...time off, reducing office hours, and closing civil courtrooms) and very aggressive negotiations with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) resulted in an additional $7.5 million that was used to salvage one hundred thirty-three (133) careers. September 30, 2011 was a devastating day to these sixty-seven (67) employees, and this paper will focus particularly on the effects of this re-organization on the emotions and reactions of the Court Reporters who were directly and indirectly affected. The SFSC website defines Court Reporters as “guardians of the record”. It is emphasized that not only are they Court employees, but they are also purveyors of transcripts for all interested parties. Their main job duties are providing legislated transcripts of criminal proceedings, and providing appellate transcripts to the California Court of Appeals and to SFSC. In early February 2013, I distributed about twenty (20) surveys [see attached] to Court Reporters, mostly the ones still employed by SFSC and also a few whom were laid-off from their jobs. I received a total of thirteen (13) responses back, and from those stem the key issues of this paper. II. SCARF MODEL...

...our lifestyle have evolved for many reasons, the most dominant being due to Geographical barriers, and the area in which we live in. Geographical barriers have allowed various dialects to develop within the same language, creating a drastic contrast between the variations. Spontaneous texts in where the dialect is put into effect will be analyzed to see the differences between them and evaluating why there is a difference in dialect. Transcript ‘09’ is a casual conversation between three young Asian women. The exchange has been set in London and they are unaware of the recording. The speakers language is interactional and somewhat phatic, therefore there is no particular direction in the conversation, as there is no purpose as the teenagers just interacting. Transcript ‘12’ however, is an interview between a Guyana female and an English interviewer. This dialogue takes place in Guyana, whilst the interviewer interviews Patti (the Guyana female). The language is transactional and has a set purpose; to receive information. Transcript ‘09’ is introduced with an attempt at topic management by speaker A, who opens the conversation with the definite statement of ‘Zainab is Syed’s // mum’. The way the speaker opens this conversation highlights the uncertainty she feels when initiating the conversation, showing us through the audio, that she does not know how to start the conversation. However, as the conversation progresses, all three speakers are able to equally put their...

...Text 'A' is a transcript of a private spontaneous speech between two friends, Rebecca and Sonia. They are talking about their attitudes towards food, cooking and cookery programmes. Sonia is positive about the three topics whereas Rebecca firmly hates cooking. Text 'B' is an extract from an online article based on an interview with Raymond Blanc. The audience is the general public as it is accessible online, but is probably mostly read by adults with an interest in cooking. Contrasting text 'A', Blanc's interview shows a hugely positive attitude to both food and cooking. The purpose of the article is to inform the reader about Raymond Blanc. In text 'A' Sonia and Rebecca's vocabulary and speech features are influenced by the context of their conversation, a private, spontaneous and friendly situation. The conversational topic starts out as cookery programmes, as initiated by Sonia. The topic is only discussed briefly, before the conversation moves onto the topic of cooking. Cooking is not a topic Rebecca is comfortable with and she is bold with her attitudes towards it. "I hate cooking", the stress on the word "hate" shows how strongly she feels about this topic. Sonia's attitude is different from Rebecca's and this is shown when, before Rebecca has finished her sentence, Sonia overlaps with "What" showing that she is surprised enough to interrupt her friend. After Sonia expresses her shock Rebecca takes conversational dominance to explain herself, but she seems to be more defensive...

...Video 1 – Why V2 is better than the other electronic cigarette V2 is the most advanced electronic cigarette in the market today. Don’t be fooled by the other electronic cigarette brands that employ outdated or sub-standard technologies. V2 ‘s breakthrough two-piece design was developed to correct the problems commonly experienced with the early 3-piece each cigarette models. Three piece electronic cigarettes are unsanitary and messy. Some models not only re-use the atomizer but also the nicotine cap which is annually refilled with vaccine liquid. This makes it nearly impossible to avoid getting sticky nicotine liquid on your fingers and your mouth. This liquid can stain your clothes and is irritating to your skin. Because the nicotine cap is fully exposed, the nicotine liquid inside these caps dries out quickly leading to inconsistent vapor thicknesses and a dried burnt flavor. These cheap plastic caps only accommodate a small amount of vapor liquid and must be replaced often which leads to increased costs for you. The reusable atomizer in these models must be cleaned regularly to maintain optimal performance and avoid closure. When replacing the nicotine cap or cleaning the atomizer it is easy to disturb the sensitive heating element which can cause the device to stop working altogether and even lead to fire risks. 3-piece electronic cigarettes sacrifice freshness, convenience, economy and safety. V2’s easy 2-piece design addresses all of these problems. The V2 electronic cigarette...

...All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed Verbatim for thematic analysis. Three members of the research (HM, CW and CS) team independently read and re-read each transcript in order to achieve as broad an understanding of the content as possible. A thematic analysis was conducted using open coding and then axial coding and, in keeping with Grounded Theory, no pre-specified hypotheses were established. As the concepts arose, the three researchers, in the margins of each transcript, independently coded them. Among the various key concepts uncovered in the transcripts were: “time,” “conflict,” “concern,” “prioritization,” “defer,” “evidence-based,” “impacts,” “benefits,” “prevention visit,” Non-prevention visit,” “time consuming,” “ easy...

...Environmental and Evolutionary Psychology Transcript PSYCH/635 February 1, 2016 Dr. John Barker Environmental and Evolutionary Psychology Transcript Introduction The environmental and evolutionary psychology field is the study of how a person’s environment can affect their psychological process. The environmental field helps identify if there is a connection involving the environment of a person and what impact it can have on a person’s life. The evolutionary psychology part of the field does research on a person’s memory, perspectives, and language through the theory of adaptation. Evolutionary theory will focus on the properties of an organism and how the organism functions and it will include information on how the brain functions. Some people will react to certain situations in one manner and someone else in another. It depends on the person and the situation that they are faced with as well as the environment that they were raised in. People will tend to adapt in their environment because of necessity to survive and to become comfortable within their environment. Theorists that study evolution may view a person’s psychological traits to be progressed adaptations. The field of environmental and evolutionary psychology can help a person in understanding how external factors may affect their lives. Some people do not see the outdoors as being therapeutic, but there are a lot of factors of being in nature that can help a person. Spending time outdoors and with animals can...

...Throughout reading the transcripts, there are many different aspects each one represents. The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) transcript shows that individuals come to be evaluated about their behaviors and mood disorders. This therapy process is very effective to individuals with depression because it helps them use a model when they feel upset or mad. Also, when reading through the transcript, it had an more understanding and easier approach to the client than the other transcripts. CBT was the style I gravitated towards the most based on how comfortable the therapist made the atmosphere feel. The Narrative Therapy helps individuals identify their values, which helps them face extreme problems. While reading this transcript, the lady...

...Transcript of Copy of Case number three. Case 3: Big Bend Medical Center What are the advantages and disadvantages of the new methodology? Advantages Makes cost allocation more fair Recognizes it’s true quality Could give a break because they are using the Same equipment and staff Dialysis Center is already using the same equipment and personnel Is there a better way? In order to offset the large facility costs; the Dialysis center should be able to claim revenues on direct utilization of pharmaceutical supplies; increasing their bottom line and potentially allowing them to remain financially stable through the facility transition. Is it “fair” for the Dialysis Center to suffer in profitability, and hence for the department head to possibly lose his bonus, just because the Outpatient Clinic needs additional space? Incentives Performance improvements Performance measures Disadvantages Costs more per square foot for the dialysis center For the Dialysis Center to bear the true costs, they forfeit the chance of generating true net profit. There will be more incentive to focus on outpatient services than Dialysis patients Other departments will find it less appealing to relocate if they know their profitability or contributions to the Hospital will decline severely when incurring true facility costs. How is pharmacy revenue handled? Pharmacy supplies used for dialysis cost the pharmacy $400,000 They profit $400,000 on drugs used Dialysis center...

...I created my transcript while in my dorm room, which is where I do the majority of my work. I began the recording of my transcript around midday on Sunday, February 5th. In that time, I recorded 30 minutes of writing, since I wished to have access to the largest transcript available. The assignment I chose to focus on was the first journal entry for EDU 406, partially because I had yet to be assigned any writing assignments. However, I also selected my first journal entry because I believed analyzing how I function as a writer through a transcript focused on being a writer tutor would create interesting dialogue. In my transcript I hoped to discover new information about me and my writing process, perhaps some information would have previously escaped the view of my consciousness. While I was creating the transcript I found that this assignment held certain constraints not present in other writing projects. For example, the...
