas the Pacific Ocean has about 33,000 milligrams of salt per liter. Conversion of Seawater to Drinking Water Seawater is converted into drinking water in two parts; Reverse Osmosis and Multistage flash distillation....

Essay On The Dead Sea

...I smell the salt when the wind blows. I feel the sand between my toes. There is nothing edible for miles and the water will practically kill you. It is called the dead sea for a reason. Bordered by Israel, there is nothing but deserts surrounding it. Dead Sea is at 31.5510 degrees north and 35.4732 degrees east. This extreme environment affects the plants and animals, water quality, and the landscaping around the dead sea. Plants and animals cannot live in the dead sea or around the dead sea because The Dead Sea is so salty because when the Water in the Dead Sea evaporator at leaves behind all that dissolved minerals. When the dissolved minerals absorb into the fresh rainwater or into the water that is already there it gets saltier so every day it is getting saltier. You can swim in the sea, but do not get any in your mouth because it is saltier than the ocean. Yuck! "dead because its high salinity prevents macroscopic aquatic organisms, such as fish and...

Case-in-Point Analysis

...Analysis The Salton Sea, once known as the accidental sea, became a popular tourist attraction which people would travel to for vacations (Ransriggs, 2011). People bought homes, built schools, restaurants, and yacht clubs; it was considered to be a miracle in the desert. Over the years the water at the Salton Sea became saltier than the ocean. Botulism poisoning killed millions of fish, and the heat, which reach the temperature of 120 degrees, made the air unbearable to breathe. A consequence was the sea began to flood (Ransriggs, 2011). The water at the Salton Sea was fed only by agricultural run-off, which increased the salt levels of the Salton Sea to levels that the fish could not survive. The death of 200 million fish had a large effect on the rest of the ecosystem, causing the death of the bird populations who rely on fish for food, increasing severe decaying of the dead fish, and creating a increased number of flies and other pathogens in their rotting carcasses (Ransriggs, 2011). The loss and harm to the populations of wild species at the Salton Sea is critical importance of migrating birds. The sea supports over 90% of the North American population species such as eared grebes, 30,000 American white pelicans, 2,000 brown pelicans, 25,000 snow and Ross’ geese, and 120,000 shore birds, which consist of 44 species (Ransriggs, 2011). Over four million tons of salt is added to the Salton Sea every year. The Salton Sea authority has begun to restore the sea by controlling the...

Air Pressure

...and Function Centrifugal Pump: PK130 filter pump, delivers the feed water at a pressure of up to 4 bar through the cartridge filter and from there to the high pressure pump PP160. This centrifugal pump has its own integral electric motor. High-Pressure Pump: PP160 is a positive displacement pump. (plunger pump) this pump delivers feed to the PT modules at a pressure of up to 65 bar. (note: pressure is controlled by VS160). The pump is powered through a belt drive from a three-phase motor. Minimum feed pressure to this pump is 0.5 bars. Pulsation Damper: The pulsation damper fitted on the high-pressure pump discharge converts the pressure fluctuations, common for a plunger pump, into a steady pressure. It consists of a pressure vessel, internally separated by an diaphragm into two sections. The outermost section is filled with nitrogen at a pressure of 30 bar. The pulsation’s from the 3 plungers of the HP pump are absorbed by the gas pressurized membrane. It is normal to observe pulsation’s in the pointer of PI160 when pointer is rising through 25 to 32 bar, (resistance against gas pressure). Sand filter: The sand filter retains all sediment particles over 50 (m in size. As the density of these particles increases, the pressure drop across the inlet and outlet increases. To reduce this pressure drop and remove these particles, the sand filter is backwashed by air and feed water (generally when 2 to 2.5 bars are reached). Cartridge Filter: Within cartridge filter FC140...

Does Inventorized Salt Make An Egg Slide

...Conclusion In my experiment learned that iodized salt makes an egg float the highest because it floated 7 cm. The ice-melting salt makes an egg float the second highest because it floated 6.5 cm. Sea salt floated the egg the second least because it floated the egg 6.25 cm.The epsom salt floated the egg the least because it floated the egg 6 cm. I learned that the more saturated the salt, the higher it will float the egg. I also learned that the more salt in the salt solution, the higher the egg will float. 10b. What was the relationship between the independent and dependent variables? In my experiment, the relationship between the independant and dependant variable was the more saturated the type of salt was, the more the egg floated off the bottom of the glass. Epsom salt is the least saturated because it made the egg float the least. Epsom salt is the second least saturated because it made the egg float the second least. Sea salt is the second most saturated because it made the egg float the second most. Iodized salt is the most saturated salt because it made the egg float the highest. 10c. The Dead Sea

...Dead Sea Vacation! One of my favorite things! I’m pretty sure that most of you, if not all of you, love vacation too! Yet, every one has different ideas of what they like vacation to be. • Some people like to go away to a place with a cold climate and a lot of snow. They like to ski, snowboard, and relax in a cabin sitting by the fireplace. • Others prefer going to a place with a warm climate where they can just lazy around, sit outdoors, swim, and bask in the sun. Personally, I like the warm climate much more. One such place that I’ve been to and is a vacation spot for people all around the world is the Dead Sea. Although we know that there’s a history behind the Dead Sea, that is not what makes it such a hot vacation spot. What draws people from all over are, the benefits the Dead Sea has to offer. Today I’m going to share with you a couple of these benefits. The Dead Sea is often referred to as the Living Dead Sea. (The Living Dead Sea you might ask?) Isn’t that an oxymoron? It’s called the Living Dead Sea due to the ways it can treat and sometimes even cure certain diseases. It can definitely help improve the quality of ones life. Around the world many health spas have benefits relating to climate, water, and air. The Dead Sea is the only place that combines them all. The air, water, and temperature of the Dead Sea causes it to have a very therapeutic effect on its visitors. Firstly, the region has an enriched oxygen atmosphere. It...

Technology Innovation: Who Are Far More Intelligent

...that occurs where rivers meet the sea could power our homes and much more. It is perhaps one of the most under-exploited sources of green energy. When salt water and fresh water mix in estuaries, a chemical process occurs that can be harnessed for electricity generation. According to one estimate, this “blue energy” is so plentiful that it could meet all our needs – if we can find an effective way to tap it. Could ‘blue’ be the new green? Blue energy was first proposed in 1954 by a British engineer named R E Pattle. It is sometimes called “osmotic power”, because it exploits the phenomenon of osmosis. To understand how this works, picture two solutions of water with different concentrations of a dissolved substance like salt. If these two solutions are separated by a thin “semi-permeable” membrane that lets water through but not salt ions, then water will naturally pass from the less- to the more-salty side. The flow of water across the membrane builds up pressure on one side that can be used to drive turbines and generate power. It wasn’t possible to exploit Pattle’s idea for power generation until the 1970s. That’s when artificial materials for making semi-permeable membranes became commercially available. An Israeli scientist named Sidney Loeb suggested that they could be used in what he called “osmotic power plants”; Loeb hoped they might harness the energy released as the Jordan River mixed with the salty Dead Sea. Such power plants actually...
