...I was brought to the chief's tent, and was told to stand by their sacramental stone. As I was standing there the chief pulled out his knife, and in that moment I knew I was going to die. My name was Hank Russell, and is now Red The Gracious. This story starts off when I was part of the american military. I was in the platoon Smokin Aces. The year was 1824 and the indians began to pick off the army and military warriors one by one. This all started when the white folk broke our peace treaty and took over indian reservations. The peace treaty purty much said that we here white folk could not take land from the indians, they could not attack our warriors, and we can not attack their warriors. We broke that peace treaty a little while back...

...The meaning of Hannah in American, Biblical, as well as hebrew means “gracious”, but the hebrew language also portrays the meaning of Hannah as “favour”. The word gracious, as well as favour is suitable throughout the first three chapters because it is showing how Hanna is gracious/favourable in several ways. According to the dictionary, the definition of gracious is “courteous, kind, and pleasant” which are some of the many qualities that Hannah has, therefore making her name mostly suitable for her character. The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen states, “‘it doesn’t matter if you make a mistake, Ron-ron, but if you do, I’ll be right there next to you. I’ll whisper it into your ear just like they do in plays when someone forgets a line.’”(5) What Yolen might be trying to show is how Hannah is assuring Aaron (Ron-ron) that if he does mess up, it isn’t the end of the world and no matter what, she will be right there with him....

...as everyone else in the kingdom. I have always thought that Duncan “resembled my father” (II.ii.16-17) thus I cared for him as someone more than a king and “held [him close] to my heart” (I.iv.35-36). Duncan was a very civil, gracious, and loving person who never crossed anyone or caused anyone problems. He was the best king that we could have ever hoped for. Everyone loved him, and only a complete monster would see of him as anything less. Our castle had always had a “pleasant seat” (I.vi.87) for him and I had always been an “honored hostess” (I.vi.13) in his presence....

...There is much prayerless praying. The attitude and semblance of prayer are in it, but there is no real praying, no projecting of the desires with vigor and in a flame to heaven. The form and show are seen, but the substance and being of prayer are entirely absent. Prayers have been said, the performance gone through, but no real praying has been done. As far as any real benefit is secured, the turning the crank of a praying machine would have done as well. Prayerless prayers are not only a perversion, a waste, a delusion, but they manufacture unbelievers by the score. They get no answers and produce no gracious results. They are vain performances, and others recognize their emptiness and barren results. Men hear of the prodigious benefits secured by prayer, of the matchless good promised in God’s word to prayer, and they mark at once the great gulf between the results promised and results realized… Prayerless praying lacks the essential element of true praying; it is not based on desire and is devoid of earnestness and faith. Desire burdens the chariot of prayer, and faith drives its sense of need; there is no ardency because there is no vision, strength, or glow of faith. There is no mighty pressure to pray, no holding on to God with the relentless, despairing grasp, “I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” There is no utter self-abandon, lost in the throes of a desperate, pertinacious, and consuming plea, “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me...

...loves Hermia. To quote Lysander: “The course of true love never did run smooth,” (I.i.134) In many ways the strong emotion of love drives this hectic story. In the story Hermia is the princess of the kingdom. She loves lysander, yet she is forbidden to marry him by her father, Egeus. “Full of vexation come I, with complaint Against my child, my daughter Hermia.Stand forth, Demetrius. My noble lord,This man hath my consent to marry her. Stand forth, Lysander: and my gracious duke, This man hath bewitch'd the bosom of my child;Thou, thou, Lysander, thou hast given her rhymes,And interchanged love-tokens with my child:Thou hast by moonlight at her window sung,With feigning voice verses of feigning love,And stolen the impression of her fantasy With bracelets of thy hair, rings, gawds, conceits,Knacks, trifles, nosegays, sweetmeats, messengers. Of strong prevailment in unharden'd youth:With cunning hast thou filch'd my daughter's heart, Turn'd her obedience, which is due to me,To stubborn harshness: and, my gracious duke,Be it so she; will not here before your grace. Consent to marry with Demetrius,I beg the ancient privilege of Athens, As she is mine, I may dispose of her: Which shall be either to this gentleman. Or to her death, according to our law Immediately provided in that case.” Egeus (I,1,26) To escape this fate, Hermia and Lysander plan to meet in the wood at midnight, to marry outside of athens at a relatives of...

It was like witnessing an endless cycle as they gave back to each other with their time and energy. Their actions informed of how gracious those living the Bethany House are, and how happy they are to have a place they can go home to for comfort. It truly amazed me. What I learned about myself, is that I really enjoyed helping the Bethany House. I learned that I love helping organizations in which I get to see and understand how I helped them. I loved seeing the people that I am possibly helping. It motivates me to stay involved with the Bethany House as they continue to grow and help more...

...Who is God? God is God. God is different to different people, to many He is the Almighty, conquering and definite epitome of a hero. And to some he is a Saviour, friend and companion. And to others, God is everything. He is a friend, the pillow that they cry on, and the One who is with them in battles. He is the Almighty and the friend. And ultimately God is our Saviour. We as humans are needy, according to C.S Lewis, we have this innate need for love, and care and affection; how much ever we try to deny it, called Need-Love. It is the kind of love that we require when we feel alone or scared. We are needy, and we go to God when we are needy. It is this sweet spot that God tells us to translate in ourselves and be kind and generous to those who are in need. We have this need to clean this record of all the wrong and start anew; we can have this with God. We need someone who is going to accept us with grace no matter what our history or track record shows. God tells the Israelites to be Holy for He is also Holy. God calls them out to be generous and kind to those who are needy. God reminds them that they too were once in bondage, and that God had delivered them from this bondage. In the Old Testament, Israelites are shown to do this by adhering to the festival of Sabbath. Sabbath is the day where they follow the example of God, whereby God created the entire universe and rested on the seventh day. The Israelites in the same way practiced Sabbath in their daily lives....

...In the English language, an alphabet letter is often referred to as a “character.” In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, he presents the letter “A” as a primary character. Throughout the novel, the meaning of the “A” continuously changes and has different meanings for different characters as well. Specifically, Hawthorne indicates that the “A” signifies “Adultery”, “Able”, and “Angel”. Additionally, throughout The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne suggests that the letter “A” signifies abandonment in that Hester abandons traditional Puritan society and her femininity, and she is abandoned by Dimmesdale when he reaches salvation and ultimately dies. When Hester commits adultery, she immediately abandons the strict Puritan ideals of the society that surrounds her. In this theocratic society, where “religion and law were almost identical,” a sin is equivalent to a crime and is therefore severely looked down upon (35). Hester demonstrates her rejection of Puritan society by acting by her own free will: “she repelled him, by action marked with natural dignity and force of character, and stepped into the open air, as if by her own free-will” (36). In Puritan society, there is no free will. The concept of predestination confirms that the choice of whether a person is going to heaven or hell is already made and therefore, one’s actions cannot change that decision. Bearing the elegantly embroidered scarlet letter on her chest and her illegitimate baby on her bosom, Hester proudly demonstrates...

...“Eschatology: The Destiny of the Unsaved” Reconciling a good, loving God with the idea of eternal punishment is one of the most difficult things I have had to do in my Christian life. How can a God who loves us enough to shed His own blood for us then, at the end of our lives, send some of us away from Him to be punished forever? There are some different theories about what happens to us after we die. Eternal punishment is the idea that sin must be punished and those who have not received the gift of salvation will be punished forever for their sins. Annihilationism is the idea that, rather than eternal punishment, some souls will simply cease to exist. There are three main forms of this. The first says that all human beings simply cease to exist at death. The second says that God imparts immorality to the redeemed human beings and allows the rest of humankind to cease to exist at death. The third says that humankind is immortal and fulfills its destiny in salvation. In this third form of annihilationism, reprobates cease to exist, either by a direct act of God or by the corrosive effect of evil. Universalism claims that all will be saved. The Bible uses some different words when referring to a place of torment. Sheol is the word used in the Hebrew texts to describe a place where all souls go after death. Hades is the Greek equivalent. Sheol is a much broader word referring simply to the place where souls go upon death. Hades narrows the concept somewhat and separates...

...Barack Obama The office of the American presidency is a multi-faceted occupation that requires many kinds of leadership styles. This hub briefly discusses some of the hats worn by American President Barack Obama over the past four years. Mostly the article focuses on three broad leadership styles including transformational-charismatic, cross-cultural, and contingency-situational leadership. Recently, I added the opinion polls to allow you to rate how you think President Obama has faired in these areas and overall. Please feel free to participate. Transformational-charismatic Before the election, President Barack Obama attracted the attention of American's and foreigners alike with a seemingly charismatic nature. A charismatic leader has an uncanny ability to draw others to his side and move them to accomplish a cause bigger than themselves. A charismatic approach is transformational if it invokes a permanent change in the people who embrace the leader's vision. During his first term, President Obama wooed at least some to his vision by showing the potential to make a huge difference in both domestic and foreign affairs Cross-Cultural-Global Leadership Under the Bush Administration, America's image lost much of its shine. This was mostly due to a unilateral, ethnocentirc foreign policy espoused by Bush and Cheney. While not taking America's safety needs for granted, President Obama formulated a more cross-cultural approach to the world, thinking not only...
