Academic Decorum Explained
Academic decorum is a standard of behavior that should be met and exceeded every time you walk into the classroom. Your academic decorum is a big part of what your teacher and peers think about you and can help to determine your final grade in the class. The standards that should be met in the classroom are having a positive outlook on the class, giving all assignments effort, and working hard in the class. If you achieve academic decorum in your class, you shouldn’t have to worry about your grade. However, academic decorum can help you with more than just your grades. When applying for a job, your future employer is going to want to hire someone with a good work ethic, and overall positive mindset as well as someone who works hard. If you have practiced meeting the academic decorum in the classroom, you will be a better employee and could pull yourself to the top of the ladder in your profession.

In other words, my general class behavior has been good in the past, both individually, and in a group. When it comes to group assignments and projects, I have been a contributor. In fact, in 5th grade we were asked to recreate a battle from the Civil War in a pizza box. Everything went very well for my partner because I did all the work. However, I was a contributor to the project rather than a distractor. I also work well individually. I have always been the kid who sits quietly and focuses on the task or material. I paid so much attention and gave so much effort in 6th grade that my teacher pulled me aside to ask me if I was enjoying my childhood enough. I intend to give just as much effort and attention this year and in future
