Review of American Sniper
The movie American Sniper is a film based on the book written by the main character, Navy Seal Sniper Chris Kyle. The movie stars Bradley Cooper as Kyle and is directed by Clint Eastwood and produced by leading actor Cooper. Kyle is a Texas native who discovers his call to serve God and country later in life due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This movie follows the events that take place throughout and shortly after his career as a Navy Seal, as well as, the events that take place after his service to his country is complete.
Unlike many other modern day war movies depicting recent events, American Sniper does not seem to be written as a modern war propaganda movie to support the war efforts, or made just win various awards from screenwriters guilds and academies, but made as a tribute to the most deadly sniper in history, Kyle. This movie does a wonderful job depicting the struggles both on and off the battlefield that a lot of soldiers have to deal with when coming home from the warzone. This was very well done by Director Eastwood by switching in between the battlefield and home life various times throughout the movie in order to keep the audiences attention. I believe that the true sense of loss that a soldier goes through was not properly conveyed, either due to the cast or the lack of suffering that the family and Kyle himself goes through. The length of the movie as a whole was long enough to convey the entirety of the life of Kyle, but not so long that the viewer was waiting to get up from their seats and leave the movie theater.
The movie did a great job of showing why Chris Kyle Enlisted in the Navy to help people, but there was only one common reason throughout the movie and that was conveyed, and that is an extreme amount of patriotism and love of country. While that is the main reason why people choose to serve in the Armed Forces, I do not believe that this was his driving reason for taking four tours of duty to a hostile war zone. A better job could have definitely been done of looking for multiple driving reasons to the intentions that would have caused a man to do such a thing. In the trailer of the movie it shows Kyle struggling with the decision of shooting a woman and child that intend to do harm to a group of Marines. In the actual movie this particular scene was extremely downplayed and he did not appear to have that true struggle that was shown in the trailer.
Excluding various shortcomings listed above, the movie did have its key points as well. It did a great job showing the stresses that the family of the soldier goes through while a soldier is serving his country overseas. This was done extremely well in the scene where Kyle receives a phone call from his wife letting him know the gender of their first born child, and he is immediately engaged in a firefight while in the middle of the conversation. It also did a very good job showing the mental a physical stress that soldiers have to deal with while trying to re-integrate into everyday society. One main example of this is when Kyle and his wife are driving down the highway and a van that looks identical to ones that are commonly used overseas is tailgating there vehicle. This scene accurately shows the sense of impending danger that follows the soldier from the battlefield to the home front.
This movie is definite must see movie for any young American who is serving or who is thinking of serving in the Armed Forces. This movie shows the true heroism and dedication of a man who has no other passion but help the people of the United States of America, and lay down life for this service . American Sniper pays true homage to a great American hero and in no way diminishes the triumphs of the deadliest sniper in history. This movie will continue to inspire young and old alike with the true patriotism. Kyle stands as more than an American sniper, but an American hero. This movie does a fantastic job of depicting Kyle's life with great honor and sincerity. American Sniper and the story of Chris Kyle stands as a true inspiration to myself, and should be an inspiration to everyone.

Richard Gwyn proposed that Canada’s political integrity was near perfect up until 1975, where political transgressions became prominent in the news. What Gwyn fails to note is the many smaller transgressions that have surfaced prior to 1975, which may not fall into the category of noteworthy (Gibbons & Rowat, 1975). The empirical evidence that must be stated with response to Canada’s political corruption is what is considered by many to be political integrity. What questions must also be answered; are what is considered shabby politics? Is...

The Story of Zahra

...“Women are the only oppressed group in our society that lives in intimate association with their oppressors.” Evelyn Cunningham. Hanan Al Shaykh is a Lebanese novelist, short-story writer and a playwright. She is regarded to be one of the leading contemporary women writers in the Arab world. In fact, she follows Nawal Al Saadawi’s footsteps, especially in her explicit representations of women’s role in the traditional Arab Middle East world. Throughout her works, there is a glimpse of the patriarchal oppression she faces during her life. Not only by her father and brother, but also by the traditions enforced upon her by the neighborhood. The Story of Zahra is seen as Al Shaykh’s first step towards international attention. The novel is divided into two parts. The first part is entitled “The Scars of Peace”, where al-Shaykh foreshadows the miserable life of Zahra as a woman in a patriarchal society. The second part is subtitled “The Torrents of War.” In the second part, Zahra develops to a person who is ready to sacrifice herself in order to stop the war. The novel sheds the light upon how women are being treated as objects of sexuality throughout the Arab Patriarchal World. In fact, women are seen as “Invisible entities.” Hanan Al Shaykh incredibly shows how women are being oppressed and marginalized within the first part of the novel. To begin with, the novel starts by Zahra remembering her early life. She sees her life as a miserable one, where she has always been...

...worth. In the film industry, this is not much, especially since the movie has received amazing reviews from critics such as a 99% from Rotten Tomatoes that calls a “gripping performance” and a 5/5 from Common Sense Media, this is a major injustice. “Selma” tells the story of history and civil rights and the struggle African Americans had to go through to get the rights that we have today. While the movie “American Sniper” with a budget of $58.8 million made a box office of nearly four times its budget at $247.6 million, won seven awards such as Best Director and Best Actor, has created an increase of threats against Arabs and Muslims, won best Movie to open in Iowa, and stole away from “Selma” a movie that is supposed to further equality and peace not hate and bigotry. “American Sniper” is based on a racist war veteran that refers to his targets as “savages”. This movie adds to stereotypes and bigotry in the film industry and the minds of our youth. ...Violence in Video Games Pedro Cachay English (Tuesdays Thursdays) David Cowper 10/15/2013 97% of 12-17 year olds in the US played video games in 2008, this fueling an $11.7 billion domestic video game industry. In 2008, 10 of the top 20 best-selling video games in the US contained violence. Violent video games have been blamed for school shootings, increases in bullying, and violence towards women. Critics argue that these games desensitize players to violence, reward players for simulating violence, and teach children that violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflicts. Video game advocates contend that a majority of the research on the topic is deeply flawed and that no causal relationship has been found between video games and social violence. They argue that violent video games may reduce violence by serving as a substitute for rough and tumble play and by providing a safe outlet for aggressive and angry feelings. As the level of violence in video games has increased, so has concern for the effects on those who play - especially those who play a lot. Many are quick to point out that most school shootings in recent years have been carried out by avid gamers, and their games of choice were always dark and violent. But it begs the question: Which comes first? Can aggressive and violent behavior be attributed to violence in video games? Or do those who play already have violent tendencies which draw them to violent games? It's a type of "chicken or the egg" debate...

American Shooting

...RUCHI Page 1 3/19/2011 American School Shooting’s Mass Shooting’s or multiple murders are people who have killed more then one victim. A mass murderer kills four or more people at one location during one continuous period of time, whether it is a few minutes or a period of days. An example of a mass murder would be Richard Speck, who killed eight student nurses in July of 1966 in a single night in their south Chicago Townhouse. Killers who murder several members of their family also fall under the mass murder category. Sociologists discover school shooters generally act on a perceived wrong done to them by others and view a climatic closure to the situation as the only way out. Frustrations accumulate into rage that motivates a spree. On August 1st 1966, Charles Whitman, a student at the University of Texas in Austin and a Marine, climbed twenty-seven stories up the university’s tower carrying a small arsenal. Upon reaching the top, he barricaded himself on the observation deck, after killing several people inside, and proceeded to randomly shoot people from there. According to Wikipedia, the sniper fire started shortly before noon and continued for several hours, until several police officers managed to gain entry to the observation deck, killing Mr. Whitman. It was later learned that Charles Whitman had complained about severe headaches and that he had a brain tumor, leading to much conjecture that this was the reason for his instability. Mr. Whitman, all in...

Hillary Clinton Changed America

...There are many different opinions of whether Hillary should be President or not, but there are facts to back up both opinions (Wikipedia, 1). Hillary has an extreme amount of experience with the government and also wants to make college cheaper; but within that experience of government, Hillary has lied countless times. She lied about Benghazi and emailed that the attack was caused by al-Qaeda elements, but told the families of the dead Americans the attack was caused by a video. She also said that she and her daughter landed in Bosnia under sniper fire, but a video was recovered of them landing safely to a young girl greeting her with flowers. It was revealed in March of 2015, that Hillary had been using private email accounts and claimed that they were set up in line with the rules and regulations, which is also false (Wikipedia, 1). Hillary believes that vaccines work and adults who do not supply vaccines for their children are ignorant (Blue Nation Review, 1). She also believes that background checks should be a requirement before a gun is purchased. Finally, Hillary supports abortion and LGBT rights which is a contributing factor of why many Democrats are voting for her (ibid,...
