Comparative Essay Original Creation of the Earth

...Elements of Earth Science Comparative Essay Original Creation of the Earth Rhonda L. Carter 9 March 2014 PHSC 210-B13 LOU | | Introduction It should be easy to say that the Earth was created by a higher power. For a Christian this higher power is God. The Bible gives us the six day creation of the heavens and the Earth and all that dwell upon it. For anyone else, the higher power is some unknown power that science is still trying to figure out. There are a lot of theories in science about how the Earth was created. One of these theories is the big bang theory. The essay will compare the two theories and show how different they are. Old Earth View In the old Earth view of the original creation of Earth we are told about the big bang theory. In order to explain this theory one must understand what science says that it is. “According to the big bang theory, the universe began by expanding from an infinitesimal volume with extremely high density and temperature. The universe was initially significantly smaller than even a pore on your skin. With the big bang, the fabric of space itself began expanding like the surface of an inflating balloon – matter simply rode along the stretching space like dust on a balloon’s surface.” (Takahashi, 2000) When dealing with science, one can see that scientists do not believe in a divine power such as God. They deal with their theories and will tell you that they believe something was created, but not that it was created by God. Only...

Our place in the universe a. The modern view of the universe 1) What is our Sun and what is its role in the solar system? a) Our sun is a hot ball of glowing gases that is at the heart of our solar system. b) Our suns role is to give out energy and heat. This energy and heat allows for there to be life on earth. However, even though our sun is unique and life giving there are billions of stars that are just like it in the Milky Way galaxy. (Solar System Exploration, 2012) 2) What is our Milky Way galaxy and the sun’s position in it? a) The Milky Way galaxy is a spiral galaxy that has arms that extend out from the center like a pinwheel. Our galaxy is one of about 100 billion visible universes. (Solar System Exploration, 2012) b) The sun’s posistion in the galaxy is in the Orions arm of the Mily Way. However, because of how our planets are set up in our system there is life on Earth. The Sun has an almost circular orbit. The sun is just the right distance from the center of our galaxy to promote life. The planets and our sun are just the right distance apart for one of our planets, Earth, to have higher intelegance life on it. 3) What is the Big Bang and what does it say about the age of the universe? a) Scientist says that the Big Bang is what created our universe. Comparative Essay

...Introduction Many people today have their thoughts on how the Earth was created. Christians take a biblical perspective of how the universe was created by a creator. One thought that Christians believe is that God created the earth and accomplished this in six days and rested on the seventh day. This is the model of how a week is set up and the model that we currently follow. Jon W. Green states “though differences of opinion exist for various doctrinal issues within Christianity, few are more divisive than controversies surrounding the days of creation and the age of the Earth.” As stated previously many people have thoughts and are curious as to how the Earth itself came into existence. When it comes to the scientific community there are two major theories the old earth view and the young earth view. The two conflicting points of view vary in the idea of how long the it took to create the earth and how old the Earth is. Many creationist take the side of believing that the world was created in six twenty-four hours days and that the Earth itself is no more than 6,000 years old. Whereas those who believe in the old earth theories believe that the earth was formed over a longer period of time. There are two concepts of how these happened the Big bang theory and the six day creation theory. Each of these relates back to the age of the earth. Young - Earth View In the Bible it clearly stated in Genesis 1 -5 how the earth was made and the order that God created things and as the Bible...

8.3 the Sun Powers Earth`S Climate System

...8.3 The Sun Powers Earth`s Climate System Homework - Thursday 09/06/12 pg. 329 #1-6 1. Explain how the ocean interacts with the Sun’s radiation. The ocean interacts with the Sun’s radiation by reflecting and absorbing the Sun’s radiation. I think the ocean absorbs the radiation because depending on the season the area by the mass of water is about 1°C or 2°C difference in temperature proving the ocean does absorb the Sun’s radiation. Although it absorbs heat I also thing the ocean has a medium albedo. The ocean is light coloured/clear, and is a different form of ice which has the highest albedo. Therefore the ocean interacts with the Sun’s radiation by reflecting and absorbing the heat energy. 2. The amount of energy Earth absorbs is equal to the amount of energy it radiates. Why is this important? Explain your answer. It’s important that the amount of energy Earth absorbs is equal to the amount of energy it radiates because on Earth we need to keep the temperature at a sustainable temperature, meaning the Earth can’t be too hot or too cold. For there to be a sustainable environment the Earth needs to maintain a healthy temperature for human life, and other life. By equally absorbing and reflecting the radiation from the Sun Earth is able to support life, this is very important. 3. The Sun shines continuously on Earth. Explain why Earth does not keep warming up. Even though the Sun shines continuously on Earth, the Earth doesn’t keep warming up because...

Billions of Years vs. Thousands of Years

...The earth is known to be old, but what is the truth of how old is the earth. There is scientific evidence of how old it is, some would say it’s Billions of years and some would say Thousands of years old. There is a lot of factors like rocks layers, plants, animals, sun, moon and many more facts that can predict how many years has the earth been around. But to find the truth if it’s a Billions of years or Thousands of years we would have to compare the two and even look into scientist discovering facts. Or do we go off the what God has created and the Bibles authors? When we read about how or what makes the earth Billions of years? There was a Geologic time scale that was invented in 1800’s. Within this invention, this scale was only to find the geologic ages, with out the information of periods or events. By this we believe the earth was formed about 4 billions years ago. This dates have been proven by analyzing samples of rocks , solar systems, and minerals. Scientist have collaborated and scientifically giving proves of objects, like how old it the oldest rock on earth or the oldest mineral and where did it come from. Material (Oldest earth rock), Age (4.0 billion years), and Methods (radiometric) our how the geologic scale combinations of specific source that tell the what scientist have documented and dated there sources. These are examples of why some assume the age of the earth is a billion years old. One big scientists believer was James Hutton studied...

The Layers of the Earth by Doug Taylor If you were able to cut the earth in half you would see that it is not the same all the way through. The inside of the earth is made of several layers. Some of the layers are solid and some are liquid. Most of these layers are very hot. The center of the earth is called the inner core. Scientists think this part of the core is solid. It is probably made of metals like nickel and iron. The inner core is very hot. This deep inside the earth there is a lot of pressure. The pressure keeps the metals solid even though they are very hot. Scientists think the temperature in the core is about 7,200 degrees! Just past the inner core is the outer core. It is probably also made of metals. The metals of the outer core are melted into liquid. This layer is almost as hot as the inner core. The metals are able to melt in this layer because there is not as much pressure. The inner core and outer core together are about 3,400 kilometers thick! The next layer is called the mantle. The mantle is made of melted rocks called magma. The magma is a thick liquid. It flows like putty in most places. When magma erupts to the surface of the earth, it is called lava. The mantle is very thick and very hot. Scientists think the temperature of the mantle is about 5,400 degrees. The mantle is about...

The Water Cycle

...The Water Cycle BY Anissa Chambers Student ID: L23254780 Presented to Dr. Travis Bradshaw In partial fulfillment of the requirements of Elements of Earth Science PHSC 210 Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary Lynchburg, VA July 15, 2013 The Water Cycle or the hydrologic cycle is an amazing system that God has put in place to maintain the of the earth’s most important resource, water. There is nothing on earth that does not require water to survive in some way or fashion and without it there would be no life on earth. You will find water “in the oceans, glaciers, rivers, lakes, air, soil, and living tissue,” and all of these “reservoirs” makes up the Earth’s hydrosphere. As you study this natural system you cannot help but see the hand of a powerful and creative God. The hydrologic cycle is a process that is constantly recycling the Earth’s water supply. This cycle consist of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and then infiltration. The water cycle is powered by solar energy, or controlled by the sun. The sun produces heat which causes the water from the oceans, lakes, rivers etc. to warm and evaporate. This evaporation is when water is heated to the point that it turns into a water vapor. The water vapor rises and cools which is called condensation, and as more and more water vapors cool it forms clouds. As the water droplets that are forming the clouds become larger and larger until the atmosphere cannot hold them up any longer and the fall to the ground as...

What Is the Christian Role in Managing the Environment?

...What is the Christian role in managing the Environment? By JOHNSON OLAWUWO DEYI Environment is referred to as our surroundings, the conditions of our existence. It includes both living and non-living elements and provides resources to support life on Earth. Essential part of the environmental concept is establishing a relationship between living organisms and the natural habitat they live in. The connection between those two is built upon interdependency. The words ‘nature’ and ‘environment’ can be used as substitutes. Generally, it is believed that nature excludes everything made by man. So, there is man on one side of the equation and there is environment on the other. What should be found is balance between them, a way for them to be combined properly. And since we, as people, live in the surrounding environment, from our point of view, we are kind of in it but not exactly part of it. And because we look at the matter from the human perspective, we are not included. It can be concluded that environment is also everything that surrounds us, naturally existing but not manmade. This includes mountains, seas, forests, animals, other living organisms, natural forces. We are part of its environment. From our perspective, the ant is part of our environment. But both the ant and the man are excluded from their own environments when the matter is view through their eyes. Humans are given a very significant and...

Planetary Formation Research Paper

...How was the Earth formed? The Earth was formed in one distinct way. It built up and changed over time to give us the Earth we live on today. Planetary differentiation, layers of the Earth, convection currents and seismic waves make up the Earth we know today. Planetary differentiation helped formed the Earth. Electromagnetic forces brought dust to stick together, as gravity brought the bigger chunks of dust together. This ball of dust eventually became so big that it collided with meteors and comets, giving us our early Earth. Later, molten metals that are less dense rose and hardened, while denser metals sank. This is how the layers of our Earth were formed. The hot molten metals that sank formed the inner and outer core. The molten metals that rose and hardened became the mantle and the crust. How is the inner core solid if the molten metals remained melted to form the outer core? High pressure from the...

...only answer is that the Lord created the Earth in six literal days and on the seventh day the Lord rested. But to evolutionists the answer to how the Earth came about is the Big Bang theory. This topic has been debated for centuries now, and yet some people will never believe the truth. II. Old-Earth View The old-earth view to the original creation of this earth is the Big Bang theory. Most scientists that do not believe in a divine creator, being our Heavenly Father, believe in this theory. The dictionary definition for the Big Bang theory’s of creation of the Earth is, “the theory that the universe originated sometime between ten billion and twenty billion years ago from the cataclysmic explosion of a small volume of matter at extremely high density and temperature” (TheFreeDictionary, 2011). Like the definition has said, evolutionists believe that this theory happened billions of years ago. What most scientists believe concerning the theory is that some form of matter was struck by what they think is lightning, which created the infamous amoeba. From the amoeba, evolutionists believe everything has been created and continued to evolve and progress. III. Young-Earth View The young-earth theory proves to have a divine creator, God. Christians and creationists profess to believe in this view because of their relationship with the Lord and I am in full agreement. I believe this theory to be the most precise and thorough view there this. First, I believe in the Heavenly Father...

The Hubble

...THOUGHT PAPER 2 THE HUBBLE The earth is given to us, to grow, to survive, to breathe and to live; it’s for our own advantage. But we often take this privilege for granted, probably because its given for free, we did not earn it or strive to deserve it. We value it less; however, one of the beauty that The Hubble showed, was that with trillion miles away, galaxies and stars, non-showed existence of life; it was only the Earth, our home that showed the wonderful blessing that God has given us. How can we then give back to the Earth? How can we balance the need of demand and supply? The Hubble documentary portrays the Earth is the only one who has life, it suggests that one must take care of our planet with the purpose of having a home for future generations to come. The Hubble is a space telescope that is located above the surface of the atmosphere specifically in the low earth orbit far above rain clouds and light pollution. Hubble has an unobstructed view of the universe; scientists have used The Hubble to observe the most distant stars and galaxies as well as planets in our solar system. Hubble takes extremely sharp pictures, the most detailed visible-light image ever made of the universe’s most distant objects. It is one of the largest and most versatile, and is well known as both a vital research tool and a benefit to public relations for astronomy. Hubble’s existence marks the most significant advance in astronomy since Galileo’s telescope. It was built by the United...
