...Visualize Your Best Self: Even though I scored the 15 in three categories of the multiple intelligence survey (Verbal/Linguistic, Logic/Mathematical and Musical/Rhythmic), my strongest learning style of the three is Verbal (Linguistic). I embrace this style more and the others follow closely behind. I enjoy reading and writing, sharing or teaching others as well as the play on words and their meaning. I’ve also found that I learn best by reading, taking notes, outlining chapters, highlighting and lectures. The book defines this as being “word smart.” My mother taught secondary education and this was also her style of learning which proved to be very influential in the development of my learning style as well. I recall when school was out in the summer being drilled with mathematical flash cards to keep my skills sharp, weekly trips to the local library to improve my reading ability and writing or giving oral book reports. I was challenged with crossword puzzles and brainteasers to develop and further my ability to solve problems as well as recognize patterns which developed my Logic/Mathematical learning style. Finally, I study and even work with music playing and/or humming commercial or TV show jingles and that identified my Musical/Rhythmic learning style. These styles were all part of my learning development. As a parent, I also embraced these same styles in the development of my children’s learning styles. At the time of selecting my preferred course of study...

...August 9 2012 by Brad Remillard So how do you motivate your top talent to achieve the company’s goals? How do you keep them from contacting recruiters? How do you keep them passionate about coming to work? How do you keep them engaged day after day? The answer to all of these is “culture.” Even in difficult times top talent, by definition, will always rise to the occasion. They will always strive to be the best. If they don’t, they aren’t top talent. However, even top talent can burn out, get frustrated, not see the light at the end of the tunnel or wonder if they are really contributing. It is the role of all CEOs and managers to ensure these things don’t happen. There seems to be a consistent theme as to what great managers do in difficult times to hold on to and even attract top talent. The following are seven areas managers must focus on to ensure they keep their top talent motivated: 1) Companies must have a performance based culture. Even in difficult times there must be clearly defined goals for the company. These goals must cascade down to your top talent. They must have quantifiable objectives that motivate them, so when reached, they feel a sense of accomplishment. Providing specific time based goals with achievable results clarifies exactly what is expected of your people. Your best talent will embrace the goals and not stop until they reach the goal. Employee engagement is critical to retaining your best people. 2) Dysfunctional culture. This is probably the...

...know themselves already that is why they decline to do self-assessment regularly. Experts say that these people don’t realize that the more that they decline doing self-reassessment, the more that they get stuck to their own routine which leaves them lesser room for improvement. If you want to start with constant self-motivation, it is best that you know yourself very well. If you know yourself well, you will know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. Once you were able to identify all of these, it will be easier for you to set goals for yourself that are within your reach and your capabilities. Knowing one's self will also enable you to take note of your weaknesses and find ways on how to overcome, manage, and deal with them. The same works for your strengths because you might even find a way on how to improve them. Start with small and simple goals. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. If you are just starting with self-motivation, it will be best if you start small and simple so you won't feel defeat when you weren't able to meet the standards you have set for yourself. If you start with small and simple things, you are giving yourself the chance to accomplish bigger things ahead. Keep track of your progress. Monitoring how well or bad you are doing will help you maneuver things that find ways that would best work for you. For a person who is just starting with his or her self-motivation process, it is best to keep track of how you are doing so you will know...

...SELF CONCEPT The self-concept is the accumulation of knowledge about the self, such as beliefs regarding personality traits, physical characteristics, abilities, values, goals, and roles. Beginning in infancy, children acquire and organize information about themselves as a way to enable them to understand the relation between the self and their social world. This developmental process is a direct consequence of children's emerging cognitive skills and their social relationships with both family and peers. During early childhood, children's self-concepts are less differentiated and are centered on concrete characteristics, such as physical attributes, possessions, and skills. During middle childhood, the self-concept becomes more integrated and differentiated as the child engages in social comparison and more clearly perceives the self as consisting of internal, psychological characteristics. Throughout later childhood and adolescence, the self-concept becomes more abstract, complex, and hierarchically organized into cognitive mental representations or self-schemas, which direct the processing of self-relevant information. Understanding your self-concept It is the understanding and knowledge you have of your own existence. It is how you see yourself in relation to others and to your surroundings. To have a positive or healthy self-concept you must: Know yourself Love yourself Be True to yourself In order to meet the challenges of today's complicated...

It is my understanding that you were administratively placed at this elementary school due to some professional issues at your previous school. I know that you have only been teaching for 2 months and thus I would like to help you in any areas that need to be strengthened. Teaching is a challenging career. When you begin teaching, you feel as though all you need to do is to stand up in the classroom and teach. Your teacher educational classes unfortunately did not prepare you for the realities of teaching that often consist of dealing with problem students, aggressive and non supportive parents, difficult administrative staff, back stabbing co workers, as well as the constant planning and organization as an elementary school teacher. After being in the profession for almost 20 years as an elementary school educator with a an undergraduate degree in English and a graduate degree in Education, I am still learning but I know that I have years of experience to share with others to improve their skills. When I first started teaching, I did feel completely lost in my teaching abilities. However, a mentor teacher took me under her wings and enabled me to fly and I became successful. Without her guidance, I probably would have quit the profession. I realized that it was necessary for me to make mistakes until I could focus on what worked for me best. You must do the same. With over 90% of real life fights ending on the ground, it is clear that the opponent who is the best at ground fighting will ultimately have the upper hand. During your life there may definitely be some situations where you may prefer to try and stay on your feet and rely on your MMA striking skills, such as facing multiple opponents in a bar. However, experienced Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioners like Jean Jacques Machado and Chad LeBrun of The Lab Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Fredericksburg, VA, have proven that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the most effective fighting style against multiple attackers and even armed assailants....

...Reaction Paper The whole seminar is the longest yet the best seminar that I have attended. I had a chance to gain knowledge from the two intelligent and beautiful speakers. The first speaker talked about “Self-esteem”. She told us that each of us should build up our self-esteem. I agree to her when she said that high self-esteem is very important for us to achieve our dreams. Through high self-esteem, I will be able to face all the problems, whether they are simple or a worst one. I should trust myself that I can do my goal. Because If I do not believe in myself then who will? There is one thing about the first lady speaker said that really confused me. She said that, “Your self is your best friend.” In my opinion, a best friend is a friend that motivates us, a friend who is always there for us, who believes in our capabilities, and a friend that understands us. God is one of my best friends. My family, classmates, friends, and other people that are very special to me are also my best friends. Somehow, what she have said is somewhat true. I should be a best friend for myself. I should believe, understand, love, and take care of myself like a best friend does. In that way, other people would also do the same. I believe to her that “What you think of yourself is what others think of you too.” What you do and how you treat you self is what others will do to you. The second speaker spoke about “How you present yourself with other people in corporate world.” She is also...

...English 100 3 December 2013 How to Develop Self Confidence Self-confidence is defined as “the feeling of trust in one’s ability, qualities and judgment. Self-confidence is a very important part of life. Low self-confidence can lead to paralyzing of the brain and the body. When you have low self-confidence it is harder for you to make decisions because you have a lack of trust in yourself. The lack of trust in yourself can lead to failures or inability to achieve success. When we have self-confidence we feel reassured that we are making the right decisions. When you increase your level of confidence you tend to increase your ability to succeed because you are more likely to try something then with low self-confidence. Also people with low self-confidence statistically have been shown to handle situations in a more positive way. Self-confidence has been strongly correlated with the ability to be happy. This is because having self-confidence means that you feel you are capable of doing great things and capable of using your judgment. The ability to build self-confidence can lead to you being happier but also being less anxious about situations. The following are steps to building self confidence. When you accomplish self confidence you believe in your ability to achieve goals and accept who you are. Prepare for the journey Surround yourself with positive influences such as friends and family. ...intelligence sets apart which leaders, professionals, or scientists will be the best leaders (Schawbel, 2011).” While IQ is an important part of being a successful leader, emotional IQ accounts for an outstanding successful leader. Emotional IQ requires knowing oneself and using the emotional part to be able to interact and connect with people. When one is a leader, they are responsible for leading others to fulfill goals; whether it’s a particular project, making a company more successful, or guiding people to do well. A leader is an influencer, a visionary, a decision-maker. Daniel Goleman is one of the top leading psychologists in the world and he believes that the most successful leaders are that way due to 90% emotional intelligence and intellectual intelligence contributes only 45% (Emotional Intelligence). To be an outstanding leader, it is important to understand their emotional intelligence IQ (EIQ). There are four factors to gauge the EIQ. 2.2 Self-awareness In order to effectively understand those that the leader is over, he/she must understand themselves. This means knowing and understanding your emotions or getting to know yourself. Many times we are busy looking at other people and what their strengths and weaknesses are and we do not take our own into account. To become a better leader, you must acknowledge that you do not know everything. This is a big part of self-awareness. When you realize that you have weaknesses and then strive to find...
