They chat amongst themselves questioning what they have gotten into, as we wait for the last of the guys to show up. Upon the arrival of the last guy, I tell them all to strip from the waist up, which brings on distasteful comments and crude jokes. Their insecurities are put aside once they remove their shirts, some stand there eyeing the others, measuring their manliness based on the amount of hair on their chests to the tones muscles, or lack thereof. Others check themselves out in the window panes. I roll my eyes and chuckle, as I put on clear rubber gloves, the dust inside them sucking the moisture out of my...

...Rusty Car From a very young age, I have been fascinated with fixing those things that are broken. Such things as window glass, appliances, and cars, especially cars. Cars have always been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. I have removed and installed automobile glass, painted cars, refurbished cars, and sold cars. You name it and I have fixed it. I can remember the very first day I ever laid eyes on a car as if it were yesterday. My brother came driving down the long, windy driveway of my family home in Binghamton, New York in what appeared to be a Cadillac Deville. I say what “appeared to be a Cadillac Deville” because the car was so rusty it was hard to tell exactly what it was. But as the car came closer and I saw the blue paint, the shiny hub caps, and rusty door jams a waive of excitement runs all over my body. The beautiful car stops right in front of me and my brother gets out of the car and shouts, “Hey Selim, you want to go for a ride?” I ran and jumped in the car before he even finished his sentence. As we are driving around our neighborhood, I find an old school textbook on the subject of auto body repair. It appears to be from the 1970’s from the way the students were dressed in the pictures inside it and the brown color the pages had turned. Skimming through the pages of the book, I find a chapter on removing rust from the exterior of a vehicle. I remember that I saw the rusted door jams on my brother’s new car and so I ask...

...aid in funding the vibrant and developing culture of art by supporting the creation and production of new works by emerging artists. The Foundation gives donations or grants to non-profit art institutions and artists in Minnesota. This particular exhibition held at MCAD showcases the works of five recipients of the $10,000.00 grant. These emerging artists are Susannah Bielak, Amanda Hankerson, Michael Hoyt, Melissa Loop and Lauren Roche. The exhibition includes video, drawings, and performed work by Bielak. Photographs by Hankerson, including a mobile drawing unit designed by Hoyt, mysterious landscapes by loop, and captivating abstracted portraits by Roche. The 2012/13 winners of the grant seem to have had a clear focus in terms of what they wanted to display and composed their pieces in a fascinating manner. The pieces are very diverse when it comes content as well as media; I would defiantly say that these are defiantly artists to look out for in the near future. The works that I feel are most representative of this show come from the landscape and portrait paintings composed by Melissa Loop and Lauren Roche. Both painters are considered traditional with their choice medium being oil on canvas. Loop has more of an affinity for painting portraits of amazon like landscapes. She acknowledges her former Hudson River school as being a source of inspiration for her works. Her reliefs inspire one to not only look at the serenity and beauty of the exotic landscapes, but also...

...artist is Richard Texier. Richard was born in Niort, France. He was born on June 28, 1955. He is still alive, and he is 61 years old. He lives in, and works in Paris. He is a painter, and a sculptor. He sculpts mythical animals, and even real animals. He paints things from astronomy history. He settled in paris in 1975 where he studied art, and architecture. He has 4 films. He was an artist, and he has his own films how cool is that. He is known as the best living artist of his generation. His current work is based on Pantheo Vortex. Second, what i've noticed that my artist does sculptors of animals. I've also noticed that he does paintings of the past. When i look at his paintings i think of the times when they would draw on the walls. His style seems soft but then again feels bold and heavy. His artwork isn't really satisfying to look at, in my opinion. His art is more realistic than abstract. I wasn't drawn to my artist, i couldn't find any that I really liked...

...The War on Drugs began in 1971 when President Nixon addressed his nation about the increase in drug activity and now almost five decades later there has been absolutely no decrease in drug activity. However, this rise was caused because, soldiers coming back from The Vietnam War (which was very unpopular with American citizens) came back addicted to heroin, which was available and inexpensive in the Asian countries they was stationed in. Drugs can be any prescribed, illegal, sold over-the-counter, retail, or even as stuff some people use every day. Illegal drugs include: marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Prescription drugs include: morphine, sleep aids, or amphetamines. Some over-the-counter and retail drugs include: caffeine, energy drinks,...

...Major pollutants and where they come from Carbon monoxide is a colourless gas that is set free when wood, petrol or coal are not completely burned. It is also in products like cigarettes. Because of it , less oxygen enters our blood and it makes us confused and sleepy. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that gets into the atmosphere when we burn coal , oil or wood. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are gases that come from air-conditioning systems or refrigerators. When they get into the air they rise high into the atmosphere ( about 20—50 km above the earth’s surface). There, they get into contact with other gases and destroy the ozone layer. We need the ozone layer because it protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Lead is in petrol, paint, batteries and other products. It is very dangerous if it gets into our bodies . In...

Crime is in every community, neighborhood and society in the world. No one is crime free, just because you do not know of crime in your neighborhood does not mean that it is not close by and waiting for the right chance to strike your community. Crime is the opportunity to commit the act and reap the rewards. Our tax money is used to educate people about crime, to bring criminals to justice, and lock them away. To have a criminal incarcerated, our tax dollars provide for the prisons, the officers, three meals per day, dental, vision, medical, medications, hospital for surgeries, recreation equipment, color television and all of their toiletries are also provided. For those who are religious, there is a church and outside ministers come in to do services. Criminals look for easy targets that will give them big rewards for their efforts. Take for instance there are several elderly persons who live in the neighborhood and receive checks on the 1st of every month. They cash their checks and this would be easy prey for a criminal to take the money. Also there is three elderly disabled persons who use the power chairs to get around, they cash their checks and are just as vulnerable. The neighborhood has empty store fronts, rundown buildings...

...TV mounted on Christi’s wall. Every room in the huge, luxurious, house had received a TV just like Christi’s as a Christmas present from Jose the butler. The TV’s allowed the Jackson family to talk to each other face to face anytime they wanted to. “Uugh! Mom, stop nagging us, we’re almost ready, gosh!” Christi whined to her mother. After the three girls were done perfecting each other they stepped to the elevator and rode downstairs. “I can’t believe we’re in 7th grade!” Melissa said. “Yeah I know, it seems like just last year we met in 1st grade,” Kalli replied. Christi could care less about being in 7th grade. She was more interested in Nicole Perry’s new makeover she had heard about. What if she’s prettier than us now, Christi thought to herself. “What if she thinks just because she’s pretty that she can join the Christi Clique?” “Oh well, it can’t be that bad.” Melissa, Kalli, and Christi stepped into the Cadillac Escalade, buckled their seat belts and started discussing the new year’s latest fashions. When the pearly white car approached Maryville Middle School Christi noticed a giant group of students huddled around someone. “What’s going on over there?” Christi asked, suddenly getting worried. All of her bad thoughts about Nicole Perry flooded back into her mind. The girls were relieved to be out of the car because of Christi’s oh-so annoying mother who was just determined to be a part of their...

...the Misfit killer. These conversations state the fact that she is from a traditional background and her attitude alternates to fit the surroundings that she is in. The grandmother loses her capacity to comprehend what state of mind that she wants to be in. Throughout the entire story the author utilizes a strong sense of foreshadowing for the people and for the events that occur. O’Connor uses this technique three times in the story, describing the grandmother’s dress, the family’s death, and the grandmother’s conversation with the Misfit Killer. The story starts out with the grandmother being uncomfortable about the family’s upcoming trip to Florida from Georgia. She tries to force Bailey to rethink the entire trip by telling him about what she has read in the newspaper. “Here this fellow that calls himself the Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen…and read what it says he did with these people…I wouldn’t take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it” (O’Connor, 2008). Her pleading for the cancellation did not go well and the family prepared to leave the next day. She dressed in “a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collars and cuffs were white organdy trimmed with lace and at her neckline she had pinned a purple spray of cloth violets containing a sachet” (11). The foreshadowing of the end is present with this description; the grandmother’s elaborate attire illustrates her death at the end of the story. Usually when someone dies...

The reason behind the Nazi army frame is to display that even though what the Nazi army was doing during World War II, murdering innocent people based off religion or skin color, seemed like cruelty and chaos they were following a set of rules and ideals which means what they were doing was not anarchy or chaos. Steve-O’s realization that true anarchy cannot exist leads him to begin questioning everything he believed...
