...demonstrations of leadership, character, service and citizenship both inside and outside of school. The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that acknowledges students who manifest excellence in scholarship and character, and I am truly ecstatic to have the honor to be considered for admission into the organization. Throughout my life I have strived to be ambitious in my studies and fulfill my education to the utmost level. I am currently maintaining A’s in all subjects, as I have for every marking period of my Middle School education and every year from when I was in Elementary School. I have received the Distinguished Honor Role in 6th grade and am on track to do the same in 7th. I challenge myself by taking French 1, and pursue complex goals in Gifted Education. My committed and efficient work ethics have allowed me to take above-grade accelerated Literature, Writing, and Algebra 1 courses. I have participated in several academic and challenging activities including The Knowledge Bowl, Knowledge Master, VEX Robotics, and Reading Olympics. I also have strived to show examples to and lead others in my community. I tutor a side-class in French 1 which allows me to help students falling behind. I also often take charge in group projects in school by organizing the concepts of the project encouraging my group-mates. But to me, leadership is not only showing the way for others, it is also to be able to look away from them. Being a leader lets me make decisions on my own and...

...Education “Education is a key to success.” It gives us knowledge of the world around us, while opening doors to brilliant career opportunities. Education builds confidence to make decisions, to face life, and to accept successes and failures. The best way to reach career success is to map out a strategy and set goals. Education can be a source that could lead someone for a better future. Having seventeen or eighteen years of waking up early in the morning, doing home works and projects and staying late at night to study for exams is not an easy task to do. But, for you, what is success? For some, success is the accomplishment of the goal aimed by a person. But for me, success means that it is one way of proving to others that I have determination and patience with what I am doing. Also, it is telling to others that I am willing to do everything just to reach my goals. And how come education becomes the key to success? In today’s modern and competitive society, we cannot deny the fact that we must equip ourselves with plenty of knowledge, thoughts or ideas and skills in order for us to enhance God’s given talents for us. Also, through education, we can learn more and improve ourselves in whatever field we do have. Professionals like pharmacists, doctors, engineers and lawyers surely gave importance to their education. With proper training and knowledge, it is possible for them to perform their best in their careers and to be successful in their field of area. The characters and...

...great accomplishment in itself. It is proof of my determination and dedication to my future and further education. I believe that being an active participant would further my opportunities to contribute to my school, community, and education. As a sophomore, I may not have been presented as many opportunities as other candidates but I have taken full advantage of as many leadership positions and service projects as possible. As soon as I walked into the halls of Heritage High School I created several goals for myself to accomplish before I graduate. One of the goals with highest priority was being inducted into the National Honor Society, and now this goal is closer than ever. To be a member of the National Honor Society is to be recognized as a student with...

...arts enhances the intellectual capacities of the person, it enhances his/her reasons and judgement. This movie did and did not really show the real ideals of the importance of liberal arts. As stated in the definition, liberal arts enhances the person’s reasons and judgement, the film did a good job with the development of the characters but there is no enhancement of judgement (of the characters) present in the film. Dead Poets Society, for me, did not really show me the real meaning of liberal arts because of the way the characters decide for their own fate. For example is Neil Perry, because of his amusement to the new teacher (Mr. Keating), he joined the bandwagon and went to acting even though his parents doesn’t allow him to. I know people might contradict me with do-want-you-want statement but I will argue with them about know the consequences of your actions and decisions and how it will affect the people around you. (I know there is a theory about that but I already forgot what it is.) Todd did warn Neil about what will happen but Neil insisted. Another from Neil is him killing himself, Mr. Keating told them, “ ‘….what good amid these O me, O life?’, answer, that you are here – that life exists and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse, what will you verse be?” Neil killing himself is just wasting his life, just because his parents does not support him in acting does not mean he will just kill himself. Liberal arts – thinking critically...

...brotherly love. Hence, this particular part of the play is important for us as readers to understand to what extent who is loyal and who is not as we are provided with a clear insight on the Elizabethan society during Shakespear’s time. Therefore,it is also crucial to note that shakespeare uses dramatic techniques such as the themes of usurpation and jealousy, the main characters,Orlando and Oliver, pastoral setting of the play and the language in order to mark the significance of this opening scene. in the opening scene, orlando introduces one of the play’s important themes : primogeniture,a policy whereby the eldest son inherits everything. Orlando, being the youngest brother in his family, faces the problem that he has received a meager inheritance as a result of this rule. ‘’..it was upon this fashion bequeathed me by will but a poor….and there begins my sadness.’’ Hence we see that the system of hierarchy was not a fair system as where the elder brother usurps everything for himself. Yet,a stronger aspect that takes over is jealousy. ‘’..for my part he keeps me rustically at home..’’ shows that oliver deprives him of education and other facilities, indicating that he is jealous of him.Considering the condition of senior duke, then it is jealousy that has made the younger brother, duke Frederick take senior duke’s place by deception. The reason behind jealousy here is because the evil ones,Oliver and duke Frederick cannot accept the fact that Orlando and Senior...

...Stonyfield Farm CEO Gary Hirshberg put it, "The most undervalued asset in entrepreneurship is determination," and I had finally made the determination to pursue the education necessary to under gird my future business plans. David is not the only successful businessperson I know, but he is the most ethical. Many of the others I grew up with achieved their success by capitalizing on their charisma, their image, or their style. Like my mentor David, however, I knew that I wanted to succeed and be judged based on my character, integrity, and substance. I recognized through my friendship with David that true leadership requires character, and that developing and maintaining character takes grit and persistence. David taught me that gaining success in a capitalistic society is not a right but a responsibility and that it is possible to possess a tough-minded business sense and great humanity simultaneously. During all the years that I witnessed David's ascent in the business world, he never stopped working to achieve success, and I have adopted the same drive. Everyone has dreams, but I have learned to do the groundwork that will make my dreams into realities. I am multilingual, speaking English and Farsi, and I am in the process of learning additional languages-Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, and German-that will allow me to communicate with an even wider audience. Like David, I do whatever I can to stay at the top and remain competitive, and although life is not perfect, I rarely take...

...“Character education is the way the teacher talks, the behaviours that are modeled, the conduct that is tolerated, the deeds that are encouraged, and the expectations that are transmitted” (Creasy, 2008,p. 3). Even though character education has not been explicitly taught within the school, students are still receiving character education on different platforms throughout the school day such as, learning to play together and that hurting a friend isn’t kind. Schools have always taught students to play nicely together, by slapping new terminology on an already familiar idea just satisfying the publics’ interests? Educators uphold high ethical standards, however recently the public sees students’ behaviour as less then upstanding. Jane’s...

...the Exemplary Character Award (ECHA) by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2012, there has been much controversy and discussion surrounding this issue by both students and parents alike. While some Singaporeans have lauded this movement, many critics have slammed this award as being too ostentatious, and plain hypocritical. This harsh criticism is not without valid reason as giving monetary awards for good behaviour can indeed result in a wrong perception on the importance of good character, encourage pretentious behaviour from students as well as place a financial burden on the Singapore government. Advocates of this award argue that the award helps to educate school students on the importance of good values and character. This is in light of the recent complaints from parents who say that too much emphasis is placed on academic achievements in our education system and too little attention is placed on the character development of their children. Thus the advocates of this award feel that the Ministry of Education is justified in their plans to award certificates and money to well behaved children. However, is this really the right way to raise the importance of good character and values? I do not think so. In fact, there is a major flaw in the logic behind this ECHA award. By handing out certificates and monetary cheques to these well behaved children, the school is placing a value on good character, and not actually encouraging students to display good character out of goodwill...

...and a daughter both attending college. Observations of the family lead me to the conclusion that their worldview is between a naturalism and secular worldview. While watching the show The Parkers I have observe that The Parkers live they life base off naturalism and secular because they are fulfilling their dreams in life regardless of what people might say or believe. On the following episode e the the mother Nikki Parkers truly believes her and the professor is a couple and he is cheating on her with some skinny women. The Nikki character is following the professor around and trying to find out what he is up too even though it is clear they are not a couple and will never be. The other character is Kimberly Parker she is clearly not the smartest character on the show but her personality makes up for it. She has this bubbly personality that is easy to get along with and she always has some silly or funny to say that make people take a double take. They both do things that make them feel good about themselves like going to college to farther themselves in life, they both like fashion and attention from men. The Parkers are there for each other regardless of what might happen and they do not let others pursue them to change their minds when they have their heart set on something. One thing I notice they value is education, family time together, and going to church. Another of the thing that show me that they are a family is because they identify themselves as a family...

...C1: Source and Aim of True Education In summary and response: Mentally, I have assented to this view of education. In practice, however, I showed a narrow view. True education is to be found through a sincere purpose to arrive at Truth, and thus we are "brought into communion with the mind of God, the finite with the Infinite. The effect of such communion on body and mind and soul is beyond estimate" (Ed 14). As we get to know God, we will develop as He has planned all along. Of course, in the earthly classroom, education looks a little different than it did at the beginning of time, when Adam stood with God in the Garden of Eden. At that time, Adam bore his Creator's image. God's plan was for Adam to show this image more and more clearly throughout eternal ages. But when Adam disobeyed, the image of God was almost wiped out--now, humanity is weak physically, mentally, and spiritually, and subject to death. This is me. This is the students I teach, the families with whom I interact. Amazing love! God set into motion the plan of redemption--the restoring of what had been lost. This redemption is the object of education, the object of life. My purpose in the classroom is to let God use me to be a catalyst for this redemption. What drives the catalyst and the reaction? Love. When we connect with God and obey His commands to love Him and others, we will be transformed into His image. "Unselfishness underlies all true development" (Ed 16). So, how do we connect...

...experiences. These principles form our basis of morality. Our ethical system comprises the underlying ethical principles, which we use to make decisions. It also directs our conduct and behavior. Character is the total of an individual’s moral qualities: is she a good person or bad person, is he worthy of trust and admiration or not (Josephson, 2011). Common traits used to describe a person’s character are courage, compassion, honesty, integrity, and respectful. Personal behavior and conduct are a reflection of a person’s character. Key events in my life contributed to the formation of my ethics and value systems. These core values serve as a framework and provide tools that I use for identifying, pursuing, and achieving goals. These ethical principles are advantageous when faced with ethical dilemmas allowing me to engage the principles of creative thinking, conflict resolution, problem solving, and the decision-making process in my personal and professional lives. I began my secondary education uncertain of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My decision to enter this occupation was my admiration, love, and respect for my father. He was a career soldier in the U.S. Army, and growing up I aspired to be like him. The characteristics, traits, and values he exhibited gave me the tools for life. These core...
