Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

What makes the Wachowskis' 1999 film, The Matrix, an action film isn't just its exhilarating visual effects and the innovative "bullet time" that loaned the audience a virtual eye to the world of the Matrix, where the laws of physics can be bent or broken. Nor is it just the fighting sequences of kung fu and the impossible acrobatics of a hero "plugged-in". The Matrix is an action film because its actions speak louder than its words. It is a film where adventurous narrative and visual spectacle meet, unapologetically, hand in hand. The film, through action, reveals just as much story, if not more, as through characterization or dialogue. This is best summarized in the words of the great Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), as he explains to Neo (Keanu Reeves), and consequently, the audience: "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself." Perhaps it is because the story in The Matrix is one best understood in action, as it dwells into territories of sci-fi genre (e.g. breaking physical limitations through psychological liberation). There is no better way to explain how a person, who is liberated from the Matrix, can jump from one building to the next than to show it. Furthermore, action in The Matrix can be seen as the physical display of its story's progression. The various set piece action sequences throughout the film mark the development of the protagonist in terms of his psychological growth by coming to terms with the Matrix and his destiny, which all manifests themselves in physical action. For example, early on in the film, when Neo,

...marketing mixes with different composition of the constituents. There for to analyse the action-response relationship can be studies by a matrix called Comparative Response Matrix. Comparative Response Matrix: The Comparative Response Matrix is an important tool used to study the competition between two companies. The matrix has three parameters namely Price, Quality and Advertisement. These three parameters give a 3x3 matrix which give us nine different action-response parameters. The matrix can be drawn as follows: COMPANY B(Response) | COMPANY A(Action) | | | Price | Quality | Advertising | | Price | Cp,p | Cq,p | | | | | | Ca,p | | | | | | | Quality | Cp,q | Cq,q | Ca,q | | Advertising | Cp,a | Cq,a | Ca,a | Table1. Comparative Response matrix Therefore all the nine parameters mentioned in the table signify the responses taken by company B against the actions taken by company A. We can further discuss each parameter separately using examples from the industry in detail. 1. Cpp : The Cpp determines that the company B has responded to company A’s action with the same tool. We may witness this more often in the sectors with larger consumer base where the number of consumers is significantly high. The tool here that is used to combat the action of the company A is price. In this strategy, Company B may respond in either way to the action of company A. Suppose Company A...

Mathematical Modelling

...Game theory Competition is a watchword of modern life. A competitive situation exists when two or more opposing parties are making decisions involving conflicting interests and wherein the action of one depends on the action which the opponent takes. Each opponent acts in a rational manner and tries to resolve the conflict in his own favor. Such situations arise in business, military operations, etc. Game theory is used to handle such conflicting situations. It seeks to provide a rational course of action in a conflicting situation. The term „game‟ represents a conflict between two or more parties. There can be several types of games, e.g. two-person and n-person games, zero-sum and non-zero-sum games, constant-sum games, cooperative and non-co-operative games, pure strategy games and mixed strategy games, etc. When there are two competitors playing a game, it is called a two-person game. If the number of competitors are N (N > 2), it is known as an N person game. When the sum of amounts won by all winners is equal to the sum of the amounts lost by all losers, we call it a zero-sum game. In a non-zero-game there 1 exists a jointly preferred outcome. In other words, in a zero-game or a constant-sum game the sum of gains and losses of the game is zero. As opposed to this, if the sum of gains or losses is not equal to zero, we call it a non-zero-sum game. When the best strategy for each player is to play one particular strategy throughout the game, it is known as a pure strategy...

Discuss how one film you have viewed uses cinematographic techniques to fulfil this purpose. * * The movie the Matrix, made by the Wachowski brothers in 1999, was one of the movie highlights of the new millennia revolving around the genre of scientific fiction and exploring themes such as Man vs. Machines, Reality, Technophobia, Salvation, Simulation simulacra and to a small extent, on war. The Matrix was made to open our eyes to how humanity lives today and a very possible dystopic future where humanity might face the wrath of its own creations. The Matrix is a very intricate movie that entertains the audience, informs and messes with the audience’s mind evoking strong responses through the use of cinematography, conventions and SWAT codes. Movies are created with a purpose and for most movies that purpose is to entertain and inform the audience about certain issues that exist in our social norms or some other thing that the directors of the movie may want to send across to the audience. A casual viewer could watch the entire Matrix without assessing all the other philosophical and Intertextuality references and still enjoy the movie. The Matrix is a very entertaining movie and it uses Technical codes such as Computer graphics to keep the audience engaged and greatly entertained. The Matrix was one of...

Realities Two Way Street

...Realities Two-Way Street Ignorance is bliss. This phrase, however comforting, is a provocative statement to the debilitating state of society and the human state of mind; the dual-edged comment is represented in both Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and the Wachoski brother’s The Matrix through universes, similar to our own, where people are in strong states of illusion and ignorance. Both have a character, which is brought to the “light” to realize this false reality and to liberate everyone else to a better reality, the “real” reality. Situations can arise where having knowledge of it can seem detrimental, however, our very existence as human beings is to live a life of bettering ourselves and the species in general through knowledge both good and bad, and the actions that take place from knowledge. People do actions and make decisions based on history from what he has done wrong or from what he has done correctly and on this basis it is a stepping stone that either good or bad having knowledge of the past, complete knowledge, helps to mold the future positively. Although blissful, avoiding reality will never be a positive action with even in modern days something such as Facebook has become our matrix keeping people away from the outside, not personally and physically interacting with others or now having games that are virtually realities allowing someone to be something else but does not benefit the world in any way. The lack of benefit world is where virtual reality does its...

...SPECTRUM BRAND Dr. Mensah-Dartey Business Enterprise May 9, 2010 Given the business situation for Spectrum Brand p. 251, explain how the firm might organize using a Matrix structure for the organization. Matrix structure is a structure that sets up teams from different departments, thereby creating two or more intersecting lines of authority; also called a project-management structure. Matrix structures are created in response to uncertainty and dynamism of the environment and the need to give particular attention to specific Spectrum Brand products such as: the batteries, pet products, personal grooming, and lawn and garden care. Instead of completely switching from a product based structure, a company may use a matrix structure to balance the benefits of product based and traditional functional structures. By using the matrix structure as opposed to product departments may increase communication and cooperation among departments, because project managers will need to coordinate their actions with department managers. Matrix structures have the benefit of providing quick responses to technical problems and customer demands. A project manager keeps the focus on the products that’s being provided. Matrix structures are usually temporary. Once a project is complete team members go back to their functional or line department. Explain how the firm could operate using a Multidivisional structure. Bone Turnover Research Paper

...Bone turnover is carried out by osteoclasts, cells that resorb old bone, and osteoblasts, cells that lay down new bone matrix. Osteoclasts are large multi-nucleated cells derived from mononuclear hematopoietic cells that, upon stimulation, secrete lysosomal enzymes during bone resorption. Bone is resorbed by acidification and proteolysis of the collagen bone matrix and hydroxyapatite crystals [8]. Osteoblasts evolve from mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) lineage, along with adipocytes, chondrocytes, myoblasts and fibroblasts. Bone formation takes place in three stages: 1) production of osteoid matrix, 2) maturation of osteoid matrix, and 3) mineralization of the matrix. After the completion of bone formation, osteoblasts assume one of three fates: 1) undergo apoptosis, 2) remain on the bone surface as bone lining cells, or 3) are buried in the newly formed bone matrix as terminally differentiated osteocytes....
