...WFL: Strategic IT Implications Stephan Fenty D03246578 Spring Semester A 2011 Section S The Information Technology (IT) landscape changes at a rapid pace. For businesses, both public and private, this can have a vast impact and can affect whether a company has a sufficient IT business strategy in place to compete, and even survive. The many versions of Moore’s Law that have developed over the years teach us that the speed of technology will double, while the price will be cut by one-half, every 18 months. This rapid pace has forced companies to re-evaluate their IT infrastructure and their related business processes much more often and to look for ways to do things better, faster and cheaper. Reducing costs while increasing revenues is vital in business today and Government agencies are no exception to this rule. With Federal deficit out of control the Government has been forced to limit budgets for its agencies and to put in place accountability measures. The Company we will analyze in this paper is a Federal agency called the Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFL), a child agency of the Federal Highway Administration. We will look at a number of technologies with the potential of reducing business costs while increasing productivity, and which may result in a flattening of the organization hierarchy. Forefront in all this is Telecommuting and its related technologies such as Teleconferencing, VPN, VoIP, and Cloud Computing. We will also analyze...

Any new communication, conferencing, or collaboration application should complement existing workflows and not disrupt operations. Therefore, most deployments need to be customized with and easy way to sign-on, extract data to serve other applications, provide reporting, and connect with other systems in the network. I have included in the report an acquisition strategy along with a budget analysis for you to review at your convince. Should you have any questions regarding the information enclosed, feel free to call or email me at the contact information provided. I look forward to hearing from you, and please let me know if I can do anything to further assist you. ...Research for a new, easy-to-use web conference program Message: On your request I have done some research into various web conferencing programs. Included is a table of the different programs I researched. In my research I came across several very good programs, but as I continued with my research one program stood out above the rest, Adobe Connect 8. When I did my research I was looking at usability, cost, features, and company reliability. Beck (2010) states, “Adobe Connect 8 is easier to use, offers better collaboration, richer audio and video experiences, improved access and extensibility, and increased security and support.” Connect is set up so that web conferencing is easier to setup and connect to. It has optimized screen control and enhanced audio and video controls. According to Info Tech (2011) "on a relative basis, Adobe maintained the highest Info-Tech Value Score of the vendor group." Value score: "Vendors that score high offer more bang for the buck(e.g. features, usability, stability, etc.)than the average vendor, while the inverse is true for those that score lower." (Info Tech, 2011) I recommend that we purchase Adobe Connect for our web conferencing needs. Not only it will it be easy to integrate into our system but it also has applications for eLearning and webinars, making it a great tool to help our people stay on top of the game. ...Subject: Web-Conferencing Programs Research Our organization’s manager requested information on available web-conferencing programs in an effort to receive weekly status meetings regarding the current project. An evaluation of three popular web-conferencing programs (Infinite Conferencing©, Adobe® Connect®, and Citrix® GoToMeeting®) has been conducted by my department. Based on my findings, I have requested the use of Infinite Conferencing web-conferencing service to conduct multi-point status meetings. The following points outline my recommendation. 1. Organization requirements Infinite Conferencing accommodates our growing company’s web conferencing needs for both now and in the future. Infinite’s competitive pricing plan will provide the convenient online collaboration our organization needs in a flexible and cost-effective manner (Infinite Conferencing, 2012). Additionally, scheduled, immediate, and missed or delayed conferences can be addressed with Infinite Conferencing’s features (such as, e-mail invites and recording capabilities). Currently, our organization has no way of revisiting past status meetings for absent participants. 2. ...on my findings, while each has their benefits and drawbacks they are all decent programs that will satisfy the company’s needs some more than others. When selecting a web conference program I used a few key points in my selection criteria such as cost, ease of use, and ability to upscale (expand). Below is a table listing the programs I have researched, the programs are listed in order based on the best to least desirable. Name | Cost | Ease of Use | Up-scalable | Adobe Connect | $55.00 month | Multiple platform support | Up to 99 connections | Cisco WebEx Meeting Center | $49.00 month | Multiple platform support | Maximum 7 connections | Fuze Meeting Pro | Varies from $8.00 to $20.00 month | Multiple platform support | Maximum 125 connections | iMeet | $69.00 month | Desktop only support | Maximum 15 connections | ooVoo Pro | $29.00 month | Multiple platform support | Maximum 5 connections | The majority of the programs I have researched provide multiple platform support ranging from desktops to tablets to smart phones via a dedicated app. Programs such as Adobe Connect provide a very user-friendly interface that does not require additional training and still provide multimedia-sharing support. Adobe Connect is also scalable from a single server or clustered environments providing support to thousands of concurrent users. Cisco WebEx Meeting Center also provides multiple platform support like Adobe Connect, but is limited to a maximum of 7 simultaneous...

...From: Johnathan W. Cypher To: Management RE: Web Conferencing Program I would like to quickly discuss the web conferencing program that I feel will benefit the company not just in the cost of using, but the amount of features this program allows. The program I feel fits what we need is the Infinite Conferencing Program made by Infinite. For only $35 dollars we could have up to 1 thousand colleagues conferencing all at once. The program is easy to use and doesn't take long to learn. They have live help if you run into any problems. This program is recommended by many top ranking companies. The only downside to this program is it doesn't have embedded video which isn't a major factor for what we need it for. The program also offers the ability to have impromptu meetings or carefully planned conferences. In my research this program was the best fit and the reviews really made me decide this is the one we want. Any questions or concerns don't hesitate to ask. Best Regards, Johnathan W. Cypher |Adobe. ...apps, the Apple iPhone was also part of the focus regarding their market expansion. State Farm published this unique app for Apple iPhones to engage broader smartphone markets. In 2011, the carrier launched an application for iOS devices that tracks driving behavior. This app as Chordas reports, offers teen drivers and their parents access to nonbiased feedback so families can have constructive conversations about safe driving. (2012) When the app is activated during car trips, a mobile device's accelerometer measures acceleration, braking and cornering. All measurements are then put through the app's special algorithm and gives users a score out of 100, along with a log of potentially dangerous driving activities.(Chordas, 2012) The benefits of the State Farm app is that users can also record trips and get feedback on driving...
