A laboratory information system (LIMS) is a software that allows you to manage samples and data to improve lab efficiency. Some of the key features that support a laboratory’s operations are data tracking support, flexible architecture and work flow. Security includes alarms and door locks also known as security codes. Alarms will need to be logged as well as logging the security codes on a protected system. This is so managers of a laboratory will know which alarms have been set off, security alarms are useful to be logged on to a LIMS as it may need to be used on an overview in a map layout of the laboratory, people will know where the alarms are located.
A schematic map is needed in a laboratory as nay new employee’s or members of the laboratory will need to know where to go and where certain things are such as utilities (water, gas and electric) and fire exits in case of an emergency.
Offices should be logged on a laboratory information system as every member of the laboratory information management system as every member of the laboratory will need to know whose office each one is, where every office is located in the laboratory. Heating systems are in the office as well as any vents that run through offices this is important as it can be logged on to a map of the building and is useful as this will allow oxygen to constantly be in a long supply for whoever is using the office. Space will need to be logged (M3) within the system as some activities may require more space than others.
In the laboratory fixed electricals must be logged onto an electronic information system. So they can keep track of the maintenance of the electrics, so there may be a required rota to be logged onto the system for member (staff) to know or for electronic engineers to know when it is there job to maintain the electrics, electrics should also be logged to locate electric sockets
