 Direct: benefits: First, direct plan always goes straight to the main point form writers letting readers understand the most important idea of the message at the beginning. Second, direct plan may save readers time by telling the key point first. drawbacks: First, direct plan may let the reader miss the detail of the situation because it’s written by simple words or sentences just focus on the main point but left the detail. Second, direct plan may seem rude and abrupt by high-context communicators because people with high=context Indirect: 
 benefits: First, indirect plan can save face in case the requests from writers are denied or Ignored by readers. Second, let the reader understand the whole situation of the message clearer by the context. drawbacks: First, indirect plan is easy to make readers or listener with result –orient cultures feel confused about where is the main idea. Second, indirect plan usually wastes reader’s time to read not important sentences before the main idea of the message. 6. When it comes to persuasive messages and argumentation, please list and describe the three broad types of persuasive logic (This is very similar to the discussion in chapter 2 on “How Do People Reason (p. 109-111). Do you remember the basic traits of each group?): W: Western persuasive logic always focus on truth. Debaters should discuss about something deeply to debate which one is true. Because in western persuasive logic, there is only one thing could be true, the other one must be false. E: Comparing with Western persuasive logic, East Asian tend to focus on the reasoning more than the true or false. East Asian persuasive logic consider the relationship between two opposite object or concept. The key point of this logic is finding the balance or relationshiip in oppositions. A: For Arabic persuasive logic, presentation is important and it comes with three elements which is choosing of language and word, ability of raising emotion, an speak authoritatively. First, parallel syllables and consonants produce repeated vowel sounds, repeated consonant sounds, and rhymes. They make the language persuade itself. Second, raise the emotion during presentation. More importantly, create emotion in the listeners or readers. Third, speak authoritative by repeating the same idea.

7. How does a visiting professor from Canada (Ron Kelly) communicate his disapproval/frustration with his class size and number of classes he is assigned to teach at his host institution in Sichuan, China? Is he exhibiting high or low CQ? How do you know? If the same thing happened at home in Canada, how would he have reacted / communicated his feelings? 
 8. Does saying “yes” always mean “I agree; I will carry out your request”? What else might it mean? How else is it used, and where, according to V&B Chapter 5? What sorts of problems might this cause? Please discuss. 
 The answer is no. In some high-context culture like Japanese, people say “yes” all the time but most of time, they don’t really mean “I agree; I will carry out your request”. According to V&B Chapter 5, ”yes” might means “yes, I’m listening,” or “yes, I see(but don’t agree)” or ”yes, you have a good point” in Japan. In some situation, this misunderstanding between cultures may leads to big problem. In some high-context cultures, people sometimes say yes but they truly mean no by their expressions or body languages.
