Essay On Lowering The Drinking Age

...lowered in the United States. This makes the most sense because kids legally become an adult at the age of 18 where they are granted other rights as well, such as the ability to enlist in the army. If we are legally an adult and trusted to protect our country we should be trusted with a couple of drinks. Lowering the drinking age also decreases unsafe drinking in regulated environments and less drunk driving accidents. With regulated drinking kids become more aware with their alcohol tolerance and get used to it in a safe environment without doing it illegally. This creates a safer environment for everyone. With kids more aware of their intake of alcohol less accidents such as drunk driving will happen. The is why the drinking age should be lowered to the age of when you actually become an adult. Kids legally become an adult at the age of 18. At this time in your life you receive the rights and responsibilities of adulthood. Some examples of the choices that you might or can make are enlisting in the army, voting for president, buying lottery tickets...

...Well Doc, I don’t quite know what to do. I haven’t been able to sleep, and when I do get the privilege of sleep it only lasts for a few hours before I wake up due to a dramatic nightmare. So many bad things had happened on that island, so many bad things that I cannot get out of my mind. No matter how much I try to forget about it I just keep reliving what had gone on. I need your help; I don’t know how long I can go on like this. I learned a lot about myself and others, sadly I don’t know if I like it. When the plane crashed on the island I thought I was with the most able bodied kids to help all of us survive. We were all from a higher end academy and had vast knowledge in miscellaneous subjects. Also, we were probably the most mature kids for are age, coming from the U.K of course. Yet, I was wretchedly wrong. One thing I found out about those kids is that naturally humans are savages. Another boy on the island, Simon, was viciously murdered because we were all dancing and in the moment and acting wild. Looking back on this event I don’t remember much of what went on except the fact that we killed an innocent boy just because we were dancing and having fun. That was not the only time I saw savagery. It happened when Jack and his hunters killed the sow. They didn’t just kill a pig for food, the vindictively and ruthlessly murdered a pig. The kill of the pig seemed as if to give them a high. The hunters were in awe of the fact that they could dominate another...

Essay On Lowering The Drinking Age

...Lowering the Drinking Age It’s a fact that most kids try alcohol before they are around 16. In Europe the drinking age is around 16-18 years old. The legal drinking age really hasn’t stopped young teens before. It’s talked a lot about in schools and other states of why it should be lowered. Lowering the drinking age will give these teens the responsibility that some of them are looking for. The drinking age within the United States should be lowered to allow people to begin legally consuming alcohol at the age of 18 as a measure to combat binge drinking, to boost the economy, and to be more reflective of an 18 year old person's status as an adult. Lowering the drinking age to 18 years old can diminish the thrill of breaking the law by underage drinking. There is a lot of excitement that some kids feel knowing they are breaking the law and most likely not going to get caught. Not wanting to admit to drinking “…Which can make rebellious teenagers sneak off to basements and backwoods to binge drink far from adult supervision” (CNN). A lot of teens feel the thrill of breaking the law and having their parents not know. Knowing that they shouldn’t be drinking is that “rebellious” side of the teens. If...

Are Children Nowadays Growing Up Too Fast

...children want to become adults too early? Or is it due to the incredibly high amounts of pressure put upon children to be the best of the best, not just the best that they can be. Many people would say that it’s because of freedom. Children don’t know what it’s like to be older, but adults know what it’s like to be young, and just how easy you have it. However kids only see that adults are respected, they get to do what they want, and they can drive, they are allowed to stay up late etc. all children want that. As children we are constantly being told what to do- go clean up your room, do your prep, those clothes aren’t appropriate- we feel as though we have no control over our own lives, we see how adults are in charge, they make the rules and regulations, so naturally we want that, we want to be able to do what adults do. Kids think if they talk, dress and act like adults; they will be taken more seriously and treated more like an adult. Some children really don’t like being treated like kids. As a teenager, we are on the verge of independence, but still not quite there, it’s like when you get a test result back, you got a B, but just one more mark would have got you that A, but you still have to wait until you are tested again. At fifteen, you can almost leave school, at sixteen you can almost drive, and it becomes irritating when you’re so close, but you still have to confirm all these rules, and it seems like you just have to wait a little bit longer, but one becomes impatient...

Juvenile Crime

...Article Nov 3, 2014 CJA/204 Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Crime INTRODUCTION At a young age kids start to determine their fate. In this world children play a game of follow the leader or monkey see monkey do. Children either want to grow up to be someone important or someone who’s not so important. They go to school or drop out depending on different situations. Juvenile delinquency affects communities, schools, and homes. This article will give the reader an understanding of children who choose to follow the wrong crowd and become one of the statistics of the juvenile courts system. DELIQUENCY AND STATUS OFFENCE DEFINITION Juvenile delinquency can become complicated because of age limitations and the laws that the justice system has to deal with for children of such a young age. Delinquency is a behavior of a delinquent child, a child who has violated the law ("Juveniles And Age Status Offenses", n.d). If committed by an adult age they would then be called criminal. Children who have not been disciplined well they are beyond parental control. Children display these actions towards adults, teachers, and anyone with authority. Some children decide to act out because of neglect. Neglect is when a child is not being taken care of properly by parents or guardians. Status offences involve the conduct that would not be a crime if committed by an adult. Actions committed are considered to be a violation of the law because of the age of the child and their status...

Juvenile in the Adult Prison

...Delinquency December 3, 2014 Juveniles in The Adult Prison Children as young as 14 years old have been tried as adults and are sentenced to die in prison without considering their age and the factors that led the individual to commit the offense. Society believes that a juvenile should be tried as an adult because it will help them understand the consequences of their actions, however, children and teenagers that commit crimes are too young and they don’t have the mental ability to understand the consequences of their actions. These juveniles are not aware of what they are going to face behind the adult’s prison bars. According to the National Juvenile Justice Network, it states, “ 200,000 youths are tried, sentenced, or incarcerated as adults every year across the United States.” Studies have shown that juveniles that are sentenced to adult prisons are more likely to commit crimes again after being released from prison. Juveniles are more likely to be sexually assaulted, abuse, neglect, suicidal, and depressed in adult prisons. The adult prison has shown failures to rehabilitate these juveniles. Laws like the Felony Murder rule has to shown to be cruel and unusual punishments towards teenagers and children. Society does not bothered to look into factors such as the juvenile’s brain, mental disability, and their living environment that causes them to commit the crime. “Children are five times more likely to be sexually assaulted in the adult prisons than in juvenile facilities,” according...

Explain Why Juveniles Should Not Be Tried As Adults

...When a child commits a crime do they instantly become an adult? Do they continue with the innocuousness of childhood, despite the gravity of his or her actions? Nearly three thousand juveniles have been sentenced to life of imprisonment with no chance of parole (children in prison). Typically without any consideration of their home life, age, or background. This is cruel, wicked, sad, and barbarous. Juveniles should not be tried as adults because, everyone deserves a second chance, the adolescent brain is not fully developed until the age of twenty-five, and children are fixable. Everyone deserves a second chance to make the right decisions and to try become a better person. Juveniles should be given the second chance to reflect on what they have done and not be put in a jail cell. They are just starting their lives, this will affect everything they strive to do. Trying to go to college, get a job, or start a family. A juvenile is a person who is under the age of eighteen, that is not enough time to even know who you are yet, to see your potential. Some of the kids that are being tried as an adult today aren't even old enough to drive, let alone start their high school careers. They are just little kids that have went down the wrong path and need some guidance. It is proven that...

Juvenile Crimes

...deviant while others have been forced into it. Petty crimes are becoming more common in today’s society, which is causing kids to have to go to more extremes to be deviant and thus resulting in more severe reactions to this behavior. The cause of juvenile violence is frequently related to one of two things; the child was exposed to violence when they were young or they are trying to fit into a deviant crowd. In 2008 approximately 10% of the children under 18 had been injured in an assault, 46% had been assaulted and 60% had been exposed to violence and/or crime. (Crime Solutions) Children who have been exposed to violence when they were young are more likely to commit crime when they are older. Children who were younger than 12 when they were exposed to the violence or crime are the most likely to commit crimes later in life. (United States Department of Justice) Children who face violence at home are also more likely to become a runaway, which makes it much easier to run into the wrong crowd. There is an increasing amount of children in abusive homes who end up trying to become vigilantes towards the abuser in order to make the abuse stop. A majority of female offenders had been either physically or sexually abused during their childhood. The second main cause of childhood crimes is the group in which the kid is trying to fit into. Kids in rougher neighborhoods may join gangs for protection and thus are exposed to crime and required to prove that they are worthy...

Postman's Analysis

...Once in awhile, I would think about how kids nowadays aren’t spending their childhood correctly; I view childhood as a time for fun and games. However, I had never considered the thought that childhood has become endangered. The idea that TV may really be making us into mindless blobs reminds me of all those times I asked students who I really looked up to, “how are you so smart?”, and they would annoyingly reply “I READ”. (As if I’ve never read a book in my life. Sheesh.) Postman proposes a practically perfect proposition that is backed by a number of legitimate points - ranging from clothes to food; many of which I can relate to; but there are a few assertions I find debatable and can’t identify with. For one, I wonder if Postman’s definition...

Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense Analysis

...Youth Sports Become Too Intense?," the issue of how intensity of sports can affect a child is debated. Participating in intense physical activity comes with it's obstacles. Though, as seen in the text, "Bored, frustrated, or lonely kids join our league and become dedicated, confident, self-disciplined athletes ready for the world beyond school," these sport commitments sound like a great idea. The benefits of competitive youth sports are worth the drawbacks because it gives children physical activity and teaches them important life skills like teamwork and decision making. Competition is healthy and effects a student into great decision making in the future. Such as getting good grades. They are also less likely to get involved in gangs, drugs, and alcohol abuse. This intensity can come with failure and let downs, but being able to, "...ignore naysayers is key to success." The text states, "Picking themselves up after a bad play and ignoring the teasing make kids better players and stronger people." These are life skills that no child should be unaware of for the future. Just by doing these sports, it trains children’s physical and mental health that is important for future success....
