Amazon is a company that most people have used to do online shopping. If they have not used it, they have at least heard of. Starting off Amazon was a book retailer. Now, it provides on line shopping where you can purchase new or used items of all sorts. Amazon has made substantial changes in its structure to keep up with change in the sales market. In the past, the company has focused its attention on becoming the number one internet retailer. They have beyond reached that goal. That is until Google and Microsoft changed their infrastructure and have taken over the spot.

Amazon has decided to come up with a change in their infrastructure, by offering different services. These services include Simple Storage System (S3) which charges companies per gigabyte to store their data and applications. Another service Amazon provides is called Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). With an EC2, processing power is rented out per hour for the equivalent of a basic server. Amazon is looking to expand their horizons to provide a much larger network and more options for the growth of their company.

Providing these services to other companies is a way for the company to grow. However, there are possibilities of many errors. With information being passed from one organization to others through their site, there are possibilities of database errors. To eliminate this possibility, Amazon has created different entities within the system that have specialties that can eliminate mistakes. If they can get this to work as they plan, they have a possibility of becoming the next Google. Some believe that straying from its path is strictly online shopping; they are going to damage the company. However there are those that believe if they can provide these services, along with making the web site more organized they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the constant changing IT

Week 2 Checkpoint

...Week 2 Checkpoint/Organizational Data and Information Daniel Barr XBIS/219 July 6, 2012 Shawn Rieder Week 2 Checkpoint/Organizational Data and Information Based on the information located on the BIRT Sample Database website, the software allows the user the ability to track many aspects of the defined business. It includes eight different tables. Offices, employees, customers, orders, order details, payments, products, and product lines. By using this software program the user can generate reports based on the data entered. The website also includes an ER-diagram which shows the different departments or types of data and how they are tied to other departments. The software allows for data to be entered by multiple sources, such as different stores and incorporates that data and combines that information to give the company a better picture of the entire company. Of course, information generated by data entry is only as good as the data entered. It is critical that companies train employees to correctly enter data into the system. Incorrect data entered into the system will generate reports that will not be accurate. There are several options available for companies. One option would be to purchase software for data management. Another option which is steadily growing is hiring a firm to store your data as well as manage the data as well. Problems at Jetblue

...Problems at JetBlue 1.27.12 XBIS 219 Axia College of Univeristy of Phoneix In the case of JetBlue, I believe a combination of both the management and the technological part of the company was the main cause of the meltdown. In any airport that you visit today, there are systems that log all of your information. However, I think the management staff and the technical staff were at fault when this crisis was happening. With the managerial perspective, I feel that they did not train the workers properly on how to deal with a crisis like the one they dealt with. I would have thought that they would do more to commidate the passengers to reschedule their flights. I also think that the management staff would have worked harder to help the passengers locate their bags. The technical perspective is that the workers did not have a data base to work from. All of their information was written down on paper. If the airport had a computer with a system that they could log the passengers, their number of bags, and their information it would have went more smoothly. There are many problems that went wrong with the JetBlue Airport. The main problems that I would deal with and change would be the system and the cross training. Even though any business does not plan on having any crisis at any time. All businesses should be aware of how to handle the dilemias. If I were a part of the management team I would install digital dashboards with every desk associate. I would have reschedule...

There is live music during the weekends and a hired DJ during the week. The club has a lot going on for itself drawing the younger crowd out every week. These owners strive to make there business a success by always making there club a hangout for there community. The owners are moving into the right direction by taking advantage of the e-commerce activites to help there business stay ahead in this competitive market. Although the club is doing well, both Lisa and Ruben as owners could use a little help in there IT department. This is where I come in to help analyze what Lisa and Rueben already have to make their business run more effieiciently. 2. Information Technology Infrastructure The role of information technology infrastructure is to implement organization and to help produce and store pertnant information. I noticed that the owners have a dial-up connection which means that most if not all of the club’s business is done on a network. Lisa and Ruben use a Pentium...

...Club IT, Part 2 XBIS/219 March 18, 2012 Club IT, Part 2 Club IT is a hip and trendy downtown music venue developed by Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada (Rainer, 2009). Club IT is a social club that offers live music entertainment along with food and beverages. Club IT’s mission statement defines the nature of the business and the delivery of goods, products and services to its consumers. The owners of Club IT mission statement are “We, Ruben and Lisa, offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle. You are our friends, and we seek to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT” (Wiley Higher Education, 2011). Club IT is a social gathering place that combines the love of music, entertainment and friendship. Club IT provides a range of live music and DJs. The clientele they want to attract is more on the sociable, dancing, and music listening crowd. The project method that I would use for system analysis would be agile development. Three business problems of Club IT would be the slow Internet system, which is, dial up, expand their selections on their food menus, and adding more activities within the facilities for the patrons. Dial up is a very slow Internet system, which needs to be upgraded by Club IT. The Club will benefit by upgrading to a high speed Internet service to better accommodate their guest. It would be very convenient to the customer if they can use Wi-Fi. This will make a huge difference when the...

Club It Part 2

...Club IT Part 2 Jimmy Davis January 20, 2012 XBIS/219 Michael Peterson When it comes to Club IT the company is constantly growing and is becoming the spot in the town for everybody to be at, especially if you want to have fun and enjoy yourself everyone is having a good time and enjoying themself. The owners and executive Ruben and Lisa are very excited for how their business has grown but even though they is excited of their business they are ready to make a few changes with their business and information systems. After Ruben and Lisa have stayed at the club a few times and have been watching how their business is being operated as they get ready to shut down, they had come up with a few problems. The owners came to assumptions about their company that in order to keep it up that the computer hardware and internet service really needs to be upgraded. Even if they do one at a time it is only right if they bring the tools up to date so they can be able to keep the business a success. I also think that if they keep a more efficient system of how to track customer orders and handle their inventory as needed since the clubs has a big popularity and is constantly growing by the weeks just imagine if they upgrade everything the money they spent on the item to upgrade will pay for itself. Another issue is that Ruben ad Lisa are not taken advantage of participating in e-commerce promote the club online do whatever it takes to...

Business

...More than ever before, information systems are an integral part of today’s business environment. These resources which comprise all hardware, software, data, and networks within an organization are used and accessed by all major functions within a company. As the backbone for the multitude of tasks, activities, and information needed each day, this information must be maintained and managed properly so the company utilizes every resource available to meet their goals and objectives, (Rainer & Turban, 2009). Two departments that depend heavily on the information systems within a company are the finance and marketing departments. While the functions in each department are independent of each other, the information collected company-wide is used by both departments to achieve a competitive advantage in the marketplace. These information systems allow managers to make better decisions and plan more efficiently and effectively throughout the entire organization, (Rainer & Turban, 2009). The information systems used by the finance department allow the company to monitor other financial markets and provide measurable data which can be analyzed by many functional areas within an organization. This information contains both historical and current financial activity and can be used to monitor and control how funds are being used and to project future financial requirements of the company, (Bartholome, 2001). In the fast paced and every changing marketing world, the information...

...Club IT, Part 2 Christine Crittenden XBIS/219 May 12, 2013 Kimberly Wheeler Club IT, Part 2 Club IT, for the most part, is known as successful nightclub establishment that guarantee customers a fun night out on the town. Ruben and Lisa have done a superior job ensuring their business, staff and customers are well satisfied and entertained. Club IT offers a high-energy, high-impacted atmosphere with bands/DJ; refreshments, dance floors, and club merchandise that members can receive discounts for; each of which has proven to win over the clientele they frequently draw in. One would think that is enough to be a successful running business, but there is always room to improve and better your business no matter how well it may seem to be doing. That said both Ruben and Lisa, for the most part, are satisfied with their nightclub, but they feel there is still room for improvement with the information technology they are currently using. As their intern, to help analysis their resources, I strongly agree with their concern pertaining to the information technology that Club IT currently uses. That in mind, I have suggested that they think about implementing a new methodology toward acquiring the best resources that will contribute and enhance the technology used to operate Club ITs information systems. After taking into consideration the different types of methodologies I am familiar with, I felt that the implementation of an Agile Development method would better assist...

Club It Part 3

...Club IT, Part 3 Student Name Axia College of University of Phoenix XBIS 219 Instructor Date Opened in 2005, Club IT has enjoyed success in a business, nightclub, where many fail. This is mostly because of the experience of the owners, Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada. Both Keys and Tejada graduated from college with degrees in Business Administration and during college they both worked in numerous nightclubs as musicians while attending college. Entertainment at Club IT is all music related with live bands on the weekends and a live DJ on the weekdays. Club IT's customers are mostly tech knowledgeable young adults. Smart phones, tablets, and other forms of wireless communications are part of their everyday lives and they are just as likely to shop online as they are to shop at a brick and mortar business. (Appendix D, n.d.) Also, their customers are frequent visitors to social media sites like Facebook and Youtube. Even though the owners have experience their success is impressive because their information systems are either non existent or out of date. The primary goal of information systems is to process data into information and knowledge. Data is raw information that has not been organized or analyzed. Once data has been organized so it has meaning and value it becomes information. Data and knowledge that has been processed to convey understanding, experience, accumulated learning, and expertise as they apply to a business-related problem is considered knowledge...

...Final Project: Club IT – Part 3 XBIS/219   Final Project: Club IT - Part 3 Introduction From day one, the assignment given by Ruben and Lisa has been overwhelming, but fun. The excitement is getting to know the staff, their duties, and to watch them work a full house, as well as entertaining friends at Club IT. The overwhelming part is all the information and ideas that needs integrated and implemented into this club. As an intern hired to complete the needs of Club IT, the major focus is helping Ruben and Lisa expand, maintain, and continue to build its client list. Club IT is a nightclub of music and dance. Ruben Keys, a drummer and Lisa Tejada, a jazz violinist, both graduates with Business Administration degrees, decided to own and operate a nightclub ("Club It", 2000-2013). They have come to realize that running a business goes beyond having degrees and physical experience with nightclubs. Ruben and Lisa have discovered that there is a need for business information systems, more in the realm of full analysis of their information needs. This technology plan will give more insight and focus on what it takes for Club IT to get to the level of competitiveness in their market, the integration of customer relations management software and open-source software applications with their current systems, and a financial projection overview giving cost analysis, productive areas, and growth.
