The poaching of a multitude of various animals is rapidly getting out of control and needs to come to a halt. It is known that in the 1970’s through the 1980’s a ninety six percent decrease in the rhinoceros population occurred. Prior to 1970 roamed 70,000 individual rhinoceros’; then after the massive amount of illegal killings by 1995 only 2,410 rhinos remained. Currently there are estimated to be about 3,000 rhinoceros left in the wild (“Rhino Conservation”). In the 1970’s through the 1980’s elephants were also a highly targeted animal for poaching and this was leading them towards endangerment and or extinction. Poaching needs to be put to an end because it is putting many creatures at risk for endangerment and or even extinction, …show more content…
Many of these animals are killed for the use of a single body part. For an example a variety of bears are killed for their gallbladders and then the entire rest of their body is discarded because it is useless to the killer. Another animal that is thought to be a remedy for certain illnesses would be the purebred water buffalo. Another reason animals are poached would be for ornamental reasons. An example of this would be the purebred water buffalo which has become a substitute for the rhino these purebred water buffalo are nearly extinct leaving behind only the hybrid water buffalo. These water buffalo are poached for the horns on their heads. They are used to mount on the walls of those that illegally hunted them and to show off their size. One more example of an animal that is poached would be the chinese alligator. The chinese alligator has been killed off to the point that there are believed to be fewer than 200 in the wild. This species is being killed off for various reasons. The biggest reason the chinese alligator is being poached is for its meat. Supposedly the meat from the chinese alligator will cure the common cold, prevent cancer, and its organs are also believed to have medicinal properties (Stromberg and …show more content…
Tourism brings in thousands of dollars to Africa every year, but if poaching continues that number will decrease because there would not be any more animals in the wild to go spectate. Africa loses about twenty five million dollars every year due to poaching. It is because of this loss that researchers have been encouraging anti-poaching methods stating that “the cost of protecting the elephants would be far lower than the losses caused by poaching” (Ruiz). Unfortunately though illegal poaching has brought in as much as $597 million from selling ivory alone on the Chinese black market between 2010 and 2012 (Ruiz) this is an astronomical number making anti-poaching efforts

Animal Poaching Research Paper

...Intro: Imagine a world without a specific species, nobody can see them anywhere anymore, not even the zoo. Well it’s a tragedy that is very possible and is happening here in our realm. Poaching in Africa is very natural, although globally illegal, and any animal is susceptible to these executioners. Not only are animals being affected by poachers, but also tribes that occupy the lands rely on the animals for food. The result of so many animals being poached in areas that tribes employ, the tribes are being malevolently accused of the rapid decline of the animal population. Most of the animals being poached will, most likely, be extinct in years to come due to the rapid decline of animals such as elephants and rhinos. As viewers of these malicious transgressions, it is our duty to become protectors of these magnificent creatures before they become extinct. It’s our time to act. Please help these defenseless creatures. Explain the Issue: In...

...GRE Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Topic - 1 "Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time." GRE AWA Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Sample Solution – 1 “The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.” ― Niels Bohr[->0] This is a proven fact that truth is the initial stage of progress. However, it is also believed that truth always starts away from the traditions and conventions. Therefore, people consider truths as attacks upon their beliefs, which people are following from ages. Truth also means some new facts that are unknown to us. People do not want to deviate from the facts, which they have learnt from their ancestors, and it is true to say that shedding ones dogmas is often difficult. They feel that it is an attack on their wisdom. If we look at the history of the world, we will find many examples where truth has generated commotions in the society. Different people have different views about the existence of God, life after death and origin of earth etc. For example, people took a long time to accept that the earth is round. Religious leaders and clergymen opposed this idea as it was against what they were teaching. Similarly, when Polish astronomer, Copernicus discovered that the earth goes round the sun and not vice versa, he was opposed by churches for many years. In fact he and his supporters were...
