I believe that murder is wrong because it robs someone of their life and all life is precious. Most murders are committed out of revenge. Murders are driven by the hated they feel towards their victim that they rob a victim of something they can never get back, their life. However, not all murders are committed by criminals. There are approximately 125,000 abortions a day, that is 125,000 babies who no longer have a chance for a future. Though some people do not believe that abortion is murder, the fact is that the baby was alive and its life was taken from it, even if it is considered legal. The victim is not the only one affected by a murder. Everyone who knew the victim, such as family, friends, and even neighbors are also affected by the

Relativism and Morality

...article, “Some Moral Minima” by Lenn E. Goodman, he expresses his views about situations that he feels that are wrong. He explains and argues the wrong in murder, terrorism, hostages, slavery, rape, polygamy, and incest. He provides detailed examples of why he believes these things are wrong. I agree with him on these issues that are proven to be wrong morally. I do not believe that any one should take advantage of another person in any way i.e. discriminating or taking their life because it is unmoral in my opinion. One of the main points that the author wrote about was murder. Murder is a wrong and unmoral act and I do not feel any individual should have the right to end someone’s life for no reason at all or even if there is a reason. Who has the right to take a life? Goodman states “Murder is wrong because it destroys a human subject”. (pg.88 par.9) In Genesis 9:6 the Bible states “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed” and the only time I feel someone should be killed is if they are in the process of harming another individual’s life or if they have taken someone’s life. For example, if a person is in danger it should be a giving right for them to defend themselves and if someone kills another person they should be persecuted and put to death. In his article one of the types of murders he talked about was genocide. Genocide is type of murder that targets individuals as members of a group, seeking to destroy a race, a culture, a linguistic or ethnic...

Why Abortion Is Wrong

...Abortion is wrong Abortion is wrong. There are many reasons as to why it is wrong. Abortion is murdering a human embryo. If abortion is legal then why isn’t murder? It is both the same in a way. Abortion is a safe procedure but can also be fatal and dangerous if not done professionally. Murder is illegal so I think abortion should be too. It’s taking innocent lives away and it’s cruel. Many people also think the human embryo isn’t a human because it hasn’t been born yet. Many people think abortion is okay and do not think it’s hurting anyone or killing a human being, but there is good supporting information stating that abortion is wrong and why. Abortion is the killing of an unborn human being. The United States government considers unborn...

The Death Penalty

...The Death Penalty The death penalty has been the cause of much debate for hundreds of years. Taking the life of a person for committing terrible crimes, specifically murder, puts doubt into the minds of many. Some may ask: Why would we kill people to show that killing is wrong? Well, there are a few specific reasons that can clearly show why the death penalty is a necessary punishment. Overall, capital punishment is morally justified, protects society from dangerous people, and is an effective deterrent to crime. Some would argue that the death penalty is not morally justified. I do not believe that this is a strong argument in many cases. Morality is defined as the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior. Normally, people are praised for good behavior, and punished for bad behavior. Punishments, specifically by the law, can be anything from a fine, to time in prison, and even death in some cases. Opponents of capital punishment say that it is completely wrong to kill someone as a punishment for murder. If it is for the protection of innocent lives though, then why is there such opposition against it? Casey Carmical, a professional translator who writes about current social and political issues, said, “Executing murderers, however, prevents them from committing their crime again, and thus protects innocent victims. The good, therefore, outweighs the bad, and the executioner is morally justified in taking the murderers life.” This statement is very true...

Mind over Matter

...The person moods, feeling and their ability to relate others are affected as well. A person that is mentally insane/criminally insane is able to tell the difference between right and wrong when it comes to their actions. The reason why the McNaughten rule cannot be used to defend a person who drinks and the commit murder is because the McNaughten sates that the person that commits murder does not know right from wrong, but a person that drinks alcohol and then commits murder does know what is right and what is wrong. Rational is when the person that committed murder is in their right mind before and after the committing the murder. Guilty is the person was in the right mind and committed the murder even though he/she knew what they were doing was wrong, but when a head and committed the murder. Not guilty by reason of insanity is that the person was not in their right mind when he or she committed the murder, so all charges that was filed against the person was excused. As for Guilty but insane is when a person is found guilty of committing murder, but does not do any prison time, instead they are sentence to a mental hospital in order to get help. Even of the person does or does not understand what he or she did. * * I would rule that he is Guilty but insane because he committed the murder, but also he suffers from schizophrenia. Arguement of Fact

...executed under capital punishment, but what makes it right? Many people argue that capital punishment is well deserved to some of the criminals we see in the old today. "There are some defendants who have earned the ultimate punishment our society has to offer by committing murder with aggravating circumstances present. I believe life is sacred. It cheapens the life of an innocent murder victim to say that society has no right to keep the murderer from ever killing again. In my view, society has not only the right, but the duty to act in self defense to protect the innocent" says a New York Attorney. Many people agree with him as well. They feel that if someone feels like its ok to take anthers life then their life can be taken as well for punishment. People also feel that they pay for what these criminals do. To hold an inmate in prison, on death row or not, its about $30,600 per year that comes straight out of our taxes. So in reality people feel that we pay for the mistakes of these criminals when some of them should be held to capital punishment for the crimes that they have committed. People also believe that in the long run the death penalty helps saves innocent lives. Repeat murders from the same killer are very common when the criminal is not sentenced to life or death in prison. Finally people argue that the death penalty is needed for closure for the friends and families of the murdered. They deserve to have justice brought to the criminal...

Abortion

...A baby heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy; therefore, that would make abortion murder. The baby that is growing inside of the woman is depending on her, so when she makes the choice to end that baby's life; they are making the choice to murder another person. Someone that believes in the pro-choice theory would say that the decision is up to the woman, but the person with the pro-life theory would say that it is murder no matter what the situation. Most people consider it murder to kill a baby the day after it is born. Then why would it not be murder to kill it before it is born? There are many abortions performed each year in the United States. Seventy-five percent of all abortions in the U.S. are performed on women over twenty years of age, but the lawmakers try to concentrate on the 186,000 teens that have an abortion each year. In 1990, there were nearly 400 abortion bills were that were introduced to forty-one legislatures. So far, as many as twenty states have passed a law that requires a teenager to have parents consent before having an abortion. This may help reduce the number of abortions each year. The people that passed these bills feel that maybe the parents will feel differently about the situation and be able to talk their child out of it. Twenty percent of teens that are sexually active do not use any form of birth control. These are the teens that end up getting pregnant and getting an abortion. If these girls would use some kind...

The Case of Tracy Latimer

...Ethics Paper Summer 2013 Murder, the word sounds very ominous. When one thinks of murder they tend to be morally outraged. Morality, now that word sounds like a very simple concept. Unfortunately it is not simple when dealing with the concept of right and wrong because there are many separate and different ways to view morality. And as such murder at times is not always murder but could be defined as mercy. In the case of a 12 year old child name Tracy Latimer the concept of morality and murder become even murkier. Within this essay I am going to attempt to describe, evaluate and critically lay out both sides of morality in reference to this action of depraved murder verse mercy killing, of a handicapped child. Tracy Latimer was a 12 year old child who unfortunately was born with cerebral palsy. Because of her condition Tracy weighed just under 40 pounds, had the mentality of a three month old infant, and was subjected to countless surgeries. In 1993 Tracy’s father, Robert Latimer carried his daughter out of their house and placed her in the cab of his truck where he then proceeded to intentionally fill the cab of the truck with exhaust fumes until his daughter was dead. In lemans terms he poisoned his child with exposure to carbon monoxide. Viewing this from an ethical standpoint of morals, we now have to question if Mr. Latimer was morally justified for his actions or not. Was this a condonable mercy killing or was it cold blooded murder? In the argument of whether...

David Bruck's Arguments Against The Death Penalty

...“Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him..” a quote from the Bible, Leviticus 24:20. It is kind of ironic how people would argue that the death penalty is going against the the Bible’s moral code of “Thou Shalt Not Commit Murder,” one of the the Ten Commandments in the Bible, when the Bible also encourages justice for those who has been done wrong. The death penalty is a form of punishment against criminals who committed a crime so wrong, the only way of justice would be sentenced to death. Many would argue that this form of punishment is morally wrong. It is true that execution may be considered as a form of murder too, but the intentions of the execution is not as...

Abortion

...“Pro-choice Abortion” Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is immoral and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” 1 These pro-life believers do not support the idea of induced abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staffs. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions1. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice. Pro-choice believers support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. As an example; a woman is raped by a man and becomes pregnant with his child. She decides she doesn’t want to keep the baby; she has an abortion because the idea of raising a child of her rapist is too painful for her to cope with. Pro-choice defenders take sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro-life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of the choice she has made about her own body. That’s what pro-life supports. Often time’s situations like this turns into harassment which can be considered to be part of anti-abortion violence1...

...having an abortion is when my mom had one in 2000. She said that she was not ready to raise other child at this moment in her life, because she just moved to North Carolina and was looking for a job. She felt no guilt about what she has done she thought it was the right thing to do at this point in her life. Most people would argue that abortion is not only wrong, but it is murder to an innocent child with no fault of its own. The first reason that abortion should be illegal because it is murder! For example, the fetus is a distinct individual therefore its DNA is completely its own while the baby is in the womb the baby will show definite signs of emotion. I think that when a human egg and a human sperm meet, the resulting individual is simply human. The number of American babies killed by abortion each year is roughly equal to the number of U.S. military deaths. My next example why I think that abortion is murder is because the child did nothing to deserve to be killed. I think that if a mother did not want the child she should have give the child up for adoption instead of killing it. My last reason that abortion is murder is because the fetus is a human it is just in its...

Reasons Why The Death Penalty Is Wrong

...paper I will be talking about if the death penalty is wrong or if it is ok to take away someone's life, and I will also be talking about why we even started the death penalty. In my own opinion I believe that the death penalty is wrong and a few reasons why it is wrong. The people who would normally get the death penalty are the people who take others life. Also, in some states if you rape a child you could get the death penalty. Now, a few reasons why the death penalty is wrong is because it is still taking away someone’s life. If you are killing that person who took away someone else's life means that you are no better than them. The only difference there is between the killer and they person who is killing the killer is, the person who is going to kill the person in the chair has the judge knowing they are doing it, whoever the person in the chair families knows you are doing it. No matter what it is still wrong and you are still taking away someone’s life....
