...In: Business and Management Internet Privacy Internet Privacy Deborah Elser XBIS/219 BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS March 31, 2010 Veronica Sims My expectations for Internet privacy differ greatly depending on where I am using the Internet. When at home, I know who is using my computer and who has access to the Internet. When I am on the Internet, I use what I believe to be secure websites. I pay my bills online and use the various companies secure sites. I expect these companies to use my information that I provide to pay the bill and for nothing else. I have not allowed these companies to take my information and sell it. These company sites guarantee that my information is protected. I do not open e-mails from unknown senders and I do not go to questionable sites. I have security measures in place on my computer; firewalls and antivirus software that I update regularly. My administrative laptop that I use at work is for work related e-mails and Internet use only. My expectations for Internet privacy on-the-job are strictly work related. I know that I do not go outside of the parameters, so there is no problem. I know that my email account for work is protected, as I work, indirectly, for a government agency. I do not use library computers or go to Wi-Fi zones, but if I did, I would know to be careful and only access sites that I know are secure. I also would not be free with my personal information. I personally, do not trust using these public computers...

...Checkpoint: Meltdown at Jet Blue March 8, 2012 Amir Herschberg This checkpoint will describe the meltdown at Jet Blue, my thoughts on the issues and what I would have done differently. Until Valentine’s Day of 2007 Jet Blue was a success story, but with the occurrence of that storm it showed Jet Blues true colors and unveiled their horrible and outdated IT systems. What happened was simply this Jet Blue managers kept their planes full of customers on the tarmac in hopes to wait out the storm. The storm had other plans, after 11 hours of waiting on the planes customers were bused to their terminals which were filled with other irate customers. Jet Blues melt down and IT happened right after that. Here is what happened, the customers wanted to obviously want to change their flight but could not because Jet Blue didn’t offer that feature unless the customer called customer service. So that is exactly what they did but Jet Blue didn’t have an adequate enough system or staff to handle the call load. Furthermore Jet Blue didn’t have a luggage tracking system this caused even more problems for the customers the staff and Jet Blue. This is a great example of not upgrading an IT system to accommodate stakeholders and being more focused on the present not the future and how IT can help. This meltdown cost Jet Blue over thirty million dollars and a CEO, but it also forced them to make the changes that they so desperately needed...

...Week Six Checkpoint – Systems Development Life Cycle Richard Adams XBIS/219 June 10, 2011 Dr. Shawn Rieder Week Six Checkpoint – Systems Development Life Cycle The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is a traditional systems development method that many organizations use for large-scale IT Projects (Rainer & Turban, 2009). The SDLC has a defined structure made up of sequential processes consisting of well-defined tasks. The stages outlined in sequential order that make up the SDLC process are systems investigation, systems analysis, systems design, programming, testing, implementation, operation, and maintenance. Other models exist with the same flow similar to the SDLC structure, but contain either fewer or more steps. Systems investigation is the first stage of the SDLC process with the main task consisting of the feasibility study. According to Rainer and Turban (2009), the feasibility study allows an organization to decide if it should continue using an existing system unchanged, modify or enhance the existing system, or develop a new system. A good example of a system that an organization would conduct a feasibility study on would be an existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Batada & Rahman, 2011). Once complete, an organization must make a “Go-No-Go” decision and proceed from there. Systems design and systems analysis are the next sequential steps in the SDLC process (Rainer & Turban, 2009). The systems analysis stage...

Upstream Component (sourcing/procurement) Internal Component (packing/assembly manufacturing) Downstream Component (distribution) Hewlett-Packard is the primary partner used to transform the studio’s entire film production and distribution process to an all-digital, file-based system, and to create an information technology architecture to make this process possible. The studio has a film and digital version for all its films, which also includes all of the royality rights. This is refered to by Warner Bros. as its E-Master which are stored on servers at Warner Bros. Warner Bros. in 2006 produced more than 25,00 different DVEs and delivered more than 180 hours of video programming weekly through its global digital exchange. They also produced and distributed more than 50 television series and digitized more than 6,00 feature films in its storage vaults for DVD releases. The creation of the E-masters enables Warner to utilize any channel to reach the consumer including their website and most retailers. The company also has an online Web initiative that will enable fans of various cartoon shows such as Looney Tunes to download new, interactive content, related games, and flash animations of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and other popular characters. ...

...Warner Brothers Elvio Marcuzzi XBIS/219 Business Information System Due date: 01/11/2013 Instructor: Greg Kramer University of Phoenix Warner Brothers Considering the no-stop progress of technology, smart phones, pads, WiFi available in most of the public spaces, people depending everyday more from Internet; choosing the correct supply chain to success, is becoming a big challenge, but the direction to follow looks very clear. In North America 78, 9% of the population, with an increase of 153.5% in the last 10 years, is opening a window into the web; Internet should be the main Supply Chain a company should use. Upstream component, internal component and downstream component are the three digital content supply chains at Warner Brother, but where and how can the company improve the customer requests? Warner Brothers is one of the biggest and oldest names for films, television and music entertainment; for this reason the company grown up many years before the explosions of Internet and the today’s technology. When they realize that the customers demand and requests were becoming different, they started developing strategies to optimize the supply chain. I think that WB internal component supply chain have much more spaces of improvements. They did implement the digital end to end business to satisfy customer request, but is this enough? I would personally improve the marketing to find out what digital product clients would love to have and to use. DVD, Blu-ray...

...Problems At JetBlue Anthony Campbell XBIS219 April 27, 2012 Mickey Hendon Problems At JetBlue The problems JetBlue faced Valentines Day of 2007 was purely technological. Management followed their protocols as they were supposed to up to the point where federal regulations and safety provided the best solution. Now on the other hand, the other airlines cancelled their flights in preparation for the storm, yet JetBlue remained as to stay in accordance with their “at all cost” policy, which proved to costly but JetBlue’s customers surely find that a win in the plus section for those who favor that policy. Technology became the issue because when it was time to locate luggage, rebook, and compensate passengers for their troubles; JetBlue’s systems proved that it could not handle the large capacity of calls to their reservations system, the system could not track lost luggage, nor could JetBlue passengers get any assistance from kiosks or the website due to their lack of functionality since rebooking could not be done by those means. There is not much more that could have been done differently due to the fact that their technology could not perform under pressure situations other than shutting down when all other airlines did. However, More questions could have been asked in retrospect as to what their systems could and could not do and how much of a load that each system could handle, and what could be done in the event of an overload, and have a back up plan for such...

...PROBLEMS AT JETBLUE DEBATE Caroline Huyck XBIS219 FRI 09/14/2012 Katherine Escobar PROBLEMS AT JETBLUE DEBATE Jet Blue an airline company, which was started in the year 2000. The first couple of year’s jet blue was up in the running and where doing great capitalizing their company. But in 2006 Jet Blue took a great turn of events causing a down fall in their company. The reason for this downfall was that the managers at jet blue did not do a very good job while thinking things through to make sure this type of thing would not happen while in a disaster, many of the issues consisted to why JetBlue was shutdown. One of the first things that jet blue failed to do was to think ahead, they took their good fortunes in to belief that failure was not an option, but there was failure, one of the top issues was technology, but this was a managerial issue, and jet blue just did not have the technology to get proper help or train properly with such problems as lost luggage. If they had the proper technology they would have been able to keep track of the luggage that was lost. One of the many things you do not want to think about but yet look at is disaster when looking to achieve a great company, but part of this is the job of the managers , you need to think as well as plan ahead for such issues that might arise if a disaster was to arise, also with the managerial team is at fault for not having the information in the way of technology, If I was ahead of Jet Blue, or the owner...

...Amazon Evolution Amazon, the largest online retailer of goods started out as a simple website allowing consumers the ability to purchase on the Internet. Amazon started as an online bookstore before dot-com became popular using a distinct business model to become a solid industry. By collecting payment from consumers before paying their providers and refusing to move any inventory Amazon cut prices and made money through the interest they earned from what the consumers paid out. As quickly as Amazon could build distributing centers, they could become a center consumers used for selling and distributing products from their competitors (Stephen, 2011). By 2007, Amazon had spent 12 years and close to $2 billion building the infrastructure of one of the largest most reliable online stores in the world (Axia College, nd). As a result of these investments, Amazon has additional capacity. They took advantage of the opportunity and decided to provide n an attempt to capitalize on this excess capacity, Amazon decided to provide processing services and make this available to companies and individuals. Three of the services provided were Simple Storage Services (S3), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and the Mechanical Turk. S3 is an online storage system which charges the consumer a rate for the amount of data stored every month. EC2 rents provides its service at an hourly rate. Mechanical Turk uses the service and people to achieve these duties instead of using computers. The three services...

...XXXXXXXXX Business Information System/XBIS219 November 10, 2012 Robin Canale Analyze Club IT! Overview Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada met while attending undergrad and decided to partner together to make their goal happen, of owning a music venue. They both have degrees in Business Administration and have musical backgrounds. They made their dream happen in the downtown area of their city and decided to renovate the interior of their new club and name it Club IT. The Club not only has high ceilings and enhanced lighting but also is a 6000 square feet of space, with a 600 foot dance floor . The club has seating for 220 patrons and the type of music that will be playing is everything from techno, electronica, Hip-Hop and present different types of live shows. Although Lisa and Ruben are satisfied with their renovations, music, and menu they realize they need to focus on improving their information management system. They have hired me to develop and enhance their information technology, data management and decision-making capabilities and of course I have some ideas of my own which entail a VIP section for patrons who frequent Club IT on a regular basis. They have asked me to spend some time at the Club so that I can evaluate their current system and recommend a new and improved IT support system. Club IT Mission The mission of Ruben and Lisa’s dream is create an environment that will build a community around their Club, providing their clientele a relax atmosphere...

...Club IT Part 2 University of Phoenix XBIS/219 1/13/2012 Club IT Part 2 * After meeting with Lisa and Ruben, I came up with several ideas for Club IT to become more successful throughout. I researched several project development methodology that could bring Club IT to a whole new level as far as business and information technology. I was also able to give Lisa some suggestions on how to keep Club IT's edge as high energy and high impact as possible through club and public resources such as network applications (University of Phoenix, 2012). I have also identified three business problems at Club IT and plan on fixing those problems as soon as possible with my suggestions. The project method methodology that I have decided to go with for the company is rapid application development. I chose this methodology because it can combine a number of tools and user requirements such as prototyping and joint application design to rapidly produce a high quality system (Rainer & Turban, 2009). This methodology is important because it allows the users in the company to be involved from the start as well as speed up systems development. Three business problems at Club IT are the website, computer hardware, and Internet. These three problems are huge for Club IT because these problems are slowing Club IT's business down. By upgrading and fixing these problems, Club IT could be better than ever. Club IT's website has been a problem because the website lacks the same excitement...
