INTRODUCTION
Castle’s Family Restaurant is a successful mid-sized company with 300-340 employees, with about 40% of staff being full-time. Due to such success, HR functions are becoming increasingly more time consuming and costly to accommodate the company’s growth. Currently the operations manager, Jay Morgan, is acting as the human resources manager is responsible for Castle’s eight locations in Northern California. Morgan is currently using Excel to manage payroll and manually prints employee’s checks. In addition to payroll, Morgan is responsible for scheduling, recruiting, and hiring of all eight locations. Morgan believes the addition of a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) would aid in reducing the time and costs of travel.

For a company of this size, have HR functions performed by one individual has become overwhelming. Based on this assessment, Castle’s Family Restaurant will benefit from have the following HR functions automated; payroll, recruitment, scheduling, hiring, training, and benefits and compensation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, operations managers are responsible for a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to, management of daily operations, HR functions, purchasing, and more. (General and Operations Managers, 2015) Castle’s Family Restaurant only has one operations manager for all locations, which is having a negative effect on company costs and efficiency.
IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS
Upon reviewing Castle’s Family Restaurant’s situation, the following problems have been identified:
• Morgan currently is acting as both operations manager and HR for a median sized company with over 300 employees
• A large percentage of the staff are part-time (60%)
• Morgan currently handles payroll functions using basic fundamentals; Excel and manually printing
