...#1 1/20 2014 The Reason Why I Am Attending College The reason for attending college are probably just like everyone else’s. I went to college because I wanted a better life for myself. I’d like to find a job and have a wonderful life. I am an international student majoring in dance from Taiwan. My country’s dance doesn’t have a chance to be appreciated, so I tried and moved to another country, which its dance is famous, and appreciate on international. My plan is to graduate from college and receive diploma so that I can enter a famous dance company or get a job about dancing, and that’s why I am attending college, even more than is the main reason why I am attending college. The second reason was that I wanted to get a better education more that high school. If I am the boss of the company, I won’t hire the people who just have high school diploma. My final reason is that I wanted to have college experience. I was glad that I can enter the college, so why I don’t take it and enjoy the real college’s life. The high school experience can’t satisfy me, and this is my chance, and I want to take it. My main reason to attend college is for getting a better life. Everyone knows that the dancer is not easy to make more money unless he or she has higher academic degree. I heard foreign career of dancer would have more chance to show myself and be appreciated. Thus, after I graduated from my high school, I move to America and started studying my college in dance division. Fortunately...

...College Essay Most college scholarships ask you to write a 500+ word essay, which isn’t that bad, but what is the reason behind it? Do most people that require an essay ever read them? Seriously, who has time to read a 1000+ word essay and chose from the best. Personally, that doesn’t seem to be fair because most people have trouble writing a paragraph, and then we are expected to write a huge essay telling about something in our life or respond to a weird question with a topic that most people won’t even think about. With topics such as, “Explain how your life changed with a death of a parent,”or “How would college affect your career,” or even “Why I deserve this scholarship.” Well, I’m going to explain everything I possibly can. The death of any parent would make anyone change, because no one is the same; we are all unique. With my dad’s death I didn’t know how to act for the longest time, and I still don’t; I say this because the day my father died, the doctor called all of my family back where he lay, hooked up to life support, lifeless. Just looking at his body, I didn't feel anything; however, I looked at the situation as is he wasn’t really dead because I was 12 and didn’t know...

...In most community colleges, students are often confused with their major whether they are just beginning courses or even graduating. They tend to start their classes, but eventually dropping out due to them not seeing a clear vision or pathway for themselves. Guided Pathways is a path for college students to plan out a step-by-step guidance to graduate courses on time and save students some extra cash, eventually helping their futures and success. Guided Pathways are trying to solve these problems, but along with it — there is a fair amount of issues, such as courses being a waste of time, social status, money, and privacy. This program has a great amount of qualities, but lacks improvement. Although Guided Pathways is mapping out the steps...

...Should College Athletes be Paid? Why should college athletes be paid or not? In this article it says, “Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year in TV and marketing contracts, tickets sales, and merchandising.” Why I choose this topic is because If the college players don't bring any money for the TV , tickets, and merchandising then that is wrong. They should, at least, have 10% of what they sell that has the player's last name on it .I am on the pro side why I am is because If a person buys an item that has something to do with them, then they should be paid a little amount of what the regular price is of the item. I am going to tell you a few Pros about college players getting paid. First of all, in the text it says, “ Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year.” My question is how does the franchise make billions a year. They make billions a year from the players who, when the games and consistently bowl games and don't even bring a little bit poor because people consider they are amateurs and they will do something poor with the money like use it on things that...

... 2014 HMD 253 Throughout my process of deciding which college to attend, I looked at various reasons why and why not to attend at certain universities. The dining commons, the professors, the level of the school, requirements, majors, etc. were all reasons that I took into consideration in picking the school that I wanted to attend. I decided to go to UNLV for the reason that it was in state and it would be cheaper for me and to be part of their Hospitality program. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Harrah Hotel College is one of the best schools in the United States for hospitality for many reasons; however, it also has its negatives. I have been part of the Harrah Hotel College for 3 years and I have had tremendous experiences and disappointing ones as well. I completely understand that all schools have problems and can’t always be perfect, but there are problems with UNLV and its hotel college that aren’t tolerable. Aside from the negatives throughout the hotel college, it definitely also has its positive, which makes it one of the top schools for hospitality. One of the negatives that I feel like the Hotel College has is the amount of requirements that one has to complete in order to graduate. Aside from all our core classes, every hotel student also has to complete an internship, which also requires for you to a class with it and also 1000 hours work experience apart from the internship. The hotel college is the only school on campus that requires us to complete...

...Why Did I Enroll in College I often ask myself why. Why did you decide to go to college? Well first off, I have just started my family. So therefore, I am going to need to get my future set straight in order to support this family. What better way than to enroll in college? In this essay I will briefly explain why I enrolled in college. Also, the qualities I need to use in order to be successful in college. Qualities that I am going to use will definitely give me nothing but the best, and me personally I strive for the best. While in college I would love to gain the most out of it. The last thing I plan on talking about is certain obstacles I will have to overcome in order to be successful in receiving my degree. Why did I enroll in college? My reasons for enrolling in college are pretty simple. First things first, I really want to work towards getting my degree and become a teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. Honestly I don’t know what made me want to become a teacher, but it has stuck with me since I first decided what I wanted to be. I have the up-most respect for teachers, due to the fact that they put up with so much from students. So I believe I need to put forth the effort and take over for someone who is ready to get out of the teaching life. Another reason I decided to enroll in college, I really want to experience new things. This is a never ending issue; I am the type of person who constantly wants to experience something new. I joined the military...

...purpose for attending College? Ever since I have been attending college all I hear is all my professors ask, why we are attending college? I have thought about it really well. At first I was attending college to please my parents. Then I had a baby and as she is growing and time passes by I see that economically everything is going up. In reality I know why I am attending college. I am in college to improve my economic status, be an example for my children, and to achieve my life goal of being a petroleum engineer. As I was growing up, I seen my parents struggle in paying bills. At times we would have our light cut off and be running extension wires from our neighbor home to ours in order to manage, until we had the money for the bill. I also recall asking for things and my mother saying, Sorry sweaty we don’t have enough or we can’t afford it. Now that I am a father myself, I don’t want my children to feel the burden I felt just because my parents weren’t financially stable. Don’t get me wrong I had a wonderful child hood but there were moments that I wish I could have a certain object. I just would like to provide for my children and still have a little extra in my pocket just in case of any financial instability or purpose. The second reason I am attending college is to be a great example for my children. Neither my father nor mother attended College or graduated for High school. So far I am the only one who has graduated from high school and I want to be able to graduate...

...assessment Do you think college is a privilege or a necessity? Well today in our society college is not an option anymore more like a necessity. “College may be worth it to some people, but the majority of the people that haven't even stepped foot into a college are doing better that the people that have gone to college for a masters degree.” stated in the article(Is college worth it?) by . Just because your parents and family expect you to go to college and get a degree doesn't really mean you have to, unless you think it's the right thing to do. Parents Know a days expect their child or student to go to college, So it is more like pressured/forced then actually expecting or wanting to do it. Going to college and getting a degree does not necessarily guarantee that an individual is gonna get a good hard working job afterwards. But it's all up to the person and what they want to achieve in life. Personally college is something i might look forward to in life but just seem like i can do my dream job without so i'm not too worried. There are valid arguments for both sides....

...to our attention within the last few decades. Since going to college, I have realized one of the biggest social issues and index offenses surrounding me…rape. The definition of rape is unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception. It is charged as a criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. Rape occurs when consent is not given and physical force is possibly used,...

...Why college education is important to me. Why college education is important to me is so I can further my career, to be a better role model for my children and to ultimately make more money over the course of my career. First, to further my career, It’s like Forest Gump said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get.’ ‘Your career is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re going to get.’ ‘But everything you get is going to teach you something along the way and make you the person you are today. That’s the exciting part - it’s an adventure in itself.’ “Nick Carter”. With a competitive job marked out there these days, I took a long look in the mirror and asked myself how was I going to get a better job, make more money and just provide my family with a better way of life with just a high school diploma, there was only one possible and logical answer. I needed to go back to college to further my education and ultimately my career. Second, to be a better role model for my children, to be a better role model reminds me of a quote that I once read. “If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person’s life in a positive light, and that’s...

...Why College is Important to Me “The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance,”1 said a famous historical philosopher named Socrates. Having a college education is such an important part of my life. It provides the opportunity to gain a higher knowledge into the field that I am working towards. I personally fell that having a college degree earns you a certain respect and not only for that, I feel you gain feelings of higher self-respect. I’m setting the standards higher for myself. When you look for a job, one of the requirements you see often is a college degree. That higher education means higher success in life. You walk into that interview with higher confidence as you worked so hard at obtaining that degree that is going to be the foundation for the success of your life. You know what you are doing. You believe that the employer you are interviewing with will see all your hard work and see that you have the experience to earn the position that you are applying for. You will be seen as the concrete asset to the company in which you want to work with. Employers see college education as experience and experience leads to a better job. College education is like training for the job. You are training yourself for the success of your life. You are openings up yourself to opportunities that you would have if you didn’t have a college education. Wouldn’t you want to work for a job that you have chosen and not one that you have to do? A college education...

...I never thought that I would ever come across an article on one of the biggest crisis that us students are currently suffer from. I see great topics and different views from both articles. I also see that neither articles states anything about the president signing a bill that gives students the right to go to college for free. As I compare the two articles based on expensive college tuition, "The Real Reason College Tuition Cost So Much" by Paul F. Camposapril and " The Tuition Is Too Damn High, Part lll" by Dylan Mathews. Paul F.C. does further research in and states a lot of facts that i never would have thought of. First he says that the issue is not with the colleges but rather with the actual state. The state funding has come to a...

...Mario Talavera English 1A Often times we see articles on the internet about college education and how important it is to get one, what are the majors that are most likely to give you the higher paycheck, degrees with the higher and lower unemployment rate, we see degrees that will give you a better chance to pay back all of the loans at the end of graduation, but also the ones the are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Reading all these reports online can either help you or make it even more difficult to decide for the type of degree you want to go for, some students prefer to go for careers that will give them the most money over following their real passion, only because they feel they have better chances of having more success and financial stability, but there’s one thing that a lot of people can agree on, that getting a college education can increase your chances at success and you’re more likely to achieve excellence and grow at any type of job. But what is success or how do we define it ? Sucesss can have various different meanings according to people, to some it may mean going to the college of their dreams and eventually getting that “perfect” job that they’ve always wanted, driving a fancy car and being able to go on vacation every year, and not having to worry about paying bills because you make enough money to cover those expenses. While for other people, success just means maybe getting married and having your own house, waking up every morning...
