...Patricia EDU 210 Students in the 21st Century I chose to observe children for a three-hour block at my three daughter’s dance studio. These children were a variety of different ages, from three to ten. The format was both structured (during the classes) and unstructured ( in between). Girls are very giggly. Their communication style was very dramatic. During their unstructured time, girls of all ages were running around, giggling, happy and being overly expressive. All the girls smiled and were generally happy. Some of the girls communicated with more body language than the others. This was evident by them using their hands while talking or by touching each other while speaking. I witnessed many girls grab hands, arms, or hug in a loving manner to display affection as they were speaking or as part of a greeting. The girls talked about upcoming events like Christmas, gifts that they wanted and excitement over the upcoming Christmas dance recital. The older girls talked about school, upcoming tests, and the fast approaching Christmas break. There was some discussion of boys, but very little. Phrases I heard over and over were “Oh My God” and “ That’s adorbs” . As a mother of three girls, these are phrases I am very familiar with. The attitudes displayed were generally very happy. The girls were all bubbly, happy to see and greet one another. All of the girls seemed to want to be there and excited to go into their dance classes. Because we were at a dance studio...

...Character of the 21st Century Name: Institution: Date: Introduction The character of the 21st Century from a political, economic and social perspective would be chaotic. It should be appreciated that the world has gotten to a point of political, economic and social consciousness that puts pressure between the governed and the governors. From a social contract point of view, it is arguably correct to assert that the realisation of the social contract nobles would be effected. However, this process is expected to be chaotic, painful, and gruelling and time consuming. Three main reasons that give this realisation a chaotic character can be cited as inclusive of the following; a politically, economically and socially conscious society, a government system and power structure determined to retain the status quo and lastly a heightened application of information technology gains and innovation to the extent that mass media as a source of power control becomes inevitable. This paper would explain the three reasons and discuss comprehensively their position and role in the overall progress of the society. The political, social and economic consciousness can be seen in the aggressive nature of the modern society. All over across the globe, citizens continue to show a renewed resilience and determination to realise their rights, freedoms and expectations from society. The concept of legitimate expectation from a legal point of view as been greatly heighted. Citizens have become...

...TEACHING IN THE 21ST CENTURY Education has always been the tool for economic and development, for eradicating poverty, for survival and for the change. Facing the 21st century, education is quite challenging knowing that it should ensure and prepare students to be lifelong learners. Today education is no longer restricted to certain aspects there are linkages of one subject to another. Education now uses information from the internet and computers unlike years ago when only teachers and textbook were the primary source of knowledge and information. At present, education aims to expose students to different global issues and concerns. It also opens the idea that learning does not only happen within the four corners of the classroom. It can happen anywhere and anytime with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace. In the 21st century education student centered activities are given emphasis. Compared to the traditional way of teaching where the teacher do the chalk and talk and students were just mere listeners and audience. Another thing is 21st century education focus on teaching topics that will enable the learners apply what they learn to real life. “Given the challenges facing society, teachers are being required to take on new roles and must have the knowledge, confidence and resources needed to fulfil legitimate expectations of the community. Teachers must also learn throughout life and develop new skills if they...

...Teams in the 21st Century Adrianne Villeda SOC/110 October 10, 2013 Sharlette Kellum University of Phoenix Teams in the 21st Century The most important skill individuals will learn in college is working in groups. Groups consist of two or more individuals grouped together by employers or instructors to reach a common goal. Group work is also used in other organizations that include political and religious organizations. Working in groups has advantages and disadvantages. In past experiences working in groups, some individuals were not able to complete his or her portion of the assignment by the deadline or not at all. These are not positive experiences to receive when working in groups. When an individual does not meet the deadlines set by fellow group members, it delays the whole group from completing the assignment. When an individual does not complete his or her portion of the assignment, his or her fellow group members are pressured to complete the assignment. Communication between group members is important to avoid these situations. Communication keeps group members informed and may provide additional help if needed. Employers use groups when the company has a special project or a business proposal. Employers gather individuals together based on the individuals skills or talent to successfully reach the goal. Working groups...

...James McNulty EDU-209 January 1, 1999 Mrs Crabtree Students of the 21st Century For this assignment I observed an “age group swim meet” in Springfield. I volunteered as a timer, which allowed me an up close and personal view of the kids I was observing. There were three separate swim teams participating in the meet, which totaled around 60-80 swimmers. There was 4 distinct age groups that competed: 8 years old and under, 9 & 10 year olds, 11 & 12 year olds, and 13 & 14 year olds. My nephew competed in the 9 & 10 group, and my niece swam in the 11 & 12 group, so naturally I focused more on those swimmers. This observation allowed me a great insight into many of the social customs and practices of a 21st Century student-athlete. At the beginning of the meet, I observed many swimmers exhibiting a great deal of anxiety. They frequently complained about the events they were signed up to swim, and felt unsure about how they would do in the events. Their postures were often hunched over or bunched up, and their tone was often muted. As the meet progressed and they realized that their reservations were unwarranted they became more boisterous, and confident about their next events. Their posture improved, and they began to exhibit more energetic postures and motions when lining up for their events. The swimmers were always very positive and encouraging when interacting with each other, weather they were on the same team or not. The would stand behind the starting block and...

...21st Century Enlightenment Emily M Sheridan ABS417: Community Organizing & Development (COI1319B) Michellda Bradshaw 5/21/2013 The world is always changing around us whether we can see these changes or not. Margaret Mead was an American cultural anthropologist who stated “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has”. In this paper I will discuss my thoughts on the video and how it supports Margaret Mead’s statement. I also will discuss social change, progressive organizing, and community organizing. I will then discuss some ways in which citizens can respond to social problems. Last I will consider the quote, “Activism is living out one’s values” and how it relates to how social changes align with people’s values. The video 21st Century Enlightenment discusses the process of people’s consciousness and our belief systems, what ones serve us and which ones our outdated, and our awareness of oneself. Understanding human behaviors with an evidence base such as how humans have bad long term decision making skills is an important aspect to the 21st century enlightenment. The video also discusses the importance for improvement in a worldwide need for more empathy towards others. The video also talks about many different dynamics that go into solving the problems today and also look ahead to sustainability for the whole world. I feel that by looking at our values, norms, and lifestyles...

...The 21st Century Classroom: The Good, The Bad, and The Necessary The 21st Century Classroom: The Good, The Bad, and the Necessary It seems that now, more than ever before, that our lives are immersed in the need for technology. That statement, however tired and worn out it has become, grows stronger with each new toy, gadget, car, and toaster oven that we purchase and surrender ourselves to. In my lifetime, I have seen videogames progress from simple games that were controlled by moving diode lights to symbolize football players, to fully interactive headsets that are placed over our eyes that will immerse players in a reality that is very close to, or as far away from our own as they choose to be. The students that we come in contact with on a daily basis are heavily influenced by technology, so much so that they sometimes fail to see how to live a life without access to online information and entertainment. This new generation where batteries are required, but not included can provide hurdles to the traditional educator. It is important for educators to listen to the voices of researchers and fellow practitioners for the good and the bad. With every innovation, we sometimes see the dimming of one that came before. This is also the case with using and incorporating technology in our classrooms. “Today’s life and work environments require far more than thinking skills and content knowledge. The ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally...

...Businesses in the 21st Century Gia Serrette Dr. Tina Lamb Business 101 January 30,2012 Businesses in the 21st Century Businesses in the 21st Century face many challenges, and these challenges are based on the fact that there is a need for managing change and resources more effectively, in the current global marketplace and because of the fast developments of infrastructures. The below review will attempt to review the role and challenges of a business or non-profit organization and the marketing strategies that would make any venture competitive. The role of a business or non-profit organization can be determined by the services it provides for its stakeholders. (Carroll and Buccholtcz, 2008.) The relationship between the government and businesses has changed significantly since World War II. The government has a regulative role in the life of businesses, while businesses communicate with the public through advertising and public relations. Globalization has created some new ground rules, and these are changing the role of businesses and non-profit organizations alike. (Norén, Göran, 2004) The role of businesses The basic role of a business originally is to develop and supply goods and services for customers. Profit oriented companies do this for a profit, while non-profit organizations choose to work for the benefit of the society. The profit generated by companies is the foundation of the society’s prosperity; therefore, it is a driving force. Governments...

...Teams in the 21st Cent SOC/110 November 4, 2013 Teams in the 21st Century From the time that you are a young child you begin to experience working in teams. Teams have become an important part of the 21st Century whether it be in education, athletics, or even at the workplace. In this paper I’ll discuss my experience working in teams, the advantages of being part of a team, and how having stronger team skills could really benefit you. I worked on my first team at the age of eight when I was on my first softball team. I never really knew what being part of a team meant until I played with those girls and that is an experience I have never forgotten even today. As I got older and in high school being part of a team became more common with the DECA club, Student Council, and the Dance Team. Each of these teams are all different in their own way but they each individually taught me skills that I still use to this day. Now that I am older I have realized that not everyone has the same idea or definition of what a team exactly is. As a student at the University of Phoenix working in teams is a big part of my school assignments each week. I have had some really positive experiences but there have been other times when my experiences were not so good. The one consistent problem I seem to have is getting everyone to do their part of the assignment on time or even at all which can be very frustrating at times. When I was younger it was fun to be part of a...

...In addition, I want to emphasize that classroom plays significant role in prompting and engaging students to innovative learning. I will share at least 6 recommendations of a healthy 21st century classroom: Start with the physical shell. High ceilings, adequate lighting and lighting controls, open room layouts, and raised flooring are just a few of the elements that enables the classroom to become more conducive for the students. here they can practice innovative and informative learning. Eliminate shadows and dark spots. Unlike traditional rooms where blackboards were the focal point, the 21st century room has to accommodate different types of projections and displays that instructors use during the course of a day. Maximize seating arrangements. The days when students sat at individual desks and pored over their own individual assignments are long gone. Today's college classroom is teeming with collaborative opportunities. The casework and furniture has to support that trend. Get faculty involved in the process. Faculty members played an important role in the design of the new environment. The teachers must be the facilitators and they must manipulate the classroom to provide globally and institutionally competitive students. Provide easy ways to "power up." Textbooks and notebook paper don't require electrical outlets and USB ports to operate but laptops, iPads, audiovisual equipment, and interactive displays do. Take this into consideration during the design process...

...Privacy in the 21st Century Eng 122 Mrs. Samaniego 10 June, 2013 In today’s society cameras are watching every step you take and every move you make. How do you feel about that? Someone is watching you, whether it is the surveillance cameras at a gas station or it’s the security guard in a shopping mall. Does this make you feel uncomfortable? You post something on Facebook and decide to delete it 5 minutes later, but did you know that it will always be on the internet although you deleted it? You may not see it but others will. In today’s society, personal privacy rarely exists. There are certain devices and tools that people use when trying to invade someone’s privacy including hidden cameras and satellites. Privacy no longer exists due to all of the new technologies and programs enabling the invasion of someone’s privacy. What is privacy? Do people today really understand what privacy is? Have they had the opportunity to experience privacy? The definition of privacy is “allowing an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about themselves and thereby reveal them selectively.” When something is private it is usually something personal or valuable to someone. Everyone likes privacy but...

...Diana Lovato EDU-210 February 8, 2015 Instructor Winter Students in the 21st Century As I age I have realized that the life of a young person has changed drastically in comparison to the way I grew up. When I was thirteen I did not have a cell phone, and the internet was an uncommon luxury; not a customary part of life. Now as an adult I find that I understand less, and with time, more changes are in store for the next up and coming generation. For the past ten years I have been a youth leader at my church to teenagers from ages thirteen to twenty. I decided to conduct my observation on a church youth social gathering. The young people had gathered together at the church to play board games, however after about twenty five minutes into the beginning of the gathering the young people had not managed to actually start any of the games. Instead the girls spent their time taking pictures of themselves and each other with their phones. It was weird to watch the girls ignore each other and still communicate; they were not talking in person, but communicating on social media. In my opinion the young ladies had taken a lot of time on their appearance; having their hair, make-up, and clothing looking as though they were going out for a night on the town, and not a night of board games. The young men all high fived and fist bumped upon arrival and gathered together in a corner where they all took their phones out. The boys had brief moments of communication when they would share...

...Howard Gardener and Claudio Fernández-Aráoz offer profound perceptions of how the core qualities can be developed and balanced into the human mentality and also how can they be administered in a broader aspect to garner success. However, the elements of success in 21st century from Howard Gardener and Claudio Fernández-Aráoz are not exactly the same. In terms of being successful in the globalized world nowadays, they vary on unlike aspects which include the nature and application of essential skills and features. Howard Gardener, a famous researcher in psychology who has been studying the functions of mind such as development, organization and creation. He suggests that in order to flourish and outshine in a globalized world, every person has to be concerned with how to establish those minds in the younger generation, those who could be taught to become the leaders or managers of tomorrow. Gardener also mentions five different minds that he believes human beings should develop in the future. The disciplined mind reminds us working stably over time to enhance skills and comprehension, the synthesizing mind collates information and presents it in a coherent way, the creating mind leads us to pull out new ideas and unexpected answers, the respectful mind greets the differences between individuals and finds to cooperate with each other effectively, and the ethical mind struggles to conceptualize proper work that people can do it unselfishly. In other words, these minds which are...
