...Growing up in California has given me a different life than other applicants. California has blessed me with many opportunities that may not have been awarded to me, had I lived somewhere else. Two of these amazing opportunities involve the beach and the Assistance League of Tustin. Initially, The beach has given me the opportunity to not only find myself but to also grow as a person. My favorite activity at the beach is surfing with my friends. We love to go into the waves and talk amongst ourselves while surfing. After surfing and talking with each other, we started to develop our own community which helped improve the very place in which we came together. We helped out by participating in and leading beach cleanups and volunteering at the...

...Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are? There were only three minutes left in the game. The score was tied and we were determined to score the winning goal of the tournament. Tension was building up when I heard the referee blow his whistle; the other team had fouled and it was our free kick. This was the perfect chance for us as we had practiced similar plays multiple times. My teammate would kick the soccer ball towards the right post of the goal and that would be my opportunity. With a strategic little body fake, I avoided a defender and ran towards the goal, just as she took the kick. As I was running, I could envision the play; the ball would hit the ground and I would be standing right there, ready to send it flying into the goal. As the ball bounced in front of me, I tuned out everything around me, and kept my focus on nothing but the ball and the goal. All I had to do was wait for the right moment. I carefully lifted up my leg and swung it towards the ball. In that moment, it felt so natural to make contact with the ball. It flew unstoppably into the goal, sending ripples though the net. Barely a moment passed before the crowd went wild! Their roars, cheers and chants filled the air as they stood on their toes to see the reactions on the field. At that moment, I knew I had the biggest smile on...

...I have played soccer since I was five years old. My entire life has revolved around it and I couldn’t imagine not playing. From a young age I was a natural athlete so sports came easy to me. Out of all the sports I played soccer spoke to me most. As I got older I got better and more passionate about it. I fell in love with the sport and every time I play I feel this rush of adrenaline that brings me excitement. As I began to take soccer more seriously, my father began to notice that I was better than other children that were my age so he decided that it was best to put me in an older age group so I could challenge and make myself a better player. When I turned nine, I decided that I wanted to switch to a more competitive team that would challenge me even more so I went from my local team, Coral Gables Storm, to a travel team, Weston FC, which was about forty-five minutes away from my house. Even switching to a more challenging club I still played up to continue to challenge myself and make myself a better player than what I was. Then when I was twelve I felt that my time at Weston FC was over and that I needed a new club, so I went to Sunrise (about an hour drive). After Sunrise, came Boca United, which is the club I play for now and it’s even further. A lot of people think I’m crazy for traveling so far to play...

...learned lots about the inner workings of a business. The knowledge that we gained throughout the eight rounds of the simulation helped us to be successful in the simulation itself, and it will help us to be successful and well prepared for work in business in the real world. Capsim has greatly expanded my knowledge about the communication and cooperation that it takes for companies to be successful. Throughout the Capsim simulation, our group was adamant about communicating with each other. The practice round of Capsim taught us that communicating with each other is vital in order for everybody to be on the same page. Our group split up the roles amongst different people in the group, so...

...About this time last year I was being carried off of a soccer field after taking a hit to my knee while playing. Before even going to see I doctor I knew what the diagnosis would be. After an MRI and many consults I had received the news that I had torn my ACL and lateral meniscus, a soccer player’s worst nightmare. I had become completely discouraged. Thankfully, following my surgery I received treatment from the most amazing man. My physical therapist changed my life, he not only helped heel my knee, but also heeled my morale. He inspired my decision to become a physical therapist. Devoting my life to a sport I loved solidified my decision to specialize in athletic injuries, or so I thought. As previously mentioned in discussions I have been very exposed to disabilities. My high school had an inclusionary program that allowed me to meet many individuals with disabilities and learn to accept and understand their situations. This is where I first grew interested in disabilities. Immediately after my surgery I attended therapy regularly. I began to notice that a sweet girl with cerebral palsy also consistently went to physical therapy. It just so happened that she had appointments the same time as mine. Her...

...For this project, I chose to observe a four-year-old boy, a three-year-old boy, and a three-year-old girl during a family gathering while they interacted and played with each other. Bryce, the four-year-old had already started preschool while the other two, Jazmine and Damen, still hadn’t been enrolled in preschool or daycare and spent most of their time with their mother and grandmother. From what I learned from Bryce’s mother he was doing well in school, being very helpful and kind to his teachers and classmates. The twins mother told me that although they played well with other children, Damen did not like to be touched or talked to by any other adult that was not his mother, father, grandmother, or aunt. While Jazmine was friendly with...

...of our interest. I chose Page Cotton because of his fantastic history in helping shape DePauw University athletics into what it is today. I asked him to provide information on his path and gathered a lot of information on how he got to where he is today. He was a professor, a coach, athletic director, and now, senior advisor to the President, Brian W. Casey, at DePauw University. "I graduated from Springfield College in 1969 and ended up right at DePauw with a head coaching job for the men's soccer team." "With coaching the soccer team 39 years I had a record of 390-190-33." He also served as the men's tennis coach seven seasons, basketball coach for three seasons, and filled in for some games for the women's basketball team. Mr. Cotton was also a professor of kinesiology during his coaching career and he actually obtained the Medora C. Adams professor award. After he retired from coaching, he served as an athletic director for 15 years. With the success Mr. Cotton brought to the university, therefore was offered the position as the senior advisor after retiring from the athletic director position in 2012. After talking about Mr. Cotton’s background at DePauw University we then talked...

...Sample Case Review Bowers v. National Collegiate Athletic Association Michael Bowers v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, 118 F.2d 494 (D.N.J. 2007) I. Background and Purpose In the case of Bowers v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Bowers filed a suit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association under Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA defines a qualified individual with disabilities as a person who meets genuine skill, education, experience, or other requirements of a job that the person holds or seeks, and they can perform the "essential functions" of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. In this case, Bowers argues that he is a qualified individual in the field of education. Bowers was looking to be recruited by University for football, under the NCAA. ...computer. Two seconds later, you are looking at the tweet you were tag in on your phone. Time is passing by faster than you know it. You realize now, the deadline on submitting your writing is approaching. You panic. You start to write random sentences, hoping that it will all make sense towards the end. Writing is a piece of art, therefore it should not include a deadline for submission. A deadline should not exist. A deadline affects the process of crafting a writing piece by focusing on the time of submission rather than the formation and creation of the writing. Writing should be about expressing feelings or emotions towards a topic that stands out. It...

Even at three years old, I had been admitted to the hospital several times, and I did everything in my power to avoid returning there. My teachers, of course, realized...

...Throughout my life, I have had to adapt my leadership style at different times to be successful. Each style has been unique based on my circumstances and each experience has influenced who I am today. To fully understand who that is, you need to start from the beginning. I am a triplet with two brothers that were born just a few minutes behind me. They were my first team and two people that I shared every childhood experience with for the next 18 years. I obviously didn’t know it at the time, but my childhood would forever be defined by this team. I was one of “The Triplets”. It was our identity and in our small hometown people recognized us no matter where we went. My parents dressed us alike, we played the same sports, and we were in all...

...of the world’s most popular brands, Nike. Just about anywhere you go, you can be certain that you will see that famous swoosh logo. Nike is the brand of choice for people of all ages worldwide due largely to the fact that is the most popular and recognizable brand in the sportswear and footwear world. Passion for Nike I have been a huge basketball fan my whole entire life. My earliest memories of watching basketball on TV include the greatest to ever play the game, Michael Jordan. Nike signed Michael Jordan to a basketball sneaker contract in 1984 which turned out to benefit both parties more than they could ever imagine, “The original five-year deal was worth $500,000 annually, plus royalties. The terms of Jordan’s current deal with Nike are a closely guarded secret, but royalties now generate more than $60 million annually for MJ, according to sources. Nearly 30 years later, the brand is still a marketing juggernaut. It controlled 58% of the U.S. basketball shoe market in 2012” (Badenhausen, 2013). To this day, I still have my collection of Jordan sneakers that I have compiled during the past ten years of my life. Another reason I am passionate about the brand is because 90% of my athletic wear is Nike. Nike makes a quality product that is comfortable, fashionable, and relatively affordable. I have tried Adidas and Reebok basketball sneakers before with an open mind and I did not have the same type of luck that I do when I wear my Nike basketball sneakers. Finally, my...

...Part One- Introduction A. I became active in sports and sports spectating roughly when I was in middle school. When I got to middle school I became active in athletics and got my first taste of competitive sport and loved it. B. I believe that some of my biggest influences in becoming so active in sports was my family. Many people in my family are coaches, and for the majority of my childhood I was the only girl within my group of my cousins, so growing up I watched many sports events and played with my cousins. C. Today, I am not as active in sports as I would like to be. I attempt to keep up with football, but other than that I do not religiously follow sport or participate in it nearly as much as I would like to. This is really just because of the fact that I’m in college, and I dedicate much of my time to working and taking care of classes. Part Two- Social Values A. Two profound memories that I...

...I began high school band in 8th grade. I had played flute for about four years, but it was quite a change for a musician who could barely read rhythms at a 6th grade level. While at first I had thought they would put me with the other flute players because that is what I had known for the last three years, but they did the complete opposite! For the 2014-2015 marching season, I was in Ledford Marching band’s front ensemble. The front ensemble was filled with the most ridiculously talented people. There were people who had played percussion for over eight years, there were people would later go to audition for all-state, and people who marched for national drum corps! I learned many rules my 8th grade year being in the front ensemble. The first thing that I learned was: you’re never alone. Dalton Craven taught me this rule when I was supposed to bring in seven percussion items outside by myself. While you’re...
