...video content. Google wanted to make an easy search function so that its users could easily search television shows and also find when and where to watch them. The search function was in no way comparable to You Tube. You Tube’s design was more simplistic and searching was much easier. Google’s video service overall missed the mark in the small details as well. The Google video service did not incorporate the small details that users liked such as the number of views. This information was only available to the uploader and not the viewer. Google’s service allowed the user to search captions from a video, but the search would produce only related information such as broadcasting dates and not the actual video. Once Google began allowing user contributed content, it required special version of Video LAN to view the videos, making it inaccessbile to the average viewer. Google also offered a new flash technology which made it a lot quicker to upload a video, but viewing the video took considerably longer. Youtube was a smaller company and there was no real threat or fear of lawsuits for copyright infringement. With Google, their pockets seemed endless and were a prime target for such lawsuits. This made Google more inclined to remove any copyrighted content and to sell premium videos, when the average user would not even consider paying for online video content (Cool, p4.) You Tube’s appeal was more of a user controlled site where anything was allowed and the content waas not...

...WHAT IS YOUTUBE YouTube is a website designed for sharing video. Millions of users around the world have created accounts on the site that allow them to upload videos that anyone can watch. Every minute of every day, more than 35 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube. Video files can be very large and are often too big to send to someone else by email. By posting a video on YouTube, you can share a video simply by sending the other person a url ‘link’ – that is, the 'address' of the relevant internet page. When YouTube was created in 2005, it was intended for people to post and share original video content. But since then it's also become both an archive for storing favourite clips, songs and jokes, as well as a marketing site for companies to promote their products. Nowadays the term ‘viral video’ is common. This refers to a video clip that people have liked so much that they've shared its link by email with millions of others around the globe – in effect, it's spread like a virus. Companies have realised that they can harness this ability to reach potential customers and have created their own YouTube accounts for posting advertisements and other marketing videos. Film and television companies maintain a tight control over their own content and block illegal sharing of their programmes. However, several now use YouTube to allow fans to see high-quality trailers or repeats of recently aired shows. ADVANTAGES OF USING YOUTUBE i) Huge video database ...

...roomful of other hopeful YouTubers, many of whom called themselves “beauty gurus.” A “beauty guru” is a person, male or female, that has a passion for an aspect of beauty, whether it is makeup, hair, nails, fashion, or skincare. They create informational blog posts or YouTube videos, sharing their personal experiences and knowledge with a largely female audience. Ever since my exposure to so many passionate creators, I have been fascinated with their content and its affect on their target viewers. In my study, I aim to examine how watching YouTube beauty gurus affect adolescent females’ self-image and self-esteem. To narrow the study to a specific age range, female viewers from the ages of thirteen to twenty-one will be studied. I plan to collect survey answers, personal interviews, and observations from YouTube comments. In addition to YouTube viewers, I also want to interview beauty gurus to better understand their motives and content. YouTube turns ten years old in February, 2015, but the amount of research done on the impact of social media networks, like YouTube, on teenagers and adolescents is still an ongoing project. The results from research conducted on beauty gurus could affect not only the content they produce, but also the sponsorships they accept from partnering companies. Their adolescent viewers are developing a sense of identity as they grow up, which makes their self-esteem particularly at risk. I think it is vitally important to understand...

...How Has YouTube Changed The Music Industry? The people in control of the music business have always been threatened by new media. When the phonograph record originally emerged it was feared that it would kill off live music. In the early ‘80s the music industry campaigned against the cassette tapes, claiming that, “home taping is killing music.” Retrospectively, in both cases, quite the opposite proved true. The most recent example of this would take shape in the form of the internet, and more specifically one of it’s most visited mediums, YouTube. YouTube has become the third most visited website in the world behind Google and Facebook. Since its creation in February, 2005, YouTube saw rapid growth; sixteen months after its creation, 100 million clips were being viewed per day. YouTube users have developed a community in which technology has enabled new kinds of musical creativity. The internet and YouTube have now become technology that challenge the way we perceive music, musician and audience. Teens evidently don’t see computers as technology. It’s as if they have developed an innate ability for text-messaging, iPodding, gaming, and multitasking on multiple platforms. They can share their life story on Facebook, entertain each other on YouTube, muse philosophically in the blogosphere, contribute to knowledge on Wikipedia, and create cutting-edge art on Flickr. (Hartley, 2009) Lange (2008), an ethnographic researcher, discussed a number of misconceptions people have...

...The YouTube Effect How a technology for teenagers became a force for political and economic change. BY MOISÉS NAÍM | DECEMBER 27, 2006 A video shows a single line of people slowly trudging up a snow-covered footpath. A shot is heard; the first person in line falls. A voice-over says, "They are shooting them like dogs." Another shot, and another body drops to the ground. A uniformed Chinese soldier fires his rifle again. Then, a group of soldiers examines the fallen bodies. These images were captured high in the Himalayas by a member of a mountaineering expedition who claims to have stumbled upon the killing. The video first aired on Romanian television, but it only gained worldwide attention when it was posted on YouTube, the popular video-sharing Web site. Human rights groups explained that the slain were a group of Tibetan refugees that included monks, women, and children. According to the Chinese government, the soldiers had fired in self-defense after they were attacked by 70 refugees. The posted video seems to render that explanation absurd. The U.S. ambassador to China quickly lodged a complaint protesting China’s treatment of the refugees. Welcome to the YouTube effect. It is the phenomenon whereby video clips, often produced by individuals acting on their own, are rapidly disseminated throughout the world thanks to video-sharing Web sites such as YouTube, Google Video, and others. Every month, YouTube receives 20 million visitors, who watch 100 million video clips...

...Beside using traditional promotion methods ad like print ads or broadcast ads (which will still be used after this specific campaign is over), the main content of this campaign is heavily emphasized on social media platforms, specifically YouTube and Facebook, which is also what I will focus on. This content is designed, proposed and operated by a local marketing agency instead of in-house department, which is a common practice for big organization. Since the method being used in the campaign is rather new, uncommon and is intended to work specifically for Vietnam market, I will describe the campaign (along with background information) so that it is easier to understand what the campaign is and why the company choose to do this, as well as to answer the discussion question (also because it’s impossible to find and understand what the campaign is about if you don’t speak the language) Background information: Facebook is currently the most popular social network platform in Vietnam, with over 20 million users over the population of 90 million. YouTube, while not having any details data, also seen improving in term of users and user engagement. This is contributed by 2 factors: 1- Internet connection quality in the country (especially in large cities) as a whole is rapidly improving and 2- the amount of Vietnamese user generated content has also increased, under forms of music videos, short films, comedy sketches and vlogs. The most popular one is vlog, which started during late 2011...

...Ever wonder how YouTube came about? This paper will explain how and why multimedia is what it is today. How it started and how sites like Netflix and Hulu and other sites like these are thriving because of someone that wanted to use multimedia online. I can honestly say I do not remember the first time I used or watched multimedia on the internet. When I was in high school the internet was still relatively new and we were still learning on DOS and on Windows. That was my eighth and ninth grade years back in 1997 and 1998 respectively. Those days are long gone and it’s much easier to get videos or other forms of multimedia onto your computer and onto the internet. The term "multimedia" was first used in 1965 to describe a performance that combined music, lights, cinema, and performance art. In the history of multimedia development, technological advances have expanded the definition, and people have argued about how exactly the term should be used. Most people agree that the term multimedia should be used to describe a product that contains several types of media. For example, a multimedia website might feature text, graphics, and clickable sound files. (educationcenteronline.org) I can see how people could argue about something like this but at the same time, I think the arguments are invalid. In my opinion, multimedia is just about any video. It has picture, sound, and most can be clickable for sound. With the advent of the Internet and its growing prominence as news, entertainment...
