...when I was still in high school, I had many opportunities to participate in charitable activities, especially volunteer work. I, along with my friends, established an association which was called “The Lucky Grass Flower”. This was the place that we used to shelter the disadvantaged children and orphan in our city. We received so much support and help from the school and other media communications. This helped us a lot in completing our care for the children. In addition, the most important thing was that all the things we did came from our hearts, and this was our motivation for this activity. That was the first volunteer work that I participated in, and it was also the most significant voluntary work that I have ever taken part in. Also in my country, Vietnam, the Communist Youth League is running a very large and meaningful volunteer program for undergraduate students every summer, and it is named "The Green Summer Volunteer Campaign". This volunteer program is very useful for all young people. In participating in this program, the volunteers will be involved with the diversity and richness of activities. However, to be involved in this program, students must undergo a very serious selection contest, based on some certain criteria. Most of the volunteers who are selected are usually those who have good academic achievement. Although I am not lucky enough to join “The Green Summer Volunteer Campaign” because I am not going to college in Vietnam, I still feel very proud when...

...Assignment: 70 HRPYC81 Research report for project: PYC4809 Title: What motivates people to do volunteer work? Examination period: October/November 2013 Contents What motivates people to do volunteer work? Abstract Introduction The motivation of people to volunteer has long fascinated those researching and working alongside volunteers. Understanding the motivational drives of those who volunteer has long been a recurring theme preoccupying much of literature on volunteering. According to research by Esmond and Dunlop (2004), what actually motivates a person to volunteer is a complex and vexing question, yet understanding these motivations can be of great assistance to organisation. Every year millions of people around the world give of their time and energy to make a difference through volunteering (Esmond, 2004). The types of volunteer activities engaged in by people are as varied as the volunteers themselves and their value to their communities and society as a whole remains immeasurable. Understanding the underlying motivational drives of those who volunteer has been a recurring theme preoccupying much of literature on volunteering. So what is it that motivates and moves people into action, to get up, to go and to volunteer? An examination of previous research investigating this complex issue follows. Literature review According to tutorial letter 103 for HRPYC81 (2013, p.5), “Volunteerism may be defined as contributing one’s time or...

...organisation which aims to help and provide shelter for children who are being abandoned, abused at risk and also children from the drug field community. (Byran n.d.) The aim of this proposal is to present strategies which are relevant to help Shelter Home Malaysia to expand and reach out to a higher base of people. Among the challenges address are the lack of funding and also lack of volunteers. A coordinated plan is carefully drafted along with contacts of sponsors attached to the proposal. Volunteers Volunteer is a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for aservice or undertaking. They are person who performs a service willingly and without pay.Not-for-profit membership organizations such as ASSE rely on their volunteers to fulfill their vision and goals (Camplin 2009). Getting enough of the right people is always an ongoing concern to all non-profit organizations. Lack of volunteers is a main problem that is currently being faced by Shelter Home. In order to operate all the ongoing activities and events smoothly, more volunteers must be recruited. People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, have fun or make a difference. Some are completely devoted to the cause, while others simply wish to do their bit where they can. In actual fact, many of the reasons for volunteering abroad are the same as those for volunteering at home but here there is the added bonus of getting to travel. However volunteering...

...Not-For-Profit Growing local native plants Assesment Item 1 BSB115- Maanagement 1. Introduction Volunteering is any activity, which time is given without being paid for to benefit another person or group (John Wilson, 2000). Not-for-profit organisations often rely on volunteering to operate their business and this need will continue to grow as a result of volunteering trends in an ageing population (Volunteering Australia, 2012). This brief will outline some of the challenges and opportunities faced as a result of an ageing population, specifically focusing on the Green Frog Nursery. 2. Summary of the issue Whilst volunteering in Australia is steadily increasing, most organisations require more volunteers to achieve a significant social impact (volunteering Australia, 2011). The majority of volunteers are older people who are more likely to volunteer than those in younger age groups (Volunteering Australia, 2012). One of the reasons for this is greater community engagement through voluntary work practise, which positively influences volunteers ‘subjective quality of life (Taghian, D´Souza & Polonsky, 2012). The rate of volunteering in Australia is impacted negatively by variables including age, gender, locality and cultural background (Volunteering Australia, 2012). Green Frog Nursery has to replace its core team of volunteers with younger people for its continual success, however this is not an easy task as they view ‘volunteering’ differently to...

...Czarina Miara O. Raña Ms. Valera COM32 I. Rationale Volunteers wish to assist others in life, rather than just themselves. The benefit volunteers receive is a mere personal satisfaction in knowing they have helped out others. There are many ways to volunteer which doesn't require much on your part, but for the people it helps, it would mean the world. Today's generation has a lot more distractions than previous generations. Yet despite our busy schedules, most young people still find time to get involved with their community. I believe that everyone, especially the more fortunate, has a certain obligation to give back to their community. II. ...The Benefits of Volunteer Maxwell Nguyen WRIT130-F1FF Kate Schultz March 24, 14 Abstract In this research paper, my topic question is “what is the benefits of volunteer for college students?” By pointing out the questions, I had come up with three main points for the paper. The first benefit of volunteer is helping people to have healthier lives. For example, doing volunteer work outside in fresh environment could help people to be more positive and more physically active. Not only that, volunteer helps people to reduce stress and enhance their happiness. The second benefit of volunteer is helping college students to get involved with the community, thus, helping them to get a successful job. Volunteer in a specific field helps a student to get used to what he/she is studying. Also, while volunteering, a student can meet many others people, which helps him/her to improve his/her communication skill, his/her confidence, and his/her networking with others. Last but not least, volunteer helps the world a better place. There are many non-profit organization opening, which bring many students together to help those less fortunate people. ...to use brainstorming. I wrote a list of what I felt the benefits of volunteering were as well as different things about volunteering and then used them to create my essay. Draft Are you bored with your life? Do you feel that you want to do something new or more for your community? Volunteering can be a great way for you to meet new people, get involved with your community and feel good. When you volunteer, whether it’s helping others or volunteering on a project or program, what you are doing will benefit an individual person or many people. Volunteering can be a short or long term situation, but whichever you choose, you should make sure that you are able to commit to the time involved. I volunteer at my church. The program that I volunteer in is called Friendship Ministry. With volunteering for the Friendship Ministry, I share God’s love with people who have impairments and help them become an active member of God’s family. Each mentor is assigned a “friend” that they will develop a relationship with. We sit with our friends and have lunch with them and play activities and sing with them while teaching them that we were all made special and are God’s family. We do this the third Sunday of each month. Each mentor interacts with their friends differently, but makes them feel special. I developed a special relationship with my friend Susan. She lives in a group home run by the state. She is 43 years old and such a wonderful person. We decided that since our birthdays...

...Be honest, this is my first time doing volunteer in my life so far. And I have to say thanks to the class that gives me the opportunity to earn this experience. I think being a volunteer is the best way to show my regards, and contribute my strength to the nature individually. It is also a wonderful experience for just being in the arms of our nature. I get the chance to see how beautiful the nature is, and to learn how to keep this beauty by using our own hands. It was a great experience to work with the Green Seattle Forest Stewards and a group of 15 other volunteers in Burke-Gilman Playground Park. It was exciting to see a lot new people gathering together for this nonprofit activity. We introduced each other and got ready to reach some achievements through our corporations. There were so many different types of tools lied on the ground in front of us, such as, shovels, big scissors, hoes and some professional tools for invading which I was not familiar with. My job was interesting; my mission was to invade the non-native plants on the sidewalk. One of the stewards started showing me what kinds of plants we are invade and teach me how to invade them. There were two main types of non-native plants in our working area, which were ivy and blackberry. Those little individuals grow fast, widely and have really bad affects to the native plants and even the environment system of the area. So it is better to remove them with their roots in order to keep the plants...

When I was in college I was involved with a lot of volunteer work and wish I could continue my involvement into my career. While being here at the company I have noticed some employee disengagement and by having this program in our company it can bring our team together even more and stronger.
