Introduction
The author of this article is Jana Kasperkevic, she is the fall US Business intern for the Guardian US. The title of this article is “The ‘silent epidemic’: Workplace Bullying is on the rise, research shows”. This article was published on theguardian.com on the 26th June of 2014 and the author’s purpose is to inform the community on how serious is workplace bullying nowadays and wanted to attract people’s concern on this matter. The author’s intended audience will be all the workers or people who are going to engage in work soon because they are the most related audiences to this issue.

Throughout the article, we can see that the author has chosen to use a lot of surveys, reports and researches to support her main idea which is “Workplace Bullying is on the rise.” While reading through the article, we might come across sentences such as “Workplace bullying come in different shapes and sizes”, “Companies that permit their bullies to thrive within the culture” or “Bullying might mean different things to different people but it’s behavior that is severe and pervasive.” have show us that the author was using a very serious tone during the writing. At the same time, we can also sense the author feeling injustice and unfair towards the victims of workplace bullying. Sentence such as “the person who most likely to remain in his or her job was the bully” or while mentioning that proposed laws against workplace bullying have never been enacted yet have practically show us that the odds are never in the victims’ favor and it is unfair and injustice how these bullies have never been brought to justice. The author was also being a little bit sarcastic while saying that bullies usually possessed high levels of social ability and expertise in sucking up to others in order to show the reader how cunning the bullies …show more content…
For example, the author mentioned in the article that “Workplace bullies come in different shapes and sizes”, it can extend from a boss to a client. A surveys made by CareerBuilder was also provided to support this statement. The author is basically trying to given a message to the readers that workplace bullying is unpredictable, it can happen to anyone and anybody can be responsible for it. At the end of the article, the author also writes down her own opinion that “Clearly, workplace bullying is no small problem and it’s not going away any time soon”. This has greatly concluded the author’s main idea of the article which is workplace bullying is a very serious issue and we should never overlook this

...An old Chinese proverb once said, “He that takes medicine and neglects the diet himself wastes the skill of the physician.” Many individuals within our society struggle with this silent and crippling disease and a diagnosis can sometimes feel like a death sentence to some. According to Trapp (2012, para. 1), “In the United States, diabetes affects 26 million people of all ages, about one-fourth of whom are not yet diagnosed.” Diabetes is a disease that is caused by insulin resistance in the body and consequently affecting the levels of an individual’s hemoglobin A1C, which is the main indicator of blood glucose control. Research have shown that diabetes kills more people than AIDS and breast cancer combined and is the main cause of many diet related illnesses such as blindness, kidney failure, cancer and cardiovascular disease. However, there is a simple solution to these issues- a plant based diet consumption. Not only is it more effective than mainstream diabetic drugs but it can reverse diabetes all together. The participants completed a standard socio-demographic questionnaire, indicating sexual behaviour, cultural beliefs and practices, attitude to HCT, and knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 alpha level were used to analyze the data. The study indicates that most participants have poor knowledge of HCT centres in their communities, but had a fairly high knowledge level of HIV. The findings of this study include that there is a significant difference in the disposition to HCT between respondents who have experienced sexual intercourse and those who have not (t = 3.866, df = 285: p<0.05) and between male and female respondents (t = 4.775, df = 285; p< 0.05). The study also shows that knowledge of HIV/AIDS was the strongest predictor of attitude of young people towards HCT ( = 0.547; t = 3.458 p<0.05), closely followed by cultural practices ( = 0.324; t = 2.740 p<0.05)...

This problem affects many children living within the United States, but children from low-income families are more at risk of becoming obese. The reason, not only stems from their limited knowledge of healthy lifestyles but the cost and availability of nutritious foods as well. Childhood obesity has become a topic that garners much concern from parents, pediatricians, and politicians alike. During the 1970’s only 15% of children were obese, since then the percentage has been increased up to 30% (Donahue, Grisso, Orleans, and Paxson, 3). Despite the high overall levels of childhood obesity, impoverish children from ethnic minority groups present higher numbers. For example, 31% of Latino children, 23% of Black children, by contrast only 15% of both White and Asian children are considered obese (Grier and Kumanyika, 187).
