Things to be done, things that get done, and everything else in between. During that time, a person’s mood can either be swayed or swing from one direction to the next. There are a lot of factors that can influence those changes. Among the company the person keeps, health, time of day, and even appetite can greatly set the tone for ones perceivable communications: verbal or otherwise. While examining the past weekend, I found myself to fall victim to those aforementioned clauses. Here, we will take a moment to dissect the changes and how they affected communication. Friday: I start my day at 6am. I had not been feeling well, but I continue on with the help of my painkillers. At work, I communicate with a variety of different people. Whether in my office, or on the telephone, there is a vast assortment of personalities to contend with. As the day winds on, I feel myself bogging down. As I walk back and forth between the printer and my desk, the non verbal cues begin to speak louder than my words. People begin to ask “are you ok?” and “you don’t look so good”. ...What I have learned from the Communicating Effectively Module The main focus of the studies in this module was the Myers Briggs Type Indicators. These indicators describe the way in which different people think and approach the world. It tells us that each one of us has preferences from the four descriptors giving a possible 16 personality types, Extraverted/Introverted, Sensing/INtuitive, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving. After reading through descriptions of each type, I assessed myself as having an ISFJ type. However, when my results arrived from the MBTI Test completed online, my results were an ESTJ type. Upon reading into the characteristics I questioned whether I was really an extrovert as I have always thought of myself as shy and reserved. The traits of an extravert are those who are energised when they talk though tasks with others and prefer to act after doing so. They enjoy the company of others especially if discussions and projects are in an area of common interest. I originally chose the Feeling type as I consider myself a people person; however I also like to be objective and to look at things logically and debate the issues. After this further analysis, I decided the ESTJ type better described me.
