...develop into danger and being able to avoid them. One kind of self-defense is Arnis. According to our professor Mr. Laxa, Arnis is an art primarily used for self-defense; this emphasizes the use of weapons, especially the rattan stick. Mr. Laxa introduced to us many techniques used in Arnis, including single sinawali, double sinawali, and peripherals, and now the solo baston. Solo Baston involves the use of a long stick weapon. It does not necessarily mean that you can only use a stick to perform this defense. You can also use bladed weapons and other daily objects we see everyday such as umbrellas, and walking sticks. Solo baston consists of striking and blocking techniques, also disarming techniques. First, striking and blocking, striking is forcibly and deliberately hitting with one’s hand or a weapon, while blocking is hindering or stopping the movement or action of the opponent. These techniques have three kinds, specifically, 6, 8, and 12. I think the main advantage of these techniques is that you will be able to attack your opponent and at the same time block his or her hit. To be specific, I will name the advantages and disadvantages of each kind. In the 6 strikes and blocks, the advantage of these techniques is that you can block your opponent’s attack aimed at your temple, crown, stomach, and knee. These techniques are specifically aimed for the temple, crown, stomach, and knee, and the possible...

...Swansong was choreographed by Christopher Bruce in 1987 for the London Festival Ballet (now called English National Ballet). It lasts 32 minutes and is a work for three dancers, consisting of two interrogators or guard and a victim or prisoner. The original cast was all-male, but was later performed by all-female cast and a mixed gender cast. However, the two guards cannot be of the same gender while the victim is of the opposite gender, as it would suggest a gender issue rather than a political oppression. Moving on, ‘Amnesty International’ was a main stimulus. The piece intends to describe the situation of a person coming from one country, being imprisoned in another due to policy/law differences on treatment and conditions. The Amnesty organisation aims to keep the living conditions of those prisoners at a particular standard. Furthermore, the novel “A man” by Oriana Fallaci and saying ‘goodbye’ to a career as a dancer were also significant stimuli. The recorded music was composed by Phillip Chambon, commissioned by London Festival Ballet. The designer again, was Christopher Bruce and the lighting was designed by David Mohr. Christopher Bruce designed Swansong’s setting on a bare proscenium stage, which leads the audience’s focus on the movement without any visual distractions. Dull colours are used to create the mood and atmosphere of being in a cell. The backdrop is black, showing that the cell-like stage is small, leaving the prisoner feeling trapped and claustrophobic...

...fooling around with social media where you think they are getting the job done but in reality they are not they are using social media for there on use or personal use rather then to help the company out. 3. I think restricting various websites is good because your paying your employees to do the job you want it to be effective, and not be doing their own thing while working that’s not what your paying them for. I believe that only certain websites should be blocked, for special reasons, because on social media you can mind a lot about your competitors but sometimes the employees over use it and don’t actually do the job. So I think that some websites should be restricted while others should not. 4. I somewhat agree with Cintas Corp with blocking Netflix, but social media is a big marketing opportunity for companies. Also with Pandora some people work better when listening to music, but maybe instead of Pandora they can have an iPod with headphones or a radio on low in the office. Social media is sometimes okay to block, but for advertising the company or product that is important to use because a ton of people use...

...In the end, close with this scene incorporating (Stage left. Lights open. A man is standing hunched over as if looking at himself in a puddle. Stage right lights open as a woman is standing in the same position. Suddenly full lights and the whole stage is covered with bodies each hunched over looking at the floor. From stage right, a little boy of about ten walks to centre stage) Boy: Why are these people doing this. Frozen in time not knowing what is in front of them. Confused as if lost in a world of puddles. What are they looking for? Should I be looking too? I don’t think I want to be here but I’m unable to leave. These people, their eyes, their dark and distraught eyes. Can I help them find colour or will they be pitch black forever? (lights fade) (Lights open stage right, a family is setting a diner table, the boy is among them) Mother: Are you guys all washed up and is the table set? Sister: Yes mom (A few seconds’ pass and the boy is staring blankly. His sister nudges him) Boy: Huh? Oh, yes mom I’m ready. Mother: (calls to the other room) Honey! Dad! Time to eat. Grandpa: Smells great, nothing like my wife used to make. (he nudges father and laughs awkwardly but soon quiets himself as he sits with the others.) (They hold hands and together pray their normal prayer of thanks to God) Mother: So how was each of your days (The boy sits there silently as this question is passed around the table along with the food of which he takes a lot less than the others.) ...“The Never Ending Nightmare, a Nightmare within Itself” I will never forget the day when one of my worst nightmares became a comical reality. It started out as any normal Friday the Thirteenth, or so I had thought. For my sense of time had completely been forgotten. Beep! Beep! Beep! This was the annoying sound of my alarm clock that I would wake up too every morning. I used to dread this sound but lately, it was like a gift from God. I had been restless the past couple of nights—tossing and turning about my bed. I would have dreams, no, horrible nightmares of performing in front of a large crowd and just freeze. I was not able to move nor was I able to speak. I would just stand there in front of what seemed like the whole world and sob. This sounds like an exaggerated case of stage fright only, it was not. I had never experienced anything of the sort. I would enter stage left, cross downstage, and then begin to recite my self-published, might I add, monologue to my peers and professors. About a good four minutes in, the lights would start to flicker. It did not bother me at first, but it continued. Eventually, the lights shut off completely. The only light remaining was the ghost light placed at center stage behind me. Suddenly, an eerie fog made its way through the cracks under the doors and in the walls. Everyone in the audience seemed to twist into a sick-like, monstrous mutation. Their faces went from laughter and serenity to anger and despair. Even their bodily appearances...

...When setting “Lady Windermere’s fan” I would use an extravagant set, including large pieces of furniture and multiple portraits, on a proscenium arch stage to resemble the wealth of the key characters. This layout will also reflect the earlier performances of this production and suit the Victorian period. When playing Lord Darlington, I would be a good looking man in his early forties, with dark hair and dark eyes; this is to highlight a contrast between Lady Windermere’s innocence and puritan views (as she would have fair hair and light eyes). The first scene I would perform in is the opening of Act 1 with Lady Windermere. As Lord Darlington, I would be wearing pale grey straight leg cotton trousers, accompanied with a white high collared shirt, maroon waistcoat and a dark coloured long coat. Upon entering stage left, I would remove my top hat after bowing and stating the line “How do you do, Lady Windermere?” When saying the line I shall lower my upper body but keep my eyes locked onto Windermere to demonstrate a clear connection between the characters. Lady Windermere should appear shocked my Darlington’s visit to demonstrate the Victorian society as the hours 4-6 were specified for close, intimate friends. I will use a slow gait when approaching Lady Windermere and offer my hand, also inappropriate of the time, which shows his rogue-like nature. My main aim for this scene is to present the contrast of morals between Windermere and Darlington, showing Darlington as a more...

...Running head: PASSAGE Passage of Time Alyssa Smith Grand Canyon University Passage of Time Life is never guaranteed. A person does not know when their end will come. People go through day to day life and rarely stop to look around them. It seems that the older a person gets the faster time appears to go by. This is not an uncommon theory. The play “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder (1938) is a representation of people versus time. The theme is to appreciate the moments in life because time passes quickly. In three short acts, this play covers twelve years in the lives of the townspeople. There are many references that indicate passage of time as a theme. As the stage manger is introducing the town, he states “Naturally, out in the country – all around – there’ve been lights on for some time, what with milkin’s and so on. But towns people sleep late” (Wilder, 1938, pg. 7). The reference to people in town sleeping late compared to in the country is a way of saying that townspeople waste valuable time. Time sleeping is time that could be spent with family or friends enjoying moments that do not come along often. When the town does awaken they are being rushed. The kids are in a hurry to get ready, they eat breakfast quickly, and then they run off to school so as not to be late. Everything is rushed. Life proceeds in a way that indicates it is something that needs to be done. When Emily is talking about doing her homework, she stated “Well, I always feel it’s...

...As we sit in the theatre’s lobby at the University of Illinois in Springfield, the nerves and tension begin to settle in all of us. Most were either playing cards or gossiping about the other shows. The rest of us were quietly thinking about the fate of our show. As our coach came out of the office, we headed outside. He holds up a small piece of paper and flips it over. We all start screaming, hugging each other. My greatest success is being the stage manager for a state winning theater program. “Hey, Tom you ready for the play this year?” My coach Mr. Wargin says as I walk into the little theatre. “Of course! It’s my senior year, it is going to be the best year for us, I promise!” As the other stage managers and I stand on the stage taking attendance and pass out the calendar of practices and events, Mr. Wargin tells us a game plan. “We meet every Tuesday and Thursday; occasionally we’ll have a Saturday where we work all day. We’ll use those Saturdays for when we are falling behind and need to finish big projects that we can’t finish during the school week. We provide lunch if you come, and it is greatly appreciated if you do.” He continues to say, “We have two sets to build, one for each play, and we have about a month and a half to complete both”. He explains that our contest play is “The Picnic” and we are going to build two houses, with faux grass, something we have never done before. Our other show, the group interpretation, is “A League of Their Own”. This show...

Name the Project Call it something like "BallBounce". Remember, no spaces. But underscores are OK. Start a New Project If you have another project open, go to My Projects menu and choose New Project. Add a Canvas From the Drawing and Animation drawer, drag out a Canvas component and drop it onto the viewer. BallBounce: A simple game app - 1 BallBounce: A simple game app - 2 Set the Screen so that it does not scroll The default setting for App Inventor is that the screen of your app will be "scrollable", which means that the user interface can go beyond the limit of the screen and the user can scroll down by swiping their finger (like scrolling on a web page). When you are using a Canvas, you have to turn off the "Scrollable" setting (UNCHECK THE BOX) so that the screen does not scroll. This will allow you to make the Canvas to fill up the whole screen. Change the Height and Width of the Canvas to Fill Parent Make sure the Canvas component is selected (#1) so that its properties show up in the Properties Pane (#2). Down at the bottom, set the Height property to "Fill Parent". Do the same with the Width property. ...A mental block is an instance in which someone cannot keep their train of thought or remember something that they should. There are many types of mental blocks and we will list some of them, along with examples, in this assignment. Perceptual Blocks A perceptual block causes a disturbance in the way a problem is perceived. Below are types of perceptual blocks and examples of each. • Stereotyping is when something is perceived in a certain way for so long that it is difficult to view it in another way. For example; if you were stranded in the wilderness and only had your clothes, but had an opportunity to catch fish in a stream, you might be able to pull threads from your clothing to make a fishing line. But you may be so used to only wearing clothes that you may not think of this as a possibility. • Limiting the problem unnecessarily is when you set unrequired limitations on yourself. Examples of this can be found in many riddles, which trick you into tightening the scope of your thinking so that you miss the obvious. For example, what gets wet when it’s drying? • Saturation or Information Overload is when you have to have too much information at your disposal tom utilize it efficiently. You might end up spending more time organizing your information than using it to solve your problem. An example of this could be found in computer programming, when an input is bad and you have to look through the entire code to find it. The amount of symbols perceived could be an overload...

...material too available on the internet which your child can benefit immensely from. Should your child be deprived of the good because of the bad? Well not anymore, the IPad software is now installed with parental control software which allows a parent to set limits and restrictions to what your child can be exposed to on the internet. Several parental control applications have been developed and installed which allow the filtering of both websites and content directly on the IPAD browser. To draw an analogy, it is very similar to parent’s supervision while your children play in the park. The parental control acts like the eyes of the parents even when the parent is not around. The choice of restrictions, limitations, filtering or even blocking websites and content are completely controlled by the parent. These controls are essential for any parents who are exposing their children on the internet so that the children may benefit from the resources without being prey to online manipulators. The IPAD parental control can be easily set up by any parent by accessing the “Settings” menu available on the home screen of the IPAD. There beneath the “general” menu is the set of restrictions which a parent can organize according to the age of his child. The...
