...Bringing Generations Together For a Better World Good afternoon everyone: It is often stated in the newspapers that young people are not interested in politics or the problems in our society. It is said that young people are passive, and do not want to take active roles in society. Is this claim true? Are the young people of our time more passive than their parents were when they were young; do they only care about their own interests? I would like to address you on this matter today and talk about the different ways that young people are being active in today's world even if those ways may not be valued very highly by our society. According to recent surveys it is true that young people are not very interested in politics. But instead of simply blaming young people for passiveness and laziness, we could further examine the reasons for this lack of interest. Voting is considered the most important way of influencing domestic policy and getting one's voice heard. People in general are not as interested in politics as before. And if the parents do not exercise their right to vote, it is understandable that children follow the example of staying home on Election Day. Another reason for the lack of interest in politics among young people could be the fact none of the big parties really promised any changes to the student benefits or educational opportunities. So, who do you vote for, when all the parties promise the same things and when none of those promises actually...

...Japanese for a Brighter Future Planning a meeting with any international or foreign subjects can be daunting if one does not get accustomed to the culture of the other group first. My agenda before meeting with the Japanese is to: First of all register the services of an interpreter so as to be fully involved in the discussion though it would be a good sign to learn some Japanese; this will show that I have an interest in the culture. I also have to be careful with my choice of topics in conversation. Some topics are taboo like the world War 11 and could ruin the entire meeting. To verify who will attend and how long the meeting will take is important because Japanese value collectivism and thus come in groups. They regard themselves as representatives for their country I need to avoid mention of business for the first 15 minutes of the conversation and should remember not to address any of the gentlemen by first name. The Japanese do not like to be rushed, thus patience is important. I should be prepared to repeat myself patiently and not exhibit any signs of irritation. The first part of the meeting is for introductions and getting to know each other and this is the stage where business cards are exchanged. Finding out who is the eldest or senior man could earn me some trust due to the fact that the Japanese want me to address my remarks to the senior man. The debating style is another important factor. The Japanese will do business with me only if they trust me; appearance...

...THE POWER OF CULTURE TO CREATE A BETTER FUTURE Culture is a word, etymologically, driven from the Latin language from the word ‘cultura’ meaning to cultivate. This connotes growing of personality. This entails forming the seed of an individual’s character and life into societal structure. By cultivation, one is schooled in the beliefs and practical attitudes of a particular group of people who own the culture. However, the word culture is most commonly used in three basic senses: excellence of taste in fine arts and humanities; an integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behaviour that depends upon the capacity for symbolic thought and social learning; shared attitudes, values, and goals. Culture has been defined as the totality of way of life evolved by a people in their attempts to meet the challenges of living in their environment, which gives order and meaning to their social, political, economic, and religious norms and modes of organization, thus distinguishing a people from their neighbours. The understanding of personhood, one’s immanent metaphysics and the idea of phenomenal inquiry into the existence generally is rooted in culture. Culture explains, a great deal, the reason why one acts the way one does. Culture shapes man. It makes man read into his environment as to understand what exactly informs a people’s life style and how the people’s worldview cuts into their life world(by analysis of their existential structure). The explanation of culture opens...

...design. All these factors help in drastically improving the productivity of the designer that translates into fast designing, lower designing cost and shorter project completion times. Improve the quality of the design: With the CAD software the designing professionals are offered large number of tools that help in carrying out thorough engineering analysis of the proposed design. The tools also help designers to consider large number of investigations. Since the CAD systems offer greater accuracy, the errors are reduced drastically in the designed product leading to better design. Eventually, better design helps carrying out manufacturing faster and reducing the wastages that could have occurred because of the faulty design. Better communications: The next important part after designing is making the drawings. With CAD software better and standardized drawings can be made easily. The CAD software helps in better documentation of the design, fewer drawing errors, and greater legibility. Creating documentation of the designing: Creating the documentation of designing is one of the most important parts of designing and this can be made very conveniently by the CAD software. The documentation of designing includes geometries and dimensions of the product, its subassemblies and its components, material specifications for the components, bill of materials for the components etc. Creating the database for manufacturing: When the creating the data for the...

...information about the relative worth of an employee. It is a systematic periodic and an impartial rating of an employee's excellence in matters pertaining to his present job and his potential for a better job. A good appraisal system provides right feedback about the quality of performance of an employee. In spite of dislike by several employees, performance appraisal has become an inescapable feature. It imparts benefits not only to the employees but also on supervisors and management. Performance appraisal is defined as a process by which manager determine if the requirements of a particular job have been successfully accomplished by the person being evaluated or as a process that ensures that employees behaviors match organizational objectives. Performance appraisal historically was used for hourly wage earners and to distinguish between high and low performers on the job. However, today they are used for all job types and aid in decisions about salary, promotions, ways to improve job performance, career counseling, and for identifying problem areas. Although performance appraisals are a necessity, both managers and employees alike tend to dread them. For employees, their future within the organization depends on the outcome of the appraisal, their salaries, promotion ability, and future responsibilities. From a management point of view, one has to be judgmental, yet maintain a trust-worthy relationship with the employee and stay well within the guidelines as to avoid any EEOC...

...Afghanistan is doing more harm than good, and it should be discontinued; the practice has caused Afghanistan countries to become vulnerable to inflation, currency fluctuations, corruption, and civil unrest. I've learned that proper education, government control, and environmental development would help the poor become more prosperous and independent. I feel that this practice is a lot more beneficial than sending over government aid. Although there are some pros I feel that the cons may out weigh the pros in this particular situation. In this paper I'm going to attempt to give examples of how foriegn aid has both hindered and helped the government in Afghanistan make a turnaround, however some of the aspects may not look so good in the future. Also I will discuss the influences both negative and postive the government has on foreign aid and corruption. Right now the Afghan economy is in a very vulnerable state because they have been at war for almost 35 years. Afghanistan is about to go into an uphill battle because they have several factors that are heavy impactors that are affecting the country. For example their are still many political and security uncertainties. Their was also a presidential election that took place back in April of 2014. Their is a very vast amount of corruption in the government as well as bad governance all together. However in light of these little pitfalls the economy as well as the security have improved somewhat in Afghanistan. One of the reasons...

...The Past, Present, and Future of Jeeps Since the mid 40s, Jeeps have been improving their vehicles. Jeep has made improvements to make their vehicles to be more fuel efficient, use less metal, and also safer. This is an important part of keeping the Jeeps alive because if there are no improvements made to the Jeep, people would not continue to purchase them. Jeeps have been the backbone of America since they were first made. Jeeps have evolved in so many ways from the past to the present and are continuing to evolve into the future. The Cj’s series started back in the 40s, but the one Jeep covered in this paper will be the Cj-7. The Cj-7 came about in 1976 and roughly 379,000 were produced. This was the start of the Jeep that the public could actually use because it had better drivability and more space. The Cj-7 was just like the Cj-5 except the Cj-7 was extended to give more space. The drivability was improved by the addition of anti-swat bars. Another addition to the Cj-7 was a steering stabilizer allowing the Jeep to have a less probability to go into the death wobble. The death wobble is where the front tires whip back and forth making the driver lose control. Another option was the Quadra-Trac, which was an automatic four-wheel drive system. With this type of four-wheel drive system, it allowed for an automatic transmission. This was another way the Cj-7 was made to be more of a civilian vehicle. There were many different types of packages that the Cj-7...

...ASSIGNMENT 2 (EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT) 1. What is employee engagement and how does it differ, if at all, from related concepts like employee involvement, employee participation and employee consultation? How far is employee engagement something which is genuinely new and distinctive, or is it merely a repackaging of old and well-established ideas? (C) Dilbert.com Employee Engagement – A sanity check Before we look at employee engagement, two things to take into account: A quote attributed to Benjamin Disraeli (despite never appearing in any of his memoirs) “There are lies, damned lies and statistics.” (Wikipedia) There are an increasing number of publications, surveys and studies on employee engagement, with the number steadily increasing for at least a decade. Google Scholar currently lists some 99,100 articles related to employee engagement, with 6460 already in 2012. (Google) Employee Engagement - Origin Employee engagement is neither a new concept nor repackaged old-hat – it is an evolution of how employees have been treated within a company, and how they respond to that treatment. “Before the Industrial Revolution, most, if not all, business was local – the corner shop (store), the family farm. Then the industrial revolution changed what we did, where we lived and what businesses focussed on.” (Achievers) In the post war era, main industry was formed around the mass production model where an employee would perform a set task and have no need to know about how other...

...Assignment Title: Changing Our Lives Name: Professors Name: Course Title: Eng090 Date: 4/22/2012 Changing Our Lives At this time in my life, after thinking long and hard about what I’m doing and where I’m heading, I came to the conclusion that going to college would be the best thing to do for myself and my future. I was living on a small island in Greece playing soccer for a professional team. I loved playing soccer because it was fun and it made me happy. While I was playing in a game I got seriously injured to my knee and needed surgery. After my knee surgery I wasn’t able to play the same way and after much thought I decided to stop playing soccer. A friend’s friend offered me a job as a waiter in one of the hotels on the island. I didn’t like working as a waiter and I didn’t see myself doing it for the rest of my life. My salary was not enough to live on, especially for what I had to go through with customers and other staff on a daily basis. Working as a waiter wasn’t for me. Living on a small island with tourism as the biggest source of income providing just a few months out of the year as a time where you can find employment was difficult. For the rest of the year, work was hard to find and so I spent the rest of...

...will not attempt to fulfill any goals they set for themselves. To attend college a student has to be highly motivated especially dealing with heavy loads of assignments that he/she has to face in order to complete a class to graduate and be successful in the future. For example, a student can set up a success plan such as academic goals to ensure having a certain G.P.A and maintaining it throughout the school year. By doing this he/she has to be motivated to get good grades in assignments, quizzes, and tests. As for me, becoming a better writer means to have my point clear enough so that a reader can comprehend what is written. In order for me to become a better writer motivation is important in order to improve my weaknesses. My main weaknesses in writing are making sure my sentence structure is correct and putting my thoughts together so that they flow. Having motivation to improve will help me look at my sentences and take a step back so that I can make sure they are right. Also, so I can see where my mistakes are being made. It will also help me to do brainstorming exercise when writing papers so that I can make sure my thoughts are executed on paper as well as they are in my head. The first step in becoming a better writer is knowing what needs work and understanding that even our strengths can use some improvement as well. My strengths include good thoughts and understating what I am writing about. My thought process is good when writing and I can easily put together...

...Today, different kinds of problems were encountered by the world. We cannot deny that everyone was a reason for all of these worst destructions of humanity. And I do believe that it is also everyone that can help in changing and molding the world to become a better place to live in for the future generations. I, Jhon Kenneth Alejandre, know that this world could be the place for the youth of today. We can all gather up and be one as we continue to prove the importance of youth to this world and as we develop our ways of youth empowerment. Through youth empowerment or the structural process, young ones like me, regardless of social status, will gain the ability; authority and agency that could help us make decisions for our own lives. This would not only improve our youth of today, but would also be the key to intergenerational equity, civic engagement and democracy building. Youth is a big influence to the lives of many. The young people are the valuables of this world. We are the builders, the changers. Just like what our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal said, “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” It is us, the youth that were entrusted by our ancestors to give a better and improved life to the next generations. We would be the gateway for improvement. Let us help each other in creating a productive society for the world. If we are not going to act right now, who will? No one can take the place of the youth in this world. We are living not only for our own sake but also for the...

...to that goal. In order to have financial success in life, you need to work hard and always give 110%. That’s not to say you can’t have that stability in life without college education but, I think you would have a better grasp on how to manage finances with that under your belt. Leonard Boswell once said “The American Dream is one of success, home ownership, college education for one’s children, and have a secure job to provide these and other goals”, and to exceed that “American dream” you go to college, you put in the effort and you come out with that success in your grasp, and that is important to me. Going to college doesn’t just open a door to unlimited learning; it opens a gateway to thousands of incredible opportunities. A college education opens up the door for a lesser chance of you not getting a good job. Having a college degree tells potential work places that you are determined and serious-minded about your future, which can reward you with the triumph of a great job. Also by having a good education, you are more likely to be able to choose the exact career path you want instead of settling for the lower end job or the first one that falls in your lap. When you think about it, all this time that you are most likely going to spend building your future and career, makes getting a college education seem more and more essential every day. When you get out of high school you don’t really...
