In my nursery one of the main responsibilities for all teachers is to monitor and assess pupils achievement. With this information they are then able to plan lessons and the objectives so that each pupils progress can be measured. Teachers need to know how each individual child is progressing in class so that they can report back to pupils parents/carers and all staff involved with each child's learning needs. This is where assessments are involved and my role as a teaching assistant. Assessments is an on-going process which takes different forms. ...Credit value: 5 1 Communication in health and social care Health and social care professionals need good communication skills to develop positive relationships and share information with people using services. They also need to be able to communicate well with people’s families and/or carers and their own colleagues and other professionals. It is important therefore, if you are considering a career in health and social care, to gain the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to develop effective interpersonal skills. There are several different forms of communication used in a health and social care environment. This unit looks at verbal and non-verbal communication methods. You will gain an understanding of the communication cycle, looking at how to make sure that communication is effective and messages understood at each stage. You will also learn to recognise a range of factors which may create barriers to communication. You will then consider ways in which these barriers may be overcome, including the use of alternative forms of communication. You will be given the opportunity to observe and discuss communication methods used by professionals – skills which you will practise and refine. You will then demonstrate your communication skills in both one-to-one and group situations. This unit has links with Unit 2 (Individual needs in health and social care), Unit 5 (Vocational experience) and Unit 6 (Cultural diversity) as it will develop...

Emproving Employee Morale

...Memorandum TO: Georgia Sias, Director of Class “A” Centers of Louisiana FROM: Dala S. Stansbury, Director of Kid’s Corner Christian Academy DATE: May 16, 2012 SUBJECT: Improving employee morale and productivity in childcare facilities Attached is my proposal to provide director based training on improving morale among teachers and staff. The success of our centers is based on our parent-staff relations. According to 2012 Home daycare overview, daycare centers are now rated below average among in- home centers (Baby Center Medical Advisory Board, 2012). From my experience, parents are complaining that they are not having a good experience when speaking with teachers about behavior matters or in receiving reports of their child’s day. I have investigated further by listening to parents’ constant complaints of how upon entering the center they feel unwelcomed by the tone teachers are using and the lack of concern among directors. Centers in Louisiana are having a problem keeping their staff motivated, which leads to problems that impact the center as a whole. This project will educate directors and staff about the significance of high morale in daycare facilities. When the morale is high, teachers are happy and it is reflected in the lesson plans and interaction with the children. I will discuss the benefits of having a great director, how it correlates to improving the environment of your center...

You may choose to look at another topic not covered in this booklet but check with your tutor if you are unsure if it is suitable. Read selectively: the journal article in section 4 contains a lot of useful information about the UK as well as other countries. However, it is quite long and contains quite a lot of historical background information in the first few pages which will not necessarily be useful for your assignment. Use the sub-headings to focus on the sections that will be most useful to you. Use only relevant details: Be selective when choosing the information you want to include and make sure it remains relevant to the topic of the paragraph. E.g. If the paragraph is on the structure of the education system, do not start discussing any...

Lullabies can be found in every human culture.[2] The English term lullaby is thought to come from "lu, lu" or "la la" sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and "by by" or "bye bye", either another lulling sound, or a term for good night.[3] Until the modern era lullabies were usually only recorded incidentally in written sources. The Roman nurses' lullaby, "Lalla, Lalla, Lalla, aut dormi, aut lacta", is recorded in a scholiumon Persius and may be the oldest to survive.[4] Many medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus take...

Knowledge and Conformance on Essential Newborn Care

...Knowledge and Conformance of Delivery Room Staff on Essential Newborn Care Protocol A Thesis Proposal Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of University of the Visayas Cebu City, Philippines In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Masters of Arts in Nursing Major in Maternal and Child Health Nursing by MAY PRINCES T. ABUCEJO, RN August, 2012 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE INTRODUCTION Rationale of the Study The Child Survival Strategy published by the Department of Health has emphasized the need to strengthen health services of children throughout the stages. The neonatal period has been identified as one of the most crucial phases in the survival and development of the child. The Millennium Development Goal Number four (4) of reducing under five child mortality can be achieved by the Philippines, however, if the neonatal mortality rates are not addressed from its non-moving trend of decline, MDG 4 might not be achieved (http://www.doh.gov.ph/node/2664). Based on health statistics, the Philippines is one of the 42 countries that account for 90% of under-five mortality worldwide. Eighty two thousand (82,000) Filipino children under five years old die every year. Thirty seven percent (37%) or 40,000 of them are newborn. Majority of them (3/4) die within the first two days of life, mostly from preventable causes. The high mortality and morbidity rates in newborn are directly related to inappropriate hospital and community practices...
