His next album 8701 produced number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 such as, “U Remind Me”, and “U Got It Bad”, which were certified 4-times platinum by the RIAA (“Gold & Platinum”, 2012). In this assignment, a portfolio on artist Usher that contains information on Usher's early life, his musical career, his personal life, philanthropy, two Excel charts that highlights interesting information about Usher's career as an artist, and some 8 to 10 PowerPoint slides that highlights Usher as an artist is prepared.
Early Life of Usher
Usher was born to Jonetta Patton and Usher Raymond III, Usher's father left that family when Usher was just a year old. Usher grew up and spent most of his life in Chattanooga. Usher's singing talents were discovered by his grandmother who realized that he could sing professionally when he joined a singing group. Prior to joining the singing group, Usher was part of the local church youth choir at Chattanooga. In order to provide greater opportunities for Usher to showcase his talents, Usher's family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, which was an ideal environment for beginners in singing. Usher attended the North Springs High School in Atlanta while at the same time pursuing his singing career.

Usher's Musical Career
Usher joined the Rhythm and Blues (R&B) group called NuBeginnings at age 11, and recorded some ten songs with that group in 1991, but the songs that were part of the album Nubeginning Featuring Usher Raymond IV were available only at the regional level and that too by mail order. Usher's mother Jonnetta took him out of the group because she felt it was a bad experience, but the album got a “national release by major-label distributed Hip-O Records” (D'Angelo, 2002) in April 2002.
Usher competed in Star Search, a reality show to identify talented singer at the age of 13. In that show Usher was spotted by an Artists and Repertoire (A&R) representative from the recording label LaFace Records, which after an audition by Usher with its co-founder Reid, “signed the gospel choir boy to a recording contract” (Lane, 2012). Usher recorded the song “Call Me Mack” as part of an album for the Romantic-Drama movie “Poetic Justice” (D'Angelo, 2002). Later in 1994, LaFace released Usher's album that was named after him “Usher”. It contained three singles namely “Can U Get Wit It”, “Think of You”, and “The Many Ways”. The album “Usher” sold as many as 500,000 copies till date.
Usher continued to enhance his skills as a stage performer and readied himself for his second album. In the meantime he also appeared in “Let's Straighten It Out”, a duet that he recorded along with recording artist Monica in Atlanta, and also in “Dreamin” that was part of the “Rhythm of the Games” album that was recorded by LaFace for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games. He also appeared in “I Swear I'm In Love” song of the Kazaam album in 1996. Some of Usher's most popular albums are “My Way”, “Confessions”, “Here I Stand”, “Raymond v. Raymond”, “Versus” and “Looking 4 Myself”. Some 20 million copies of the Confession was sold worldwide out of which some 10 million were sold in the United States alone as show in the chart below.

Here I Stand sold some 5 million copies worldwide and some 1.5 million copies in the United States as shown in the chart below. More information about these albums is presented in the PowerPoint presentation provided.

Personal Life
Usher was married twice, first to Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas and next to Tameka Foster. Usher had two children through Tameka Foster, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond. Usher divorced Tameka Foster in 2009, and a Fulton County Court in the United States granted Usher the primary custody of his two sons. This means that the children will be spending most of their time with their father, but Tameka Foster has some custodial rights that are unclear.
Usher's Philanthropy
New Look, an organization founded by Usher, was founded with the motto of providing “young people with a new look on life through education and real-world experience”. New Look is a not for profit charity organization, and it ran a project called New Look from July 11 to July 23, 2005 in Clark Atlanta University. The charity organization started another initiative called Our Block, which rebuilt and revitalized city blocks in New Orleans. The projected was executed in one street at time in New Orleans, and the funds for the project was raised from Usher's tie-up with Armani Exchange through the “Love 4 Life” dog tags that were sold at the company's stores and through its website. Usher also participated in “Challenge for the Children”, a charity basketball game organized by 'N Sync, and American boy band. This event raised $50,000 for local charities. Besides the above, Usher also participated in Hurricane Katrina Relief Concert, and also in the public service announcement for 'Do Something', a campaign for civic engagement.
Conclusion
From Usher's portfolio one becomes increasingly aware that Usher is not only a successful singer but also a good dancer, lyricist, actor and businessman as well. In addition to it, Usher is also a philanthropist, and this is evident from the charity work that his non-profit organization – New Look does.

Portfolio Project Reflection

...Portfolio Project Reflection As I undertook to study this course, I was apprehensive and worried about Part 4 concerning the project portfolio. At first I had the perception that common diagnostic coding auditing processes are complicated to understand and to use in the medical profession.Until I begin handling part 4 of this project; it is when I realized that medical coding system is a process of assigning numeral values to medical procedures and diagnoses. It is when that I developed an interest in interrogating the medical coding system deeper though it sounded straight forward. This project has enlightened me that in all healthcare settings medical coding system is crucial as it used to develop data for both inpatient and outpatient services. I am also made to be accurate in diagnostic coding and auditing processes, as the success of all medical procedures and diagnoses is dependent on the data from these systems. My awareness of medical coding system, therefore, has been increased throughout this course. For instance, I now know that all medical assessments, quality review and physician reimbursements are all based on medical coding system. I also know that coders, like any other professionals, can get caught in a rut.Such a circumstance may lead to the formulation of bad coding habits with errors that are detrimental to the accuracy needed in this profession. I will apply the knowledge I have gained throughout this medical course to identify areas...

Portfolio Management and Strategic Management

...Portfolio Management and Strategic Management Rebecca Watson CPMGT/301 May 25, 2015 Daryl Hale Portfolio Management and Strategic Management Portfolio management is a method that practices fundamental management techniques to prioritize an organization’s projects against each other. This method is performed in the same way an investor would evaluate a stock portfolio for long-term value, risk, and balance. This process is ideal; enabling an organization to consider and bring about a portfolio of projects to appropriate resources and optimize investments against vital objectives (Robbins Gioia, 2013). Project Portfolio Management (PPM) is used to assist an organization to gain and evaluate details about all its current and upcoming projects. Each project can then be prioritized against others based on criteria such as resources, budget, strategic value and any other impactful elements concerning the organization (Greer, 2009). The advantages to practicing PPM is that is can give the organization a big picture perspective of where its resources are being allocated and how the project deliverables will impact the company goals. According to Robbins Gioia, the traditional approach of project management focuses on cost, prioritizes project time lines, manages and contains problems within the project scope, “and attempt to answer the question: Are we doing things right?” (Robbins Gioia, P. 1). Even with the best project manager (PM) yielding optimal results, that PM has...

Timeless

...Bryce Parker Mrs. Smith English 103-5008 2/18/2016 Timeless What if you could stop time, what would you do? Would you read more books, catch up on television shows, explore the world, contemplate the existence of life or perhaps be deviant? Two groups of people who, I think, would like to experience timelessness are artists and gamers, of which I am both. Not only for the practical reasons of getting things done, but for the quality of the experience each work of art or video game can give. I have a considerable library of games across multiple systems. However, I don't have nearly enough time to play them all, especially in a world where newer games are coming out each day. I have thought of a number of times I wish I had a device like the “Hyperbolic Time Chamber” from the anime series Dragon Ball; which would allow the one that entered it to experience a whole years’ time within the span of a single day. Granted the characters of the series used it to train themselves to fight their newest threat. My purpose would be different, it would give me the time to get though the games I either; found boring at the time, something new came out or have yet to play. Another reason, is to experience full immersion. To be totally entranced within the game, where the world around seems to disappear and the player feels a part of the game; as if they are standing next to the player controlled character or even are the character. Something similar I can compare it to is; when...

Connect the Dots

...Omar Gonzalez AP Language Mrs. Edwards “Connect the dots” Essay 15, December 2011 Today, I am an artist sponsored by Roseta Santiago, who is also an artist. It has been quite a journey full of surprises, mistakes, success, and disappointments. I never expected to make it this far, I could only dream of this to happen to me. Now that my dream is a reality, I am just going to live it and hopefully one day, I’ll make it to the top! As a kid in elementary school, I always loved to doodle on my notes and I would enjoy going to art class and making little clay pots and whatnot. I was just always drawing at home, school, and wherever I was. Even though I would draw a lot, I never thought or believed that it would get me somewhere in life, because you would never think of asking a kid what he or she want to be in life and getting the response: “I want to be an artist”. Once I got into middle school, I had this sudden interest in art because I was alright at it and I really didn’t like anything else. Although I liked it so much, I would still never think of telling people my interest in it. I always thought for the longest time that art was just a hobby, that it wouldn’t get me anywhere. As I went through seventh and eighth grade, my passion and interest in art grew even more. Still, I didn’t like art enough to think of it as an occupation because everyone else would always think to be a doctor or lawyer, I was still “exploring” my options. I got the opportunity to take art...
