...There are several factors to consider when operating a successful dental office. While certain details may differ from office to office, generally most if not all dental offices are relatively parallel. To understand the similarities and difference, an observation was conducted at two different dental offices; for the sake of confidentiality they will be known as ‘Office A’ and ‘Office B’. During the observation, four different priorities were noted for observation; office management, chairside assistant role, communication and teamwork, and lastly client rapport. Office Management is crucial to the operations of a dental office as it is the first point of contact with the patient. Office A handled their office activities well, when patients...

...Quantitative data collection uses random sampling and structure data collection instruments that fit many experiences into a predetermined response categories and the outcome product are easy to summarize, compare, and generalize. By using quantitative data collection this research was more concern with testing hypotheses derived from theory and being able to estimate the size of a phenomenon of interest. A paper-pencil questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument in this research. Here the researcher utilized the paper-pencil questionnaire because it permits anonymity, and as stated by Chaleunvong (2013) this may result in more honest responses and does not require research assistant. The researcher used likert scale in the questionnaire whereby he got definite answers. This allowed the researcher to collect as much data he could in less time. The questionnaire consisted of three sets of questions, the first set had 11 questions which responded to the first research sub-question, the second set had 5 questions which responded to the second research sub-question and the third one had 5 questions which responded to the last research question and all together responded to the research question. The sample of the questionnaire with the respondent answers is at the back in the appendix...

...Periodontal disease is characterized by a loss of the connective tissue attachment induced by the presence of the dental plaque. The loss of periodontal tissue progresses in the apical direction, thus affecting all periodontal tissues. The primary etiology of periodontal diseases is the presence and maturation of a bacterial biofilm eliciting a host response (Socransky & Haffajee 2005). More specifically, in the posterior teeth, many factors play their role in affecting the onset and development of periodontal disease. Attachment loss in the furcation is one of the most serious anatomical sequels of periodontitis. What is worse, furcations are frequently not accessible for adequate professional debridement and home plaque control (Desanctis...

...Kiera Peavy Government 2305 5/29/14 Income Inequality Timothy Noah Richard A. Epstein * Inequality is good. (253) * Welch began by stating that “all economics results from inequality. Without inequality of priorities and capabilities, there would no trade, no specialization, and no surpluses produced by cooperation.” (253) * Waitresses, construction workers, dental assistants, call-center operators--- people in these jobs are essentially replaceable, and usually have bosses who don’t distinguish between individual initiative and insubordination. (254) * Welch said that he believed inequality was destructive only when “the low wage citizenry views society as unfair, when it views effort as not worthwhile, when upward mobility is impossible or so unlikely that its pursuit is not worthwhile.” (254) * Finally, Welch argued that the welfare state has made it too easy not to work at all. But the Great Divergence had a more significant impact on the working middle class than on the destitute. (254) * In most contexts, libertarians can fairly be said to place income in very high regard. (254) * The market is king, and what is the market if not a mighty river of money? (254) * Income isn’t what matters, Wilkinson argues; consumption is, and “the weight of the evidence shows that run- up in consumption inequality has been considerably less dramatic than the rise in income inequality.” (255) * The thought that the have-nots are compensating for their...

...Re-Centering Academic Centers Abstract This paper argues that we have lost the original intent and power of an institutional Center. Theoretically, Centers use centralized resources to support people and projects core to the mission of the institution. Many Centers now are located external to the campus, where isolated directors pursue specialized interests. Thus, Centers, which serve the entire community, become marginalized. This paper provides a model to re-center academic Centers toward their original intent, through collaboration between specialized and generalized centers. The authors also suggest concrete steps to help examine, evaluate and create clear structures and communication for effective use of Centers in Higher Education. Introduction There seems to be an increase in institutional Centers around the world, which can be favorable, although it also has the potential to dilute the power of a centralized location and operation. To address this issue, this paper describes the idea of partnering Centers around a collaborative hub to offer more powerful opportunities in the context of resource utilization. It would appear that many institutions had originally used the word “Center” in association with typical mainstream definitions of center, which include a person, or group, or thing in the middle; to focus or bring together; to have as a main point, or theme. Others may perceive Centers as the ring around a bull’s eye, i.e., a potential target. Regardless, of...
