Good Morning. It is a great opportunity standing here in front of you all. First of all, “How many of you watching at your television or reading such as newspaper, magazines, or billboards outside your school hours?” If so, I believe you know already what advertisement is. According to the dictionary, advertisement is a notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product or service. There are many functions of advertisements, which are to inform, identify and persuade to try a product. Despite from those functions, advertisements can harm the consumers, which means that it could be you.

There is a study of television ads that said, “Students will watch approximately about 2,000 alcohol commercials on television each year”. Also, according to the research on Georgetown University, between 2001 and 2007 there are more than 2 millions television ads and 20,000 magazines ads for alcoholic products. These facts have to be concerned, as the students definitely can be brainwashed to consume alcohol. It has been known that over 74% of highschool students had have at least one alcoholic drink as well. Furthermore, according to PhD. Bridget. F, Grant, Chief of the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Biometry at the U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, people who start drinking at the age of 15 are 4 times greater likely to be an alcoholic than people at the age of 21.
The other advertisements like cigarettes can also give negative impacts on the consumers. I remember when I enjoyed my spare time watching at a television before I made this speech. I saw a cigarettes ad of ‘Gudang Garam’, which is one of the famous Indonesian Kretek Cigarettes. It has a motto of “Taste that Man Have”. This can attract consumers to buy the product because it is inferred that if you are real man you will smoke it as you will feel that you have “the man” taste;
