Several departments within the organization have to be given priority when it comes to rolling out the new human resource management system. Since this system is automated and rests on an Information Technology platform, the first two departments to consider would be the human resource management and Information Technology departments. All the teams of professionals within these departments would have to be part and parcel of the entire system design and development process. The other departments to consider would be those of finance and operations management as they too are a fundamental part of the organization’s decision making framework. ...‘eMediaries’ include global distribution systems (GDSs), such as WORLDSPAN and SABRE and teletext (Buhalis and Licata 2002). Teletext is a system for broadcasting text over an unused portion of a television signal and displaying it on a decoder-equipped television set (Merriam Webster 2013). Tourism intermediaries have been forced to readdress their revenue and cost bases as well as to re-evaluate all partnerships and value chains. ICT tools reinvent the packaging of tourism to a much more individual-focused activity, offering great opportunities for both suppliers and intermediaries, and enhancing the total quality of the final product. In the future, eTourism will be focused on consumer-centric technologies that will support organizations in interacting with their customers dynamically (Wand and Pizam 2011). Consumers now have access to a vast pool of high quality, topical, unbiased information, generated not by commercial interests but by other consumers, to help them in their decision making processes via the Web. This is done through social media as well as blogging websites. eTourism platforms are the basic technology of a computer system’s hardware for Web-based applications which are used to display the application of ICTs in the tourism sector (Almejalli n.d.). The main modern eTourism intermediaries or platforms include the Internet, mobile commerce and interactive digital television. ...technology for their operational and strategic management. Airlines were early adopters of ICTs and have a long history of technological innovation, in comparison to many other travel and tourism businesses. British Airways (BA) is one of the world’s leading global premium airlines. It operates a worldwide air cargo business, largely in conjunction with our scheduled passenger services. The use of Information Technology and the Internet are key factors in BA’s strategy, success and efficiency of the organization. BA recognized this opportunity and turned it into one of its strengths. Today, 76% of all its bookings are carried out via its e-ticket system giving customers the possibility of on-line/Kiosk check-in and seat bookings options. (Buhalis, D. 2004) BA is always implementing effective IT solutions and is considered today a market leader as is the case for the fare-explorer booking engine and the in-flight entertainment system which was awarded the ‘Best in Europe’. (2009/10 Annual Report and Accounts) BA is always keeping step forwards on the way of ICT enhancement and development: (2009/10 Annual Report and Accounts) * 2002 BA introduced first "calendar selling" of flights * 2004 Ability to change bookings added to web site * 2006 On-line check-in * 2009 More advanced functions added * 2010 Online disruption handling added 2.0 Intranet system: Employee Self Service program Figure 1- BA Intranet system (employee only) In 2003, British Airways...

...hotels, rental cars, and other travel services such as cruises etc. Most information has been provided earlier by phone and later by computer. The travel agency during this time played an important role. For customers it was impossible to book a flight or a hotel on their own. However, suppliers relied on travel agencies to get sales. The e-business changed the process entirely. Companies such as Travelocity.com or Expedia.com offer the services from their suppliers directly on-line to the customer. This way, the customer has direct access to the supplier's services, can choose and make its own decision. Travelocity or any such company earns a commission from the supplier if the customer purchased service through their web site. Travel service suppliers such as airlines, hotels, or rental cars offer their regular or scheduled service through the agents on-line system. As an example, Travelocity is using SABRE to link supply chain affiliates and partners to customers. Other travel service suppliers such as ATA vacations are channeling a limited variety of specials, one time deals, or overstock. The on-line process is basically the same as with other e-business travel service suppliers. The difference is that the travel arrangements are not based on a regular schedule. According to G. Schneider companies involved in supply chain management whether on web sites or in a brick and mortar environment should develop harmonious relationships with their travel suppliers resulting...
