Session 3 - Wal-Mart

...Portland State University EAS 361 Laboratory Lab Exercise 0 5 October 2004 Gerald Recktenwald Lab Partners: Jane Doe Jill Jones Lab Performed 29 September 2004 Joe Smith 1 Introduction A capillary tube viscometer was used to measuring the viscosity of water as a function of temperature. The purpose of the lab is to gain familiarity with this method of viscosity measurement, and to understand the data reduction process necessary to convert measurements to viscosity values. 2 Apparatus Figure 1 is a schematic of the viscometer used in the test. Water from the upper chamber flows through the capillary tube and is collected in the graduated cylinder. The upper chamber is surrounded with a thermally regulated water bath that is used to control the temperature of the water during the viscosity measurements. A glass thermometer suspended in the upper chamber is used to record the temperature of the sample fluid. A plastic cooking spoon is used to stir the sample fluid so that its temperature is uniform and so that the system more quickly reached steady state after a change in the thermostat stetting. The flow through the capillary tube is turned on or off with a small ball valve near the outlet of the capillary tube. [pic] Figure 1 Capillary viscometer used in the measurements. Cashless Economy

...Cash, Paper-based and Electronic Payments: A Theoretical Approach Francisco Calladoy Jana Hromcováz and Natalia Utrero , Abstract In this paper we provide a general equilibrium model that helps explaining payment choice at the retail level: cash, electronic and paper-based instruments. In particular, it provides theoretical foundations to reconcile previous empirical evidence on the matter. Payment pattern of a given country can be shaped by the payment infrastructure, the cost of each payment instrument, the degree of technology development and the interest rate. We show that the introduction of a cheaper payment instrument, in this case electronic payments, may be welfare improving. The calibration exercise for Norway illustrates that the policy of correct pricing of checks promoted by the Norwegian authorities may imply 4% increase in the welfare of the country. The motion and general behaviour of a fluid is governed by the fundamental laws of classical mechanics and thermodynamics and plays an important role in such diverse fields as biology, meteorology, chemical engineering, and aerospace engineering. An introductory text on fluid mechanics, such as , surveys the basic concepts of fluid dynamics and the various mathematical models used to describe fluid flow under different restrictive assumptions. The objectives of this experiment are to investigate the way in which the static pressure varies on the surface of an aerofoil in low speed flow, and to deduce the lift force acting on the aerofoil. An aerofoil with a symmetrical section is used for the experiment, which is conducted in a wind tunnel at a wind speed low enough for the flow to be treated as incompressible. From the measured distribution of surface pressure around the aerofoil at a small angle of incidence, the lift will be calculated by...

Measurements in Boundary Layer Flows

...Abstract: In this experiment, the velocity profile for a flat plate at zero pressure gradient of a boundary layer at two different stream wise points were acquired. The investigation was also based on and how changes in Reynolds number affect the velocity distribution within boundary layers. Parameters such as the Momentum Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. The experimental values calculated were compared to the theoretical Blasius for laminar flow and Power Law Solutions for turbulent flow to see how they varied. It was found out the higher the Reynolds number the greater the boundary layer thickness. As the boundary layer progressed the flow went from Laminar to Turbulent. Turbulent flow is more erratic and had a steeper velocity profile affect the shear stress. The momentum thickness and displacement thickness were greater for turbulent flow. Other ideas were examined in the discussions. ...Temperature control system for PEM Fuel cell Fuel cell research technology Group Babol University of Technology S.M.Rakhtala, T.Fadaiian R.Ghaderi, A.Ranjbar and M.Shakeri mh_rakhtala@stu.nit.ac.ir Abstract In This paper, design of the temperature control system of PEM fuel cell is developed with integrated control techniques by Atmega 128 micro-controller along with optimized performance of fuel cell system. The temperature control system will guarantee the correct performance of fuel cell around its optimal operation point. In order to reduce high frequency noises, an averaging filter has been applied in the micro controller software. Different parameters such as temperature and electrical loading are simulated by MATLAB/SIMULINK software and also implemented with experimental unit on single cell. The simulation results of dynamic model as well as the implementation results indicate that the proposed control scheme works very well. 1. Introduction A large number of researches have been conducted to manage the control system for different types of fuel cell. Alfredo et al. [1] developed a control system for portable PEM fuel cell. The control system will guarantee the correct performance of the stack around is optimal operation point this means that the air flow and the stack temperature are controlled to correct value. Shaw et al. [2] presented a system that provides continues PEMFC electrical terminal monitoring under realistic load profiles. The data collected in this will...
