...What is your learning style? Since I graduated from high school, I have already known the kind of learner I was from how I study for tests to how I comprehend in lectures or discussions in class. Indeed, I am an auditory learner because of the information given after the learning style quiz. An auditory learner is best at listening rather than reading or by visually learning. At first, I was shocked that I was an auditory learner because I thought my results would come out as a multi-sensory learner instead since I “thought” I was good at learning in all ways. But, I know the best “preferred” way I learn is by hearing information. After taking the quiz, I realized I was more of an auditory learner than I thought I was. The results of the quiz described me at most of the main points. If I would have a big test to study for, I am not the best at reading silently or reading quickly while I study. I take my time to read and I do read out loud at a quiet tone, so I can actually comprehend what I am reading rather than reading it quickly and forgetting everything faster. Like most people, I do forget about what I read a few minutes later, so to help me remember important facts I always annotate and write side notes. The other learning styles I have is writing down important facts on index cards and testing myself by reading each definition or fact out loud more than once. From one the questions in the quiz it asked how I memorize a phone number from seeing it and I answered the...

...Personality Style Reaction Anatascha Schauer Bethel University Introduction There are four learning styles, visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic. After completing the What’s Your Receptive Learning Style? in the Orientation to Adult Learning by Dan Ridley, pages 34-35, I learned that I am a kinesthetic learner, which I kind of already had an idea that I was. After completing the quiz to determine my learning style, I went online to http://www.humanmetrics.com to learn what my personality style was and boy was it a shock. I thought I was an ESFP and I am most definitely not, I am actually an ISFJ. My reaction to this was very strong and I disagreed with half of it until I started reading the description of an ISFJ and then I agree more with it. Kinesthetic Learner...

...I am a Kinesthetic Learner Amanda B. Greene INFT 101-C64 October 24, 2013 I am a Kinesthetic Learner There are three main learning styles which consist of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. A visual learner learns best by visually seeing and reading what they are learning. An auditory learner enjoys listening to what is being taught in order to better comprehend the material. Kinesthetic learners are typically hands on learners. Kinesthetic learners use bodily communication to assist with learning amongst several other strategies is extremely helpful; however we can also have multiple distractions. Kinesthetic learners use physical activity to learn and comprehend information. When I took the learning styles quiz I scored a seven on the kinesthetic learning section, I also scored a five on the visual and auditory learning sections. Although my score shows that I have strong points in each learning aspect, the way I feel I learn to the best of my ability is through the kinesthetic learning style. The outcome of this quiz does not come to a surprise to me due to the fact I have always considered myself to have kinesthetic learning habits. There are numerous strategies that are used by kinesthetic learners. Thinking proactive and taking color coded notes, sitting in the back of the class in case you fidget, and being creative with power points or projects are great strategies to use. Personally I like to listen to Mozart and other non vocal music while...

...that I learned in this class. I learned that the success of any college student is to understand the concept of being an intentional learner. It is also important to learn how your mind works as a learner. Identifying the four learning patterns is crucial to understanding what kind of learner you are. I learned the importance of understanding the process of being an intentional learner, and how to develop my skills as an intentional learner. Understanding your strengths and weakness as a learner and how they impact you, is also important to know as a student. I also learned that if you learn what the different types of learners there are, you can understand your own personal approach to learning. This class has opened my eyes to the different ways we learn and how becoming an intentional learner can help me succeed in obtaining my goal of getting my degree. If I had to explain to someone who never took this class I would start by teaching them to definition of learning. I would then get into the success factors of motivation, purpose, values, discipline, focus, and readiness. As I get more in-depth about this persons goal as a student, I would tie these factors into his or her goal for getting their education. I would explain what an intentional learner is and how being an intentional learner is the key to their success as a student. I would discuss the learning connections inventory assessment and how their scores indicate what type of learner they are. I would...

...What Type of Learners Am I? Each Person has different learning style; maybe the other is based on visual, auditory or reflective. But its not only 3 learning style there are 12 learning style that can develop their own skills. One of the learning styles is the Tactile Learning; Tactile or kinesthetic learners are those who learn through experiencing/doing things. Tactile Learners like to experience the world and act out events. For this reason, tactile learners may become bored more quickly than other students while listening to a class lecture. I prefer myself as tactile learner because some of the characteristics of this learner like me. I can’t study if my environment is very quiet and silent and I feel bored if my teacher only teaching and not demonstrate what they talking about. Maybe I can understand lesson if it’s acted or the lesson must be experience all the time. I don’t like memorization but if it’s needed I try my best. I like doing my assignments with loud music. To be honest I don’t like teacher only sat on the chair while teaching because for me it’s the reason why the student felt bored. Most of the student easy to understand the lesson if its acted especially if the situation is very interesting it makes the student more observant and they really appreciate what they do and if its acted the ability of the student will be discovered. In a whole teaching inside the classroom is not good in student maybe sometimes make them free to discover their ability on their...

Now a lot of colleges/universities give the privilege of completing courses at home online. There are more and more students choosing to do online schooling. One of the reasons is due to it being a little bit more flexible with their schedules. What is it that makes online learners successful? Boyd (2004) stated “There may be only certain kinds of students under certain conditions who can successfully learn via the online format” (p. 31). Will only certain students succeed in online courses? I feel that anyone can succeed as long as you have motivation and determination. Taormino (2010) stated in the article “Student awareness of the characteristics, traits, and skills for online learning is an important area of dialogue between the student and learning institution” (p.55). I would have to agree with Taormino about making the students more aware of what all is involved with online courses. I do feel that anyone that is doing work on a computer on a regular basis will improve their skills no matter what their background is within computer skills. Mark Taormino’s article has been summarized with key characteristics along with reflection and application for successful online learning. The first category of characteristics for a successful online learner is Technical Factors...

...styles can differ from one individual to another. Even if two individuals have the same kind of learning style their leaning strategies can be different. How can a person find what their learning style might be? What are the strategies for their learning style can a person learn best? One method to find one's learning style is by using the VARK learning tool. VARK was developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming to find the way that different people learn best (Fleming, 2011). VARK is an acronym that stands for the different learning styles visual, aural, reading/writing and kinesthetic (Fleming, 2011). One can go to the VARK website and fill out a questionnaire that will then provide a person with a profile of their learning approach based on the way they answered the questions (Fleming, 2011). Once a person has determined their learning style they would be able to find a list of different learning strategies that might work for them. Visual learners have a better time learning with graphical representations as in flowcharts with step-by-step direction (Bastable, 2008). Aural learners can learn best by listening to lectures, often they might need directions read aloud and prefer to discuss topics in class or study groups (Bastable, 2008). Read/write learners like to review written information, by reading or writing with references to additional sources of information (Bastable, 2008). Kinesthetic learners enjoy learning by doing hands-on activities such as role playing and/or demonstrations...

...Post University Reflection From the beginning of week one, to the end of week eight I have learned so much in this class. I am happy that I will be able to take what I have learned with me, as I start my new life as an elementary special education teacher. With everything that we have learned, the thing that has helped me the most was the time management skills. I noticed that things became a lot easier for me when I was taught how to make a schedule. It took me a little time to catch on to following the specific event and matching them with a specific time. However, after about a week or two, it became second nature. Not only will I be able to use this skill at home with my own family, I will also be able to take this skill with me into the classroom. By sticking to a schedule in the classroom, it will be easier for the students and me as well. Along with time management in unit two, I also learned a lot during units five, six and seven. In unit five we were taught how to write in APA format. During this module I was also take a college writing class that had us writing in APA format. This was very helpful for me not only in this class, but I was also able to use it in my college writing class. I thought it was interesting how both professors used different sources to teach us. I was still a little confused about in-text citations but through some of the sites you listed I was able to figure it out. In order to make sure we knew how to use the APA format, we were...

...What is the difference between Education and Schooling? Education and schooling go hand in hand, so many people get the terms education and schooling mixed up, but education and schooling are not the same thing. Schooling is a formal form of education where students are taught in a classroom about subjects based on a curriculum. Teachers direct their lesson plans around the core of the curriculum for the students to be successful according to society. One can be educated without schooling. For example, if children work well with their hands and can build things, then they have learned the practice of engineering. Someone does not have to be teaching students on how to read and write to educate them. Many times it is thought that students who are schooled the most, are the most intelligent and educated people out there. But what about people who don’t have access to schooling? They may still be educated and show their intelligence in other ways. __ RaphPierre says: April 24, 2013 at 11:45 am I have been working as an electrician on drilling rigs for several years. Each year, we go to classes to learn more about our trade, safety, engineering, and many other aspects of our work. It even goes so far as to go to classes for how to relate with foreign cultures. Education is not equal to school. I learn more on my own than was ever taught in school. I have been educating myself. The possibilities of self education have exploded with the introduction of the net. Even passing...
