...A Progressive Zuckerberg The world today is always changing, moving forward to the future. In the past 20 years many things have evolved from the common computer to the internet. In the essay, “American Value System,” Richard Rieke and Malcolm Sillars present six different value systems. Puritan-Pioneer-Peasant are righteousness, thrifty, hard workers, and dependable. Enlightenment Value System believes in freedom, nature, democracy, individualism and knowledge. Humanitarian, intuition, truth, sympathetic, love and friendship are values of Transcendental Value System. Characters from family, economic security, career, and health represent the Personal Success Value System. Traits that stand out in the Collectivist Value System are cooperation, joint action, social good and unity. Mark Zuckerberg created the famous social media website Facebook, while he was attending Harvard University. Always improving, changing, evolving towards a scientific future is the Progressive Value System that Mark Zuckerberg falls into. Others may think that he may fall in the Personal Success Value System but he doesn’t show the qualities of family, affection, and fair play. Zuckerberg is a Progressive rather than Personal Value System because he is always moving Facebook forward trying to make it more efficient and user friendly rather than care about his career, family and friends. Zuckerberg improved the online social media network and took online networking to new heights. Facebook wasn’t...

...Ethics and Values in a Global Setting Jason Bokesch CMGT530 March 22, 2010 John Zupan Ethics and Values in a Global Setting This week we were asked to write a paper examining how we reconcile our personal, professional, and cultural values, and our ethics in a global setting. Personal values are individual beliefs that determine individual decision making. These values are not only inherited from our parents, but we also modify them as we experience different events in life. Personal values affect our attitudes toward people, cultures, and society. Professional values are our attitudes toward work, our conduct at work, how we are rewarded, and expectations of our employers. These values ultimately determine who will work for, how hard we will work for them, what we will work for and how we interact with our coworkers. Each group, society, and culture has their own set of beliefs and norms about what is right and wrong, just, or unjust. Ethics are defined as a set of values that determines an individual’s conduct when it comes to making sound decisions regarding what is right and what is wrong. Now that we have looked at how each term is defined, we need to examine today’s global setting in three different terms: cultural differences, economic conditions, and family backgrounds. Now more than ever, there are greater cultural differences in all areas of life. It used to be that cultures were divided by things such as sections of a town, positions in a company, type of company...

...H&M had become the global leader in the ‘fast-fashion’ segment with a distinctive business approach that challenged most competitors. The business model, commonly referred to as ‘cheap-and-chic’, emphasised high fashion at prices significantly below those of competitors, with the fundamental principle being ‘Fashion and quality at the best price’. ‘In 2010 we stepped up our investments in order to strengthen the brand further and secure future expansion.’ “在2010年,我们加强了我们的投资是为了进一步加强品牌和安全的未来扩张。” However, Zara, the prime retail brand of Spain’s Inditex, opened 120 new outlets in China during that same year and later during the year Inditex overtook H&M to become the world’s biggest fashion retailer by market capitalisation. For the first time H&M was seriously challenged by Zara’s rapid expansion, not least because of its fast growth in emerging markets. The increased competition and the fact that margins had started to erode due to increased cotton prices and rising production costs in Asia put the H&M high-fashion/low-price formula and aggressive expansion under scrutiny. Investors had come to trust H&M’s model that relied on a set of unique resources and capabilities, but Zara’s success questioned the sustainability of the formula.

...Personal Values Development October 3, 2011 Abstract In this paper the subject analyzed is the personal development of values by examining personal values and ground rules. Focusing on the aspect of development this paper defines my values, the sources that help to shaped those values, and the criteria used to revise values in the decision-making process and the impact that values have on the performance in the workplace. Personal Value Development The personal core values, which are my driving force influence both action and reaction started developing during my early teenage years. The core value I have today has taken a lifetime of experiences to develop and subsequently does not change much. I have inherited some of my values. I have learned some values from my parents, teachers, and other influential people throughout my life. Research, reading, and television have also influenced my values to a certain extend. However, I believe strongly that my core values weigh heavily from my life’s experiences. Defining my Values The core values I speak of are my integrity, hard work and valiant and honest effort, telling the truth, and doing the next right thing. I value my life, my children, my loved ones, and the integrity in which I live my life. My core values are aspects of my life, which I believe are my strengths. My core values are important to me as they guide me through my life. I hold myself accountable for whom I am and how I conduct...

...What is a hero? What is a hero? By definition a hero is “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities" (Hero). We could even look as far back as the Greeks, with their gods and demigods, humans born with super natural powers that could take out an entire city with a flick of their wrist, because of their powers they were called heroes. These gods were feared and worshiped, religions were started because of their tales and accomplishments. Despite all these powers and abilities, one thing is not mentioned, core values. I feel a hero is a combination of values, because bravery without courage, integrity, humility and honor can mean all the difference between being a hero and being lucky. To me a hero is someone who puts all others in front of himself, who puts personal gain and ambitions on the back burner for the betterment of others or the greater good. Others define heroes as someone who signed their name on the dotted line to serve this country, or a person who gives blood in the Publix parking lot, we all have different views and opinions on what a hero is, but I think we can all agree, a hero puts others' lives before their own. What we should all understand, is that all of us have the potential to be a hero, the right person in the right place at the right time, can make all the difference in the world. After reading the other assigned stories I am drawn towards Bodega Dreams, the only character that could fit the definition of a hero is Mr. Tapia....

...the consumer behavior process while in different aisles. I observed 5 consumers in total, consumer A-B-C in the cereal aisle and consumer D and E in the Bread aisle. The details are listed in the Appendix. When making a purchase decision, a consumer goes through a process which is often composed of stages: recognition, information search, alternative evaluation, purchase decision, and post-purchase behavior. In this experiment, consumers recognized that they have the need to buy cereal or bread food goods. At the store, these consumers faced many options, especially for cereals. I have always been overwhelmed by how many types of cereals that the local grocery store carries. These consumers made their purchase decision based on price, value and familiarity with the product. After making their decision, these consumers showed different post-purchase behavior. Some of them picked the product and quickly left the aisle and others stayed in the aisle checking other alternatives even...

He tried to gain as much information as possible and also tried to play on Siebel System’ strengths rather than dwelling on Oracle’s negatives. Hence Carman maintained the Siebel values intact. POSITIVES OF GREGG CARMON’S PERFORMANCE 1) Compliance with Siebel core values: Carman, during his 15mins conversation with the VPs of client services & marketing of Quick & Reilly, completely complied with the Siebel core values as described in the Table below.. Sr. No. | Siebel Core Values | 1 | Serving our customers is not simply a market opportunity. Carman approached the situation with great humility. He didn’t boast of Siebel systems despite having market leadership. | 2 | Our respect for our customers is highly visible in everything we do. | 3 | As a company, we will never place financial gains above ethics. Carman preferred not to comment on its competitor even when straightforwardly asked by Cathy Ridley. | 4 | We choose to be leaders, but we do so with great humility. | 5 | We do not look for problems, we propose solutions. ...November 10, 2012 English P5 Death of a Salesman Essay Like Father Like Son In Arthur Miller’s play, Death of a Salesman, Miller reveals what happens when a dream, especially the American dream, dies, as seen through the life of Willy Loman, a pathetic, self-deluded salesman. The play follows the family through painful conflicts, significant issues such as national values, and the price of blind fate while working toward the ‘American Dream’. The major problem woven into the plot discusses how Willy, insufficiently, attempts to be able to die ‘the death of a salesman’, both wealthy and comfortable. In this play, the American character is criticized because the play emphasizes how children are a result of their parents modeling by including examples such as how Biff and Happy, the unsuccessful children, believe that lying, cheating, and stealing are tolerable because of the example Willy set for them. Furthermore, through Willy’s shallow contemptuous personality, the reader clearly sees that he finds lying, cheating and stealing acceptable. This shows not only in his actions and words, but also through his sons who imitate his values. As Happy, Biff, and Willy are conversing, Biff mentions that he practices with a new football. When Biff is asked where it came from, he simply says, “Well, I borrowed it from the locker room” (Miller 29). This statement combines both lying and stealing, because as Biff tries to cover the fact that he stole the ball. Willy does nothing...
