...1. I think my graduate experience will differ from my undergraduate experience in that as a graduate student I will apply everything that I learned in undergraduate school focusing more on detailed analytical research, more reading, and writing which will help me to develop more social and people skills on the career path I have chosen. Most graduate programs are at least eighteen months and require you to take only one class per session. It also requires you to do either a thesis or non-thesis exit exam. However, as an undergraduate student the main focus was on the basic fundamentals of general knowledge. It required you to be in college for at least four years to obtain a degree and most semesters as a full-time student you took at least twelve hours. I know as a graduate student I will have to be more dedicated, committed, devoted, and have better time management skills, and have a schedule planned. As a graduate student I am more mature and have gain more wisdom than when I was in undergraduate school. 2. I would describe a graduate learning community where you will be able to sustain until the completion of the program because you will have your instructors, other students, your academic and financial advisors going with you to make sure that you stay on the right track to completing the task and goal that is set before you. Because you will be held at a higher level of integrity, accountability, responsibility of life and work you must have a scheduled planned...

...DQ: How do you think your graduate educational experience will be different from your undergraduate experience? How would you describe a graduate learning community? What would be the key components of a learning community and how might it be different from an undergraduate learning community? After thorough examination of my personal experience, I find that the difference in my graduate experience will be tremendous. For my Bachelors degree I attended a public secular university on a full athletic scholarship; The school was located in a very small town where I lived on and off campus while attending. Although my studies were important I also had to focus on performing gymnastics to fulfill the terms of my sports scholarship. My days consisted of studying, doing homework and practicing my sport, all of which made for an exhausting four years! Due to being home schooled prior to attending a university, I feel that the on campus exposure was essential to my education and personal growth. On campus I was subjected to a wide range of cultures, demographics, and various pressures, ranging from people asking me to pledge to sororities, invitation to the alien world of fraternity parties, and a broad range of athletics, some of which I had never heard of. Students at my Alma Mater consisted of nontraditional adult students that were older and had families, young co-ed's that partied constantly, and early scholars that were bound for educational and career glory. Although each student...

The main focus of this paper is to identify the differences of competency in the nursing practice of nurses holding an ADN vs. a BSN degree in the roles of assessing, critical thinking, communicating, providing care, teaching, and leading. Competency is the ability to do something efficiently and successfully. Grand Canyon University (GCU) offers the BSN program and is based on the curriculum set forth by the College of Nursing. This curriculum is outlined to prepare the student to respond creatively to the continuously changing health care systems throughout the world. “Within this program, professionalism, ethical decision making, accountability, effective communication, and critical thinking are emphasized and is achieved by the application of liberal arts, science, health and nursing theories” (GCU). It was observed that there were plenty of job vacancies in the market with an equally good number of graduates unemployed. The industry lamented of the manpower being incompetent and preferred recruiting expensive expatriates over fresh graduates, for the fear of losing clients due to some error caused by an unskilled worker. The problem identified here was the lack of proper job-oriented training. This report tries to study ways to circumvent this problem by taking a look at the Jawahar Knowledge Centers (JKC) model which has done commendable work to answer the call of unskilled graduates. It has shown institutes that have provided training to students have shown best on-campus recruitments. The report concludes by stressing the need of vocational training for all undergraduate students. TermPaperWriter.org © 2009 TermPaperWriter.org 3 Contents 1. ...overseeing the case of Fisher vs. Texas over the Affirmation Act and Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The University of Texas at Austin has been using race as a factor for the admissions process and Fisher has come to believe it diminished her chances of going to the school. The Affirmative Action Act is used to eliminate discrimination due to race and other variables. By using race as a variable to be admitted into their University, Texas has committed an unconstitutional policy because it breaks the Equal Protection Clause under the Fourteenth Amendment. The Equal Protection Clause states equal privileges for all United States citizens. The affirmative action act is the policy designed to help eliminate discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin in areas such as: businesses, education, and employment. Affirmative action was originally used to help the ongoing battle against racism towards African Americans. However, the term affirmative action was first used in President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Executive Order 10925 which required “federal contractors to “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that the employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin.” ” In 1967 Lyndon Johnson expanded his executive order 11246 (the equivalent of Kennedy’s executive order) to include affirmative action to benefit women (Sykes). Fisher vs. The University of Texas at...

In particular, we considered the support given by the two notations in the comprehension and interpretation of data models, comprehension of the change to perform to meet a change request, and detection of defects contained in a data model. The experiments involved university students with different levels of ability and experience. The results demonstrate that using UML class diagrams subjects achieved better comprehension levels. With regard to the support given by the two notations during maintenance activities the results demonstrate that the two notations give the same support, while in general UML class diagrams provide a better support with respect to ER diagrams during verification activities. Keywords Controlled experiments · Entity-relation diagrams · UML class diagrams · Design notations · Comprehension · Maintenance · Verification The work described in this paper is supported by the project METAMORPHOS (MEthods and Tools for migrAting software systeMs towards...

...Educational Preparation ADN vs BSN Maria Valdez Grand Canyon University Annette Saint Educational Preparation ADN vs BSN We, as students, in the United States of America have the remarkably wonderful opportunity to have many educational avenues to pursue. As a nursing student we have the ability to enter into different programs. You have the 3-year diploma program, which is administered in the hospital setting, the Associate Degree 2-year (ADN) which is acquired at a Community College or the four-year Baccalaureate Degree (BSN) which is awarded at a University. Regardless of what pathway is chosen by the graduate you still have to sit and take the same boards also known as the NCLEX-RN Licensing Examination. Baccalaureate nursing graduates have all the education of a diploma and an associate degree nurse but have a more in depth understanding of nursing research, nursing leadership, including management, humanities, and public health nursing (April 2009). This extra education gives a comprehensive understanding on many social, cultural, economic and political issues (2009). In 1965 there was a 3-yr study done by the American Nurses Association (ANA). It issued “A Position Paper on Education Preparation for Nurse Practioners and Assistants to Nurses.” The main point that was made is the “the education of all of those who are licensed to practice nursing should take place in institutions of higher education” (2009). Nursing Education is being associated with...

...“Candidates who hold master’s or Ph.D. degree in economics will have the best employment prospects and advancement opportunities” where as applicants holding a bachelor’s degree will have limited access to entry level positions. As the field of economics requires advanced education, I have conducted extensive research on applicable graduate and PhD programs. The degrees I am considering include a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master in Public Policy (MPP), Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance (MAIEF), or PhD. Program in Economics. My target schools are the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government, Bandeis University’s Lemberg Program, Duke University, and American University’s School of Public Affairs. The BLS referenced that salary ranges for economists varied greatly; the highest 10 percent of professionals earned more than $149,110 and the lowest 10 percent earn less than $44,050. I also reviewed the GS salary grades for the federal government. Based on my co-op experience and bachelor degree, I would expect to fall between a GS-5-7, starting at $26,264 to a maximum of $42, 290. However, after completing a graduate program I may be eligible for up to a GS-11 which would be up to $62,593 annually. ...SPECIALIZATION author OFER MALAMUD* The author examines an exogenous difference in the timing of academic Abstract specialization within the British system of higher education to test whether education yields information about one’s match quality in different fields of study. In distinguishing between systems requiring early and late specialization, he predicts the likelihood of an individual switching to an occupation unrelated to one’s field of study. If higher education serves mainly to provide specific skills, the model predicts more switching in a system requiring late specialization since the cost of switching is lower in terms of foregone skills. Using the Universities Statistical Record from 1972 to 1993 and the 1980 National Survey of Graduates and Diplomates, he finds that individuals who specialize early, as in the case of England, are more likely to switch to an unrelated occupation, implying that the benefits to increased match quality are sufficiently large to outweigh the greater loss in skills from specializing early. With regard to instruction, economists have made substantial progress in specifying and identifying the economic value of higher education, as it increases the value productivity of human agents as workers . . . the much neglected activity is that of discovering talent. It, too, can be approached by treating it as a process which provides students with opportunities to discover whether they have the particular capabilities that are required for the type and...
