Personal Narrative: Osama Bin Laden

...Every time my family leaves the country, something happens, it’s always terrorists, good or bad. Like when my mom and dad were in Italy, 9/11 happened, or when we went on vacation to the Atlantis, they caught Osama Bin Laden. I’ll never forget this day. It was April 15, 2013. My mom, dad, brother Paul and I were boarding our flight out of the Beautiful Bahamas, to head back home to Boston. That day began as we expected. We woke up at our usual 8:30, went downstairs for the hotels breakfast, took one last walk around the resort and then we were off to Nassau airport to catch the flight. I fell asleep for the first 30 minutes of that flight, when at two something o’clock, my mom woke me with a tap on the shoulder. “Caroline. Caroline! Wake up! Turn on the news right now!” I woke up and grudgingly changed the channel of the airplane television, expecting to see something I had no interest in, like politics. What I saw was much different. I saw a street with some runners, onlookers and a massive explosion. I jolted out of my sleepy state and asked,...

The first reason the setting of the story affects the plot is how the Senator’s note in her office reveals the whole endemic in the mall. Abortion

...banned again, and are strongly considering it in some states; but they don’t even know there situation of the possibility that the woman’s physical health could be at a high risk, or the possibility that the women could have been raped by either a stranger or a family member, or that the child would be born with a severe disability. Back in 1982 my moms friend went to go get an abortion at a small family clinic in North Houston, because her life was on the line. They made her fill out regular outpatient forms, and she told me that one of the questions that was on there was “are you Catholic, and practice it on a weekly basis?” She checked that box, and once she was done filling out the form she turned it in. The women looked at her, and told her she needed to find another clinic to go to. she looked at her and said, but abortions are legal, and she said yes, you are right, but a small family owned clinic does not have to offer it to you, a hospital can’t reject you, but we can. And since you are catholic, we cannot accept you here, we don’t want catholic churches coming here and protesting, just because of you. my moms friend had a pregnancy complication called “ectopic...

Equilibrium In Rebecca Solni's Savage Dreams

...While events such as meteors hitting earth, catastrophic volcanic eruptions, and land shaping glaciation are all alter life and the earth in tremendous ways, the human species has yet to encounter one of these phenomena on a large scale. Regardless, the detonation of an atomic bomb is followed by a plague never before seen by life on earth: radiation. The physical detonation of the bombs did leave there scars on the earths crust and actually caused seismic waves which could be detected around the world, but the real mechanism behind this punctuated equilibrium was the radiation. While all life requires radiation to survive, heat and sunlight are forms of radiation; the star like conditions formed at the moment of detonated release over 150 different types of radioactive isotopes. Most of these isotopes had never been observed before, and thus scientists where unaware how the functioned, outside of there theoretical models. One of the postulates of punctuated equilibrium is that genetic mutations occur in offspring, which are not present in parents, yet are subsequently...

Lord of the Flies Essay

...Lord of the Flies Essay When you are young and immature, fear controls your every action. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the boys on the island experience irrational fears as a result of their immaturity and inexperience. The boys are afraid of what they cannot see. They are overwhelmed with the whole situation on the island and which is causing extreme fear within themselves. The boys are afraid of what they cannot see. In the novel, they are afraid of a monster known as the “beastie” even though they are not even sure if it exists. As kids, we are afraid of what we cannot see as well such as monsters under our bed, or in our closet. When we get scared we call our mom or dad to make our fears go away but the boys did not have that option. They were all by themselves. Since the boys were so young, they had no idea of what exactly could be in the wilderness. Piggy says “There aren't any beasts to be afraid of on this island” (Golding, Chapter 5), which shows that Piggy might be one of the most courageous characters in the book as he faced his fears. Since the boys are by themselves on the island, they feel very vulnerable and unprotected which may make them more fearful. The boys had appointed Jack as their leader. Even though they needed a leader, this may have caused more fear among them due to the harsh treatment from Jack. As Jack was just young himself and probably just as afraid as the other boys, he handled the situation...

Partridge's Pure

...The heads right eye is blue, representing beauty, and purity. Pressia was beautiful, and pure, because she stood for she believed, and she showed her scars as her story. The left side has a grey eye. One of the reasons is to make that side look bland, because they all had a similar manner. The second reason is it represents Partridge, because Partridge has grey eyes. On the right side again, the bottom most cut is where Pressia attempted to cut off the doll head fist when she was younger. If you hold the head in your left hand, where your pinky lays (or near there), there is a blood stain. That stain represent Partridge giving up his purity, because he wanted to find his mom, help Pressia, but also because he didn’t want purity, he wanted freedom from the dome. It shows how Partridge wanted free of what he was expected to do or even what he was told to do. On the back, there is an indented line/fold. That line is where the “bomb” was planted inside Pressia, and it’s important because Pressia stood up for what she believed, and all they wanted to do was stop her. The head is made of clay, which shatters easily, just like the world portrayed in the book. One wrong moves, and her entire adventure could’ve come to an...
