Everyone I knew; my family, relatives, friends have and manage their own shops. This was one of the many reasons why I chose to study business management in the first place. Moreover, because it’s like a family tradition. Furthermore, some of the associated occupations were human resources managers, social & community service managers, and business continuity planners. ...Career Exploration MGT/521 Career Exploration In experiencing the results of my Career Exploration, it was asked of me to chart the results and the way in which it affected me for this process. This process asked me a series of questions and my answer to those questions created me a list of careers that seemed suitable for me. My results ended with the choice as a Chief Executive Officer. Although I currently serve as a Finance Controller at this time, I was excited that this were among the choices selected for me, based upon my responses. While finance is near and dear to my heart, I have a greater love for ownership. I currently work two side businesses, whereas I serve as the Chief Executive Officer. While both of these businesses are rewarding, they are also as challenging attempting to bring growth and development of both companies. Understanding the goals and vision for the companies are paramount, but actually being able to convey to execution has been most challenging. A portion of the challenge is because all current employees, including myself, have other full-time employment. Being able to keep our full-time employment enables us to fund the vision. Going through this experience turned on some pivotal lights for me in several areas. To now understand the importance of networking and how all moments can be a networking opportunity proved as valuable information. Also, in reviewing the different stages of mentorship ...

It is recommended that you sell things, speak in public, write for a newspaper, work on a market research project, or play sports leading up to the job. ...Want a job? Need a job? That’s easy, anyone can get just a job. However, if you are looking for a career (and yes, they are two distinctly different things) then before actually seeking out new employment there are three things you need. The first is, knowing the industry in which you want to work and an understanding of what the requirements are to be a candidate for that field. Next, you need a resume. Microsoft Word provides resume templates, for free, to assist you in creating a personalized resume. Last, but certainly not least, you will need a cover letter to accompany your resume when applying for positions. Keep in mind the cover letter will be the first document a hiring manager will read. Research general cover letters and industry specific ones. Use your research to assist you in writing your own. Don’t go the generic route or plagiarize anyone else’s. Make sure to highlight your strengths and allow your personality to come through and jump off the page, setting your cover letter apart from the dozens of others that the hiring manager will read that week. Entering, or reentering as the case may be, the workforce is always a daunting task. Compound this with an economy which has been notoriously struggling, increasing student loan debt, upside down mortgages and many employers unwilling to pay fair market wages based on expertise and/or education, and choosing a career can seem more difficult than sitting for the Series 7 exam. If you are newly entering the workforce...
