Topic: Great places to visit when vacationing at the Outer Banks.
General purpose: to inform
Specific purpose: To inform my classmates about some site seeing places/ landmarks at the Outer Banks.
Central idea: The Outer Banks is more than some beaches, it is an experience that can change people through the adventures of site seeing land marks and visiting a mystery of a cold case that happened many many years ago.

Introduction
Attention-getter: Do you know where the largest natural sand dune is on the east coast? Where the nations tallest lighthouse is located? Where America’s first cold case happened? Where the Lost Colony is?
Relevance to audience: Because summer vacation season is right around the corner, I thought I would give you some information on three great places to visit at the Outer Banks.
Credibility material: My family vacations at the Outer Banks every summer. Typically we go for one week during the summer season but if we are lucky we try to visit again the third week of august.
Thesis statement: In my opinion the Outer Banks is a great, entertaining and educational vacation spot for everyone of any age.
Preview: I am going to inform you about three main site seeing land mark places to visit at the Outer
Banks. First is Jockeys Ridge State Park. Second is Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and third is The lost
Colony at Roanoke Island.
Body of speech:
Body of speech: A. Jockeys Ridge State Park is the tallest natural sand dune system in the eastern united states. 1. There is a self-guided hiking trail. 2. You are able to hang glide and fly kites. 3. You can kayak, windsurf, and swim on the soundside of the ridge.

The second great landmark I am going to introduce to you is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

B. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in North America. 1. It stands at 210 feet. 2. First built in 1803. 3. You are able to climb the 257 steps in the lighthouse.

Finally my favorite place to visit is Roanoke Island.

C. The Lost Colony of Roanoke Island. 1. July 1587 was the first permanent settlement. 2. John White the Governor of this settlement sailed back to England to bring back supplies. Upon his return three years later he found no trace of the colony or of its inhabitants, 3. The word “croatoan” carved on a piece of wood
Conclusion: Sadly, my speech has only given you a small amount of information about the Outer
Banks. The Outer Banks is more than a beach. It is a great place to play on the sand dunes, fly kites, climb lighthouses, and visit America’s greatest cold case- The Lost Colony. The Outer
Banks is a hot vacation spot that your family will enjoy summer after summer. Always something fun and exciting to do whether it is relaxing on the beach or site seeing. Your family will love the Outer Banks as much as mine.

Diet Soda Good or Bad?

...Dena Bennett WR 95 Miss Ormandy August 13, 2013 Trucks over cars, in more ways than one There are many different types of Vehicles. There are cars, trucks, even motorcycles. However in the last three years trucks have out sold cars four to one. In this essay I am going to give you a list of reasons why trucks are being chosen over cars. Trucks are large and have lots of room inside for passengers, and their cargo. Trucks always have plenty of leg room in their cabs. With a pickup truck you can always drive down the road and not have to worry about bottoming out over a simple rut in the road, or a speed bump. Trucks have that extra room under them to give that extra little lift between the ground and the bottom of the truck. In a truck you never have to worry about running into the curb when parking and bending down your license plate. A car will always allow you lower insurance rates. On every insurance sight on the internet, cars always had the lowest rates. Cars also get great gas millage. You can fill up your car and usually do it for around $40.00, and proceed to get all around town for a couple of days. When going on a road trip cheaper is always better, so a car is the way to go. Cars are also the original vehicle, there what many people think of as a vehicle. It was the first vehicle and some people will drive nothing else. Trucks are great for hauling things. When doing yard work, you can haul off any yard dabree by yourself. Then when picking up mulch or...

...Diet Soda, Good or Bad? Edward Muna COMM/215 August 22, 2011 Mary Ann Troy Diet Soda, Good or Bad? Would you like some water? No thanks, what do you have that is diet? One of the easiest ways to lose weight and control calories is by switching to something diet. On average, a normal soda pop runs roughly around 150 to 200 calories per can, and that depends on the size. Remember the movie, “Supersize Me”. So you decided a long time ago to go with artificial sweeteners and after a while you didn’t even notice the difference between the two. You get zero calories and sometimes zero carbs and both taste buds and body are happy. It is a win-win situation. Not so fast. Drinking excessive amounts of diet soda may increase the risk of disease; therefore we should drink healthy drinks instead of artificially sweetened beverages. Disease and Health Risks Diet soda is harmful and produces dangerous side effects. Heavy diet drinkers may increase their risk of serious diseases. A new study by US researchers links diet soda to increased risk of vascular events (including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, which is caused by rupture of a weakened blood vessel), though reasons are still unclear. The scientists said people who drank diet soda every day had a 61 per cent higher risk of vascular events than those who did not. Does this mean that there's something in diet sodas that hurts our blood vessels? Nobody knows the answer to that question yet. Investigators...

Diet Coke

...though it may taste good it is a harmful chemicals that brings destruction to your body. This is why I am here to help open your mind to see how harmful the soda can be to your body. One: Soda has high fructose corn syrup. Two: Diet coke is worse than regular coke. Three: Soda is very high in calories.         My first reason is because many sodas contain high fructose corn syrup which is harmful to your body. First of all soft drinks with high fructose corn syrup contributes to the development of diabetes, mostly in young children. It can also cause tissue damage which could cause you to get diseases; high fructose corn syrup can also cause obesity. Soda can also raise your blood sugar along with bad cholesterol and make it more likely to have a heart attack.          My second reason is about the type of sodas and why soft drinks (Coke, Pepsi, etc.) that claim they are diet is even more unhealthy for you. First of all diet coke is worse for you than regular soda. diet coke can make you become at risk of diabetes and cause obesity. If you drink one can of diet soda a day you have more of a chance to of developing metabolic syndrome than those who drink none at all. Diet coke also contains more calories than regular sodas all together.            My third reason is soda (regular or diet) is high in calories along with sugar/carbohydrates. All sodas have highs and lows in two things sugar and calories. Regular soda is higher in calories than in sugar and diet soda is high in sugar...

...have learned that too much of anything is bad for you so you always have to keep a moderation of anything and everything. We need saturated and unsaturated fats but we have to understand the common misconception between them. “While it is well known that there are saturated and unsaturated fats, fewer people are aware that unsaturated fats are further classified into two other groups:monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats.” (Saturated Fats vs Unsaturated Fats) There is a third type of fat known as a trans fat. Trans fats are actually a kind of unsaturated fat, but they stand out from other types of fat because they very rarely occur in foods naturally. There is a third type of fat known as a trans fat. Analysis Of Tom Vilsack's Article On Banning Candy And Soda From School

...Banning Candy and Soda from School In Tom Vilsack’s article,Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools?, Mr.Vilsack argues that banning soda and candy would help getting rid of the nation’s obesity epidemic in children. He states that it would be a major step in trying to reduce the high obesity rate in children. I say that banning soda and candy from school will greatly help by reducing the obesity rate. About one third of children in America are considered to be overweight or obese. In order for this to change, a shift in children’s diet has to occur. In this case, I agree with Tom Vilsack’s position with not just banning candy and soda from school, but unhealthy snacks with high calories as well. Most of what adolescents eat...

The article was available and accessible in the HCC databases and was recently written on the year 2011. I choose this article because it is very rich in information about the topic I’m researching which is soft drinks and their bad effects that it causes on humans. “Hard News About Soft Drinks”, talks about the risks of consuming soft drinks, especially those diet sodas that we think they are better for us but they end up having worse effects on our bodies and health. Conscious Eating Matters

...nutrients which many of us are not getting each day. “In a study completed at the University of Illinois it was discovered that many American adults are not getting enough vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, and iron [in their daily diet]. Americans have a tendency to eat far more saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium than is normal or recommended” (Bushak). Things like fast food, soda, and sugar-based foods are replacing highly nutritious foods like fruits and vegetables in people’s diets. This is why it is important to be conscious of what food you put into your body alongside the benefits of good nutrition. Making sure to eat fruits and vegetables every day is extremely important because they offer lots of beneficial nutrients for our bodies to run properly. According to Webber, “It is recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to average 2 cups of fruit and 2½ cups of vegetables of fruits daily, with slight variations due to age and sex. This is not that hard to achieve, “however, it is found that most people are consuming less than half of what the USDA recommends” (Hellmich). Avoiding fruits and vegetables altogether might lead to a vitamin or mineral deficiency so people should never leave these out of their daily diets. “Minerals in...

3 Day Diet Plan

...3 Day Diet Plan Kerry Case SCI/241 12/2/2012 William Connor For many years now it has been a struggle to eat healthy, and smoked on regular basis until this past June. When I quit smoking I replaced one bad habit with another and that bad habit was food. When it came to eating my current schedule does not allow me the time to eat like I should. My schedule at work requires me to be at work early so being able to fix something to eat just takes up too much time. I have also found that even if I do eat just a banana it makes me very tired, and with my job being a school bus driver, falling asleep at the wheel is not good. In the morning I usually buy a soda to drink. This usually lasts me from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Then from 9 a.m. to around 12:15 I purchase another soda. Usually around lunch I bring something to eat that I have previously cooked the following night from dinner. Sometimes I just don’t feel like eating so I throw that back into our work refrigerator and leave it for the next day. I clock back in around 1:30 p.m. and purchase another soda that lasts me until I get off work at 5 p.m. I rush home to fix something quick for dinner such as spaghetti with garlic bread, and a soda to drink. After dinner is done I help my children with their homework as I clean up from dinner. When the children have done their homework and gotten ready for bed is when I finally sit down and do my own homework. Finally around midnight I am ready for bed to just turn around and get up at...

I then placed each of the shells into each of the five colas. I put a lid on each of the jars to help keep out any extra germs in the air. I then daily opened the jars and carefully and observed each of the egg shells to look for changes in their colors and to see if any holes or cracks had formed from being in the soda. I observed the shells for one week and daily entered the results into a log book.  Control/Variables   Constant Variable * Adding the same amount of soda to each Mason jar. * One egg shell...

Your Favorite Drinks Can Wreck Your Body By Russ Lloyd

...Are sugary drinks really that dangerous? I believe sugary drinks are quite dangerous. In fact, sugary drinks are extremely dangerous, and should be banned. Today sugary drinks are one of the leading causes of obesity and other illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. This has been an increasingly important issue amongst kids 6-12 years of age. There have been various laws/bans put in place such as the New York City ban of soft drinks that are larger than 16 oz. In the article “Your Favorite Drinks Can Wreck Your Body” by Russ Lloyd, he talks about how more and more states are putting restrictions/bans on sugary drinks do to the dangerous effects they have on people. Although some say sugary drinks aren’t so bad, in “Let us enjoy our sweet drinks in piece” by Evan Cook, he describes just that, however, sugary drinks are extremely dangerous because they can lead to deadly illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, and are also extremely addictive, and are the leading cause of obesity and diabetes in America today....

Two Methods to Losing Wieght

...be difficult for most people to maintain. There will be differences in the way men lose weight, and the differences in the way women lose weight. In my experience, it is generally harder for women to take off the pounds than it is for men. Conceivably, a man can cut out something as simple as soda, and drop several pounds in a week. A woman, who cuts out the same amount of soda, will drop fewer pounds in that week. Is it fair? Maybe not, but that is how it seems to work between the sexes. We will be discussing two methods for weight loss. One will be a diet and exercise regimen; the other will be through the use of medications, supplements and medical procedures. Both have their potential advantages as well as their unfortunate drawbacks. Before any kind of weight loss regimen, it is a good idea to see your doctor first. Various weight loss regimens may have to be altered or customized for each individual. Selecting a diet and exercise program you can stick to can be important. Many people who begin a weight loss regimen, may get bored, lose interest and/or get discouraged and quite possibly, slip back into their old behaviors. Eating the right foods is important in any diet as well as drinking plenty of water. To start, you want to make sure that you are getting enough fresh vegetables and fruits. These are usually low in calories and high in fiber. You will also want to eat foods low in saturated fats, but high in protein. The best source for this is chicken and...

It will also include solutions of the problem including: educating the public, putting a tax on sugary food and drinks, and regulating the amount of sugar that can be used in a product. Problem Americans diets are too heavy in sugar, resulting in many health problems. Many Americans do not know the harmful effects sugar has on the body. The average American consumes nearly 66 pounds of added sugar each year, and about 19.5 teaspoons every day ("How Much Is Too Much?”). The problem with sugar is a large part in the obesity epidemic that America faces. Causes The reasons Americans have too much sugar in their diets because of added sugars in products, drinking soda, and due to lack of education about the dangers of sugar. Three Day Intake

...nutritional values. This project was about assessing and evaluating our food intake and what things can and can’t be modified to live a healthy lifestyle. This paper focuses on protein, carbs, and lipid and fiber intakes. Also, how my diet can be adjusted to be healthier and more nutritional. The foods that provided protein on all three days was Eggs, Bacon, orange juice, soft tacos. Watermelon, milk, banana, waffles, McChicken, Chicken breast, broccoli, crispy rice, apple, and steak, and loaded mashed potatoes. The foods that contained carbs was the same and my sweet teas, and sodas which I had all three days. All of my foods have lipids. Based on my food journal I took in 16%, 20%, and 26% of protein. All days was acceptable between 10%-55% is the recommended amount. The Carbohydrates I took in was 58% on day one, 62% on day two, and 48% on day three. Again, all these is in the acceptable range for my DRI, which is 45-65%. My lipid intake was 19%, 21%, 27%. My first day was below average for my DRI, which scaled between 20-35%. If going by my DRI; the three days I ate and recorded I was in a good range for my macronutrients. If I would have eaten more fast food, and less home cooked meals I would have seen a huge difference in my DRI, Having a balanced diet and keeping on track with the macronutrients is important to prevent macronutrients deficiency. According to "Orphan Nutrition" (2016), macronutrient deficiency is “the lack of the nutrients required in large amounts for healthy...
