Abstract

Personal Responsibility means taking ownership and responsibility for the decisions and actions you make, and understanding there are consequences that stem from those actions. The ownership is to acknowledge the mistakes except the repercussion and own up to your personal responsibility. By creating a system and staying focus will help you avoid the consequences that could arise from the feeling of becoming overwhelmed while in pursuit of educational and career goals. Accountability and Success “If we don’t discipline ourselves, the world will do it for us” (William Feather). Time management and dedication plays a large role in personal responsibility and college success. After taking a large break from my previous school it became clear that a change for higher educational growth was needed, so I decided to explore alternative options. It is my responsibility to stay dedicated and manage my time accordingly in order to be successful with the changes that I decide to make. As a student and employee I will be held accountable to balance both education and career obligations.
While attending college you need to be accountable for your decision and actions. “There are no short cuts to any place worth going” (Beverly Sills). The responsibility for completing assignments, being on time for class and studying for exams are on you. While overcoming obstacles the first thought is to procrastinate the task at hand and make excuses. Stop! Create a system or a check of list to help decrease the anxiety of becoming overwhelmed. For example most full time employees receive scheduled breaks, generally one thirty minute meal break and two fifteen minutes breaks throughout their work schedule which sums to sixty minutes. By incorporating a school assignment with the full hours of scheduled meal breaks through the day would likely be one less assignment to complete once the work shift was over, and one less excuse to make as to why the assignment was not complete.
By creating a system and staying dedicated, as an end result there will be a satisfaction of knowing you stayed focused and managed your time accordingly to avoid repercussions such as half credit on an assignment because it was not complete or an incomplete because you were too tired to start the school assignment after work. “I believe that education is all about being excited about something. Seeing passion and enthusiasm helps push an educational message” (Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter) Having a preliminary plan on how you are going to be successful with both education and career goals will help you stay motivated and keep you on track to reach the finish line. “Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility…In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have is the ability to take responsibility” (Michael Korda editor-in-chief, Simon and Schuster)

Linda Galinda

...In Linda Galindo’s speech, she pointed out that the only true accountability is "personal accountability" and the only way to achieve it is to take responsibility for the outcomes of your choices, behaviors and actions. There was one example she mentioned in the speech: someone did a great job in the interview, he showed all his talents to interviewer, people would considered him as bright and smart person, however, he is unworthy because he was not doing his job, or finish his job sloppy, doing something inappropriate at work, talked offensive to coworkers. The people like him, it is not accountable. In a company, when we look at someone and check if they are accountable or not, we are not only looked at how much he can work, but also his personality. I learned that People who are high personal accountability can contribute more to the company, since company are not need to expend extra sources to control and regulate them, they know what are doing and what they supposed to do. To the contrary, company which has abandon low personal accountability, it required spends more sources on them to control and regulate. That is the reason why a company has good HR department can help it save money, because they can recognize who have high personal accountability. We also can look at personal accountability in another way, like how people deal with bad condition. Galindo said success 99% depend on personal accountability and 1% depend on condition, which is shock me at the moment....

Personal Responsibility

...on Personal Responsibility and Academic Success Personal responsibility is important in life, especially while going to college. In order to be a successful student, personal responsibility is essential. It is accepting accountability for one's actions and is vital when pursuing an education. Personal responsibility and college success are dependent upon one another. Personal responsibility is accepting accountability for one’s actions. As personal accountability expert Linda Galindo defines it as, “When you’re personally accountable, you stop assigning blame, “should-ing” on people, and making excuses. Instead, you take the fall when your choices cause problems,” (Galindo, 2010). Personal responsibility is not about blaming others for what has gone wrong. For example, if a student received a bad grade on a project, the student can not blame the teacher for giving the bad grade. The teacher did not do the project, the student did; it was the student’s work. The student would need to accept personal responsibility and accountability for the work, and take it as feed back to work harder to get a better grade. Accepting failure is a part of accepting personal responsibility for what has taken place academically. Referring to data collected, 85 percent of an individual’s success is from steps the individual takes for themselves, rather than 15 percent being from other people (Galindo, 2010). Personal responsibility is important when pursuing...

However, in order to achieve these results it clearly requires active participation from everyone on the team and clear communication skills. Most project managers, if not all of them will tell you that communication is the most important aspect of their job and if not done properly then accountability is not likely to happen. While this key aspect is true, there are also other components of project management cycle that are often ignored that also take away from maintaining effective accountability. For this assignment we’ll discuss ways for the project manager to maintain this control and how accountability feeds into the overall success of the project. Project Governance

...Project governance is the management framework within which project decisions are made. Project governance is a critical element of any project since while the accountabilities and responsibilities associated with an organisation’s business as usual activities are laid down in their organisational governance arrangements, seldom does an equivalent framework exist to govern the development of project’s capital investments ( Sharma, Stone and Ekinci 2009 ). Project Governance extends the principle of Governance into both the management of individual projects via Governance structures, and the management of projects at the business level, for example via Business Reviews of Projects. Today, many organisations are developing models for ‘Project Governance Structures', which can be different to a traditional Organisation Structure in that it defines accountabilities and responsibilities for strategic decision-making across the project ( Crawford, Cooke-Davies, Hobbs, Labuschagne, Remington and Chen 2008 ). This can be particularly useful to project management processes such as change control and strategic decision-making. The decision making framework of the project governance is supported by three pillars ( Klakegg, Williams, Magnussen and Glasspool 2008 ) namely: structure, people and information. 1. Structure: This refers to the governance committee structure. As well as there being a Project Board or Project Steering Committee, the broader governance environment may include...

Personal Responsibility

...don't have a huge impact on others, personal responsibility is vital in day to day life, team activity, and career development. From a very young age the concepts of sharing, respect, and kindness become instilled repetitively. The golden rule is one of the primary and most influential ways personal responsibility begins. “Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you” isn’t just something that works in kindergarten, it lasts a lifetime. These initial values that we instill into the youth of society are what will transcend into their adolescent lives as students, athletes, or members of an organization and ultimately their professional lives with career beginnings and development. When I think of personal responsibility, I think accountability. Personal responsibility is not just taking the credit when everything is going as planned, it is also finding the solution and helping others along the way when nothing is going as planned. Responsibility itself is something that can be divided into multiple concepts in itself. One of which Ann Allen goes on to split into centralized and decentralized. For a group setting, as members there is a sense of centralized responsibility. Each group member is responsible for contributing their part. At the same time, there is a sense of decentralized responsibility. Allen writes, “Decentralization allows for greater shared responsibility,” which is how group work happens (“Responsibility & School Governance,” 2009, 441). Each member must...

The Federal Accountability Act (FAA)

...In today’s society, one of a politician’s toughest obstacles to overcome is the concept that they are not trusted. Though this is a difficult barrier to overlook, the Canadian government has acknowledged its difficulty and created the Federal Accountability Act (FAA) in response. As this Act has attempted to transition the government from a “culture of entitlement” to a “culture of accountability”, they have implemented regulations to ensure that the government is held liable for their actions. The Federal Accountability Act’s success roots from its transparency in restructuring the financing of political parties and its increased access to government information. Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility In today’s academic society, I believe that personal responsibility is the key to great success. The first step to this however is, we have to define personal responsibility. What does having personal responsibility mean, how do we define it in our lives? I believe being personally responsible goes hand in hand with being accountable for your actions. The follow up question for that will be; what is being “accountable”? “Much of the academic literature on accountability is rather disconnected, as many authors set out to produce their own specific definition of accountability.” (Bovens, 2010, para. 1) With accountability used so loosely in language, we have to make a decision as to its meaning. For me accountability is the definition for success. Whatever my choices are in school, I have to be responsible for them. If the decisions I make during the years I attend college are responsible and I hold myself accountable to be successful, there is no limit to what I will be able to achieve. Career Student Personal responsibility will lead to more substantive decisions in your career. I have never met anyone that their goal in life is to be a career student. That being said, some students do feel like their whole life has been spent in school. If for such a long period of time, you are in school, why would you choose to not be successful? Nonprofit Leadership Skills

...Management and leadership skills are crucial to have for overall success of a nonprofit organization. Before taking on the challenge of managing an organization, it is important to understand the procedures leaders are obligated to adhere to when making decisions for the direction of the organization. The future of nonprofit organizations depends on the leadership’s ability to stay committed to their mission while incorporating new ways to better serve the community. Leaders and management of organizations are expected to practice accountability to demonstrate responsibility for actions (Renz and Herman, 2011). Without the practices of accountability organizations are at risk of exposing their programs and employees to scandals, fraud and corruption. Accountability is crucial for the growth of the organization and the community; it ensures longevity in partnerships, funding and public’s trust. I suspect governing boards will strengthen over years due to accountability and its influence on the operation of the organization. As board members strengthen their knowledge and skills to address the community as it evolves, the leadership skills will evolve as well. Also, as boards become more diverse in their skills and approach, they acquire better methods to operate the...
