...The Big Five Theory of Personality There are five components to the Big 5 Theory of Personality that play a part into his paper. It is often referred to as the OCEAN model of personality, because the acronym comes from the names of the five dimensions, which are: • Openness to Experience/Intellect • Conscientiousness • Extraversion • Agreeableness • Neuroticism. The Openness trait relates to characteristics that are high on imagination and insight, and have a variety of different interests. Conscientiousness is related to the thoughtfulness of an individual, goal-oriented, very organized, and good impulse to control different situations. Extraversion is a trait that comes with an individual that likes to talk, assertiveness, and can have a high amount of different emotions. Agreeableness is a trait that an individual may have to show kindness, affection, trust, and other calming and thoughtful behaviors. Lastly, Neuroticism is when an individual can have high anxiety, mood swings, irritability, sadness or anger. After taking the personality test I am able to tell you where I fall into each of these five dimensions. Here are the results for each trait: • Openness to Experience/Intellect o You are relatively open to new experiences. o Your percentile: 76 I always want to try new things whether it’s work, school, an activity, or an experience. I hate routine things; I get bored very easily with anything repetitive, which is why I believe I scored highly on the openness...

...Big Five Essay April 20, 2011 1 The Big Five can describe an individual’s personality traits, and in order I will be explaining each of the five in detail. After getting through the five psychological traits we will notice that it will spell the word “ocean” and this mnemonic will help us in remembering the Big Five. Openness to experience is the first trait out of the five. People that are open appreciate art; whether it is in the form of music, poetry, or just being creative. Traveling and being curious also strike their attention because they are open to new ideas and views. They can have a vivid imagination and have a wide range of interest. Most people who are open tend to let their intuition guide them when it comes to decision making. Out of all these great qualities, on the other hand they can be just the opposite; complex, uncreative, and conventional. These are not necessarily bad qualities; everyone has their ups and downs. The second trait is conscientiousness. People who carry this trait are tidy and keep things well organized. They are reliable in the work environment and could end up being work alcoholics. The need for achievement is craved by a conscientious individual, and they tend to make impulsive decisions. Some of the other traits they may possess are, self-disciplined, thoughtful, and careful. A person who is conscientiousness may also be careless, undependable, quitting, and disorganized. Next is extraversion which is opposite...

...The Big Five The Big Five Traits in personality are Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness to Experience; each of the Big Five have their facets. For two examples, Extraversion traits are warmth, gregariousness, assertiveness, activity, excitement seeking, positive emotions. Agreeableness traits are trust, straightforwardness, altruism, compliance, modesty, and tender-mindedness. Personally I feel I fall under Neuroticism the traits are anxiety, angry hostility, depression, self-consciousness, impulsiveness, and vulnerability. After I great deal of thinking about my life now and in the past I can see this is where I fit in as far as my personality traits go. I have a good bit of anxiety and I have had depression also. I feel I leave myself vulnerable with others at times, or I set myself up in the past to get hurt. I have gotten angry easily but not what I would call hostility. I have shown impulsiveness traits I think more so in the past than now. Now I am more laid back in behavior, even though my emotions still can get the best of me and my thinking. I can see myself with Extraversion traits also, I am gregariousness, and my warmth with others as well as excitement seeking, again more so in my past than now. I am more cautions since I became a mother, however, I still like to have fun and seek some excitement. I also fall into the Agreeableness traits with straightforwardness and trust. My qualities here are also love, cooperation...

...How can the “Big 5” personality dimensions enhance acculturation? Provide an example (situation or scenario) for each of the 5 dimensions. 1. Extraversion Those with this personality trait have the tendency to be more outgoing, energetic, sociable, assertive and talkative in the company of others. Besides that, extraverts are highly motivated to seek social situations and are normally associated with leadership, thus are likely to be dominant in those situations. Certainly motivated by change and challenge, they are seen as adaptive, ambitious and hardworking which helps them to acculturate better. Take for example if an American extravert was to come and live in Singapore, being more sociable and outgoing, he would attempt to initiate and sustain social relations with the locals. Upon making more friends with perhaps different cultural groups, it would give him plenty of knowledge of the different cultures and language skills or patois like ‘Singlish’, for his performance of daily tasks in Singapore and thus be able to adapt better. 2. Agreeableness This trait reflects how well an individual values getting along with others by being more considerate, friendly, generous, they show their willingness to compromise their interests with others. They also have an optimistic view of human nature. Individuals with this trait strive for intimacy and solidarity in groups they belong to, which provides emotional rewards for they get along well with others. One example would...

...Jillian McDonough ADMN 575 Wednesday 5:30 pm Big Five Across the world, we can classify people using a general system called “Big Five.” The five traits used are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience. Some people value the understanding of people and their “big five” traits to help with job placement. It is also important for managers to have an understanding of their employee’s personality traits to help relate to their lives. Others argue that personality is too complex to identify into five specific types. There are two kinds of people in this world, one being extraverts and the other being introverts. It is possible for a person to be an extravert but show some qualities of introversion and vice versa. In general, energy is either obtained from social interaction or from time alone. In a work environment, a person who is an extravert might be able to complete their tasks more quickly than introverts. Extraverts are generally confident and self-assured making it a breeze when it comes to completing assignments. They have an idea and they act on it immediately. While an introvert may be slower at completing tasks at work, the quality of their work may be better than those of an extravert. Introverts are more timid and like to think before they speak or take action. They like to be given time before completing assignments, writing papers, etc. This allows for their thoughts to come together making them feel...

That actually shocked me! My highest score was my extraversion, which did not surprise me at all. I believe the agreeableness is the aspect that can work the best at the workplace. The fact of being able to get along with others is huge in the workplace and people see that as strength. If you choose to print the report, selecting landscape orientation for your paper will display the graphs properly. Using portrait orientation (normally the default for printers) will cause the graphs to wrap around and render them unreadable. This report compares KVN from the country USA to other men between 21 and 40 years of age. (The name used in this report is either a nickname chosen by the person taking the test, or, if a valid nickname was not chosen, a random nickname generated by the program.) This report estimates the individual's level on each of the five broad personality domains of the Five-Factor Model. The description of each one of the five broad domains is followed by a more detailed description of personality according to the six subdomains that comprise each domain. A note on terminology. Personality traits describe, relative to other people, the frequency or intensity of a person's feelings, thoughts, or behaviors. Possession of a trait is therefore a matter of degree. We might describe two individuals as extraverts, but still see one as more extraverted than the other. This report uses expressions such as "extravert" or "high in extraversion" to describe someone who is...

...The Big Five Personality Traits Kelly Wilson Benedictine University Organizational Behavior MGT 320-D2A5 Teresa Pavone November 06, 2015 The Big Five Personality Traits Personality traits reflect people’s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Motivation is a factor that is highly dependent upon personality and because of this, managers must be able to recognize and respond to the different traits. Personality has been studied extensively throughout the years and researchers have found five distinct personality traits that are most relevant to organization; agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion and openness. Because of the way personality influences a person’s performance, these are referred to as the “big five” personality traits (Griffin & Moorhead, 2014, p. 66). Agreeableness Agreeableness is the ability of a person to get along with those around them. Individuals who possess this trait tend to be forgiving, understanding of others’ needs, forgiving, open and good natured (Griffin & Moorhead, 2014, p. 66). An agreeable person is also more likely to be trusting and helpful (Pappas, 2013, para. 4). One way to motivate someone who is agreeable is to include them in the onboarding process for new staff. This will appeal to their personality because they will be in a position to help new staff members, as well as give them a sense of responsibility. Conscientiousness A highly conscientious person is organized...

...Propose solutions for working together using the information from the Big Five assessments and the underlying principles of trait theories. In today’s job market, team work or groups have become very popular. Most workplaces put together teams, and this allows different personality types the opportunity to brainstorm and come up with ways to improve business. Personality is one thing that distinguishes one person from another. Psychologists argue that personality attributes are inherited from family members, and different cultures. No matter the situation, personality differences are among people at work. In team settings it is important that each member has and keeps respect for one another, or the team will fall apart and the task at hand will not reach full potential. The Big Five personality assessments show that the impact of group personalities would be more creative at brainstorming and have a greater chance of finishing the tasks at hand. According to Buchanan, at the group level, it was predicted that teams with personality patterns consisting of moderate levels of Extraversion, high levels of Openness to Experience, and high levels of Conscientiousness (optimal pattern) would perform significantly better on an innovative task than teams with personality patters that varied from this type of pattern (Buchanan, 1998). One solution for working together would be to get the person or persons in the group with extreme personality traits to come to terms with their...

...The Big Five Dimensions of Personality Personality researchers have proposed that there are five basic dimensions of personality. Evidence of this theory has been growing over the past 50 years, beginning with the research of D. W. Fiske (1949) and later expanded upon by other researchers including Norman (1967), Smith (1967), Goldberg (1981), and McCrae & Costa (1987). The "big five" are broad categories of personality traits. While there is a significant body of literature supporting this five-factor model of personality, researchers don't always agree on the exact labels for each dimension. However, these five categories are usually described as follows: 1. Extraversion: This trait includes characteristics such as excitability, sociability, talkativeness, assertiveness, and high amounts of emotional expressiveness. 2. Agreeableness: This personality dimension includes attributes such as trust, altruism, kindness, affection, and other prosocial behaviors. 3. Conscientiousness: Common features of this dimension include high levels of thoughtfulness, with good impulse control and goal-directed behaviors. Those high in conscientiousness tend to be organized and mindful of details. 4. Neuroticism: Individuals high in this trait tend to experience emotional instability, anxiety, moodiness, irritability, and sadness. 5. Openness: This trait features characteristics such as imagination and insight, and those high in this trait also tend to have a broad range of interests...

...The Big Five Theory of Personality is five major dimensions of human personality. The OCEAN model is what these five dimensions are often referred to as. The term OCEAN is an acronym for Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. It narrows down your personality into five categories and lets you know what your tendencies may be. I received a score of 20 for Openness to Experience/Intellect. My score for this represents a conventional, narrow interests, down to earth, and uncreative person. My results said that I am somewhat conventional. I scored this way because I am really not open to change. I don’t enjoy change at all because it isn’t the normal for me. It’s like when you’re in school and your parents get a new job out of state and you are uprooted to another place, another school and have to state all over. I agree with this statement, I feel as though it fits me. I received a score of 69 for Conscientiousness. A high score for this trait shows a person is well-organized, self-disciplined, reliable and careful. My results said that I am well-organized and that I am reliable. I scored this way because I don’t like things out of place. I like my DVDs in alphabetical order and I don’t care for a junky room. I also like to be on time and I get upset when I even think I may be late. My friends come to me for advice because they can rely on me telling them the truth. The results for this trait fits me perfectly, I do agree with the...

...The Big Five Personality Dimensions The Big Five are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness to experience. I was curious to know where I test among the big five so I took the test online and the three I ranked highest in was agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience. Looking at myself I only had picked two of them. Conscientiousness was my first choice because my mother, siblings, and even my manager tells me that I’m dependable and responsible. My sister recently ask me if anything should happen to her will I be responsible for her kids. I was shocked because she knows I’m always joking saying the best thing about being an aunt is I can give them back but she says she know she can depend on me. If my manager is at work before I get there, she knows I’ll be walking in the door early. She always try to get me to clock in early as if she couldn’t wait ten minutes. You need to be at least ten to fifteen minutes early. I set goals for myself because I want a better life, not only that I want to find a career that makes me happy. Last semester, I completed patient care tech and I’m schedule to take my certification test next month but the funny thing about that is I not sure if that’s what I want to do with my life so now I’m and business management. All I know is God has a plan for me. Openness to experience was my next choice, my mom often tease me about always wanting to try things and my friends tells me I’m learn my...

...I took the “Big Five Personality Test” on the internet. Overall, I think the results were not too bad. However, some of the categories I scored a lot different than I thought I would. Otherwise, I think this a really interesting personality test to take. In the category of openness to experience, I scored low and it said that I was close-minded and not open to new experiences. I think that I'm pretty open to try anything new and thus this isn’t right. However, it also says that low scorers are down to earth, which I am. The next category was conscientiousness, I scored in the lower numbers again and thus it said that I was disorganized. I am somewhat disorganized but I don’t tend to do things haphazardly like it says. I am usually very reliable and careful like the high scorers in this category. In the category extroversion, I scored in the higher numbers and therefore it said that I am outgoing and social. That statement is very true, I am always going out with friends and talking to people. My score in this category was right on. In the category agreeableness, I scored exactly in the middle and therefore I don’t know exactly what that means. It says that I’m not forgivable or irritable. I don’t really know what that means either so I guess it could be right. The final category is neurotic-ism I scored really low. The study says a low score means that I should be relaxed and calm, which is exactly how I...

...The Big Five Trait was illustrated in the novel When Nietzsche Wept, through both characters: Breuer and Nietzsche. First and foremost, the Big Five Trait could be described as a model consisting of five dimensions, which construct an individual’s overall personality. The dimensions have a spectrum depending on how high or low the person would fall under each category. According to McCrae and Costa, openness to experience mostly describes people who seek new experiences and interesting concepts. They constantly need to feel the thrill and love to spice up their routine, depending on their score. Breuer has been portrayed to open to new experiences, to the point where he started seeking a new obsession, a woman named Bertha. Although he had strong beliefs about how having a successful career and a loving family are the components that...

...The Big Five Personality Theory and Gender Identity According to American Psychological Association (2000), personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole. A number of different theories have emerged to explain different aspects of personality. Some theories focus on explaining how personality develops while others are concerned with individual differences in personality. The following are just a few of the major theories of personality proposed by different psychologists: Behavioral Theories, Psychoanalytic Theories. This paper focus on the Big Five personality dimensions to explain childhood personality development. Big Five Personality theory described the personality in childhood and later in life as a set of variations across five primary dimensions identified by researchers: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness/intellect. Each bipolar factor (e.g., Extraversion vs. Introversion) summarizes several more specific facets (e.g., Sociability), which, in turn, subsume a large number of even more specific traits (e.g., talkative, outgoing) (Gosling, Rentfrow and Swann Jr, 2003). These basic factors can explain and predict...
