A multi-purpose pet

I wanted to inform you that I am planning to adopt a pet in the near future. I’ve considered the various pets available for adoption and have come to the conclusion that adopting a dog would be the best choice for both you and me. I will explain a few of the reasons that I feel adopting a dog is our best choice; Dogs are very loyal to humans, they teach children responsibility, and will help protect our family and homes from criminals.

The loyalty of a dog is unsurpassed by any other type of pet. Dogs are often referred to as, “Man’s best friend.” Throughout the world, dogs are used to help people with disabilities, assist police in dangerous law enforcement, and provide companionship to patients recovering from serious health issues. Dogs continuously display their loyalty to humans.

As a child, I remember spending hours on end with my dog, Rango. No matter how down or lonely I may have been at times, Rango was always willing and available to play with me. He was my dog and I was responsible for making sure that he was properly fed and well taken care of. Looking back, I realize the sense of responsibility that I gained from having a dog. Now, as a Father, I would like for my children to have a dog, so that they too can learn to be responsible during their childhood.

There are few feelings greater than knowing that your family and home are safe. A dog’s natural instincts make them great “security guards”. Their sense of smell and hearing are far greater than any human. Dogs will know if someone is on our property long before you or I will and can be trained to bark to alert us to the fact. I would feel far more comfortable being away from home or allowing my children to play outside knowing that our pet dog is nearby. Intruders are far less likely to invade a home when they know that a dog is around.

In closing, I feel that

The Lady with a Pet Dog

...Christina Diaz Due Monday 24, 2013 Rough Draft People spend their lives searching for happiness. Some find happiness in the company of family or friends. Other people find happiness in material possesions. And many others consider finding true love the ultimate happiness. Everyone is on their spiritual quest to find it, and sometimes, when they find happiness they do not know how to handle it. In Anton Chekov’s short story “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” Chekov let’s us into the mind of the character Dmitry Gurov as he seeks to compensate his unhappy life in his many affairs with women. In one of his many affairs with Anna Sergeyevna we see how Dmitry changes his views and attitude as he falls in love. In the beginning of “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” the character Dmitry Gurov is an unhappy narcissistic and a misogynist who is easily bored with women and his lover Anna Sergeyevna. By the end of the story, however, he changes his views of Anna when he realizes he loves her. Before meeting Anna, Dmitry is displayed in an unflattering manner. He is very unhappy with his life and marriage even though his wife was described as “a tall, erect woman with dark eyebrows, stately and dignified and, as she said of herself, intellectual” (156). She seemed like a great woman with beauty and intelligence, yet, he was still dissatisfied, “he privately considered her of limited intelligence, narrow-minded, dowdy, was afraid of her, and did not like to be home” (156). Dmitry is very critical...

The Lady with the Pet Dog

...or she does, nature versus nurture. When it comes down to it people automatically see nature as being what environmentally influences them, and nurture as the way they are taught to feel and think about things. In the battle between nature and nurture “It is nature that wins”. The short story “The lady with the Pet dog” by Joyce Carol Oates illiterates it. The short story starts with a woman named Anna, who is at an event with her husband when she sees a man in the crowd and suddenly is anxious and in distress about it. She goes home her mind passes over him while she is with her husband and it is made apparent that the man she saw was at one time her lover. The author describes Anna and her husband laying there when she closes her eyes and thinks about the other man. “always this hot flashing of shame between them, the shame of her husband’s near failure, the clumsiness of his love” (771) she is unhappy in the marriage as she feels nothing towards the husband as he caresses her .the story then flashes back to several months prior. This time Anna is in Nantucket Were she met her lover at the beach. She was always alone until the man with the blind son and the dog came and started a conversation with her, the nature of a man seeing a lonely woman is to go and talk to her and this is what the lover...

Comparing The Lady With The Pet Dog

...A tale of a love affair, a secret romance between two adulterous spouses and secret meetings, both the original and retelling of “The Lady with the Pet Dog” demonstrate the decisions and actions of two unhappily married persons who meet haphazardly and immediately fall in love. The plot and resolution of the two versions are identical:the love affair between the two lovers resulting in the couple discovering their love for one another, but the emotions and tone of the stories contrast solely based on the point of view perceived. In Chekhov’s version, Gurov is a man who can no longer relate to his wife and loses interest and faith in his marriage. He consistently belittles his wife and condemns her as “of limited intelligence,narrow-minded,...

Why Dogs Make the Best Pets

...Dogs Make the Best Pets Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. From tea cup size to giant size, from long hair to short hair and even hairless. With all the different breeds of dogs there is a variety of behavior and personalities and a variety of looks. But with all this variety there is one thing that stays constant – the love and companionship a dog gives. Regardless of the type of dog you chose your little furry friend will become your best friend, your family and if you let them will become part of your heart. There is no other animal that would make a better pet than a dog, no other pet provides more unconditional love and affection, and provides more social interaction and companionship than a dog. A dog expresses love and affection in so many ways, from the affectionate licks on our face, the intimate wagging of their tails, to their hugs when you come home. I cannot think of another species in the universe other than a dog that is capable of expressing their unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. When you think of a pet the two obvious choices that come to mind are a dog or a cat. Some people may try to argue that a cat is a better pet, but a cat does not greet you at the door like a dog, nor is a cat as affectionate as a dog. A cat is more independent than a dog, they tend to come around when they need something where a dog actually identifies with their owners mood. My dog can actually sense my mood and react accordingly; when I am sick or sad my dogs lie...

A. P. Chekhov's Lady With A Pet Dog

...Absolutely, love is a very needed and beautiful feeling. But social life imposes on human sort of limitations and restrictions, especially in Russia, at the time when the story “Lady with a Pet Dog’ was created by a famous Russian author A.P. Chekhov in 1899, were very strong patriarchal ideas of love and marriage. It used to be normal to marry and marry not for love but for any "reasonable price" or by agreement between the parents. The composition takes place at the resort called Yalta, and the romance between two Chekhov’s protagonists seems to be just a regular short affair during the holiday, where married people find each other on the one purpose: for a few minutes to forget everyday worries and feel a bit happier....

Comparing Anton Chekhov's The Lady With The Pet Dog

...Frequently we see a struggle for control within relationships as in relationships there are both subtle and overt ways in which partners seek to exercise control.According to Kate Chopin, relationships reduced to one person’s will controlling another, or sometimes the internal struggle is internal between one person’s conflicting desires. As such it is my intention to examine [Chekhov's] “ The lady with the pet dog” and [Faulkner’s] “A Rose for Emily” and to highlight how control is exercised by the protagonist in both pieces. Did Your Mom Ever Tell You Not to Pet Stray Dogs?

...Did your mom ever tell you to not pet stray dogs? Well mine did of course, and I listened just as well as any 4 year old would. I was a very hard headed kid at that age, and I never listened to what I was told. We lived in a small town 200 miles west of Middlin, Texas; it was a quiet town with a population around 1,000 people. If you’ve ever been to Texas then you know that it’s about 90% desert, it’s a dry and dusty place. Stray dogs are everywhere be aware and whatever you do don’t pet stray dogs. It was the summer of 1991 in Middlen, Texas the temperature was around 100 degrees. I was soaked from head to toe with sweat from ridding my dirt bike all day. I had gotten a 50cc Suzuki dirt bike from my dad just a year prior and I was loving it. I rode my dirt bike all summer long that year. There was a pit not too far from my house that I could ride in that had some whoop-de-woops, and some jumps. This pit was huge, I mean it was a giant pit, it looked like a comet had struck the earth it was so big. I spent what seemed to be all day at the pit riding my dirt bike. When I finally got home I decided to cool off in the sprinklers, I ran into the house as fast as I possibly could to change clothes. As I got into the house I yelled Mom! Can I go outside and play in the sprinkler, she said yes but I had to eat supper first Dang it, I said under my breath as I continued down the long hallway. When I got to my room I looked everywhere for my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles swimming...

Pet Adoption

...adopt other pets, and never opt to go a pet-dog. Many have associated their preference to the easiness in training the pet as well as the difficulties experienced when outsourcing for the same. Personally I feel that a dog would make an excellent pet on my side. In fact, dogs are indeed the best pets one would wish to have as they provide the desired companionship and support to the owner. Adopting a dog is in itself fulfilling since I will deliberately take care of the pet while providing the necessary care and amenities. Majority of dogs up for adoption are pure breeds, thus possess excellent agility and obedience levels (Banks, 2006). Dogs are beneficial pets especially because of the endless options which a dog can undertake. There are competitions available for the pet dogs for instance they can be useful for therapy purposes or even security services. Such competition avenues are not available to other pets like cats and lizards. As long as the dogs are spayed and neutered on regular basis, most illnesses which affect them will be put at-bay. Thus expensive medications due to illnesses like hip dysplasia, cancer or chronic seizures will not be undertaken translating to a lot of savings. Other dogs are already trained on commands and obedience thus bonding becomes easy. This is not the case with other pets like bird or even lizard where the adopter has to engage in serious training prior to familiarizing with the pets behavior. More often than not, you adopt a dog is probably...
