Summary Of 'A Howling Success And The Missing Lynx'

...The texts " A Howling Success" by Gerry Bishop and " The Missing Lynx" by Kathy Kranking have many similarities and differences about how endangered animals can be helped. One of the biggest similarities is that in both texts, the endangered animals were helped by scientist capturing them and releasing them in another space (the "rabbitats" and Yellowstone National Park.) Another similarity is that people were the main cause that wolves and Liberian lynxes were endangered. The people hunted the rabbits and killed the wolves; both texts give a message that: if you want less animals to be endangered, stop killing their prey or them. Also, another similarity is that the main helpers of the wolves and Liberian lynxes are the scientists. There were...

Only People Can Save the Planet

...and neglect has had profound effects across the world. Effects which can be reversed if nature is given the time to repair the damage. All we have to do is to stop or try to decrease using things which we think are very important, stop poaching and destroying plants. Going green does not have to be a daunting task that means sweeping life changes. Simple things can make a difference. As an example, if every household in USA replace one regular light bulb with one of those new compact fluorescent bulbs, the pollution reduction would be equivalent to removing one million cars from the road. I think that all the people should understand the potential incidents of not changing ourselves in order to save the planet. Since today’s world is changing rapidly, people do not understand the value of our nature that is why it is very difficult to save endangered species. For example, lynx in Lithuania are under threat and even creating reserves would not help to protect animals from being haunted. One of the possibility how we can retain lynx could be to keep them in captivity. However, this is not a good solution as lynx...

Unilever Case Study

...Unilevers growth strategy Critical Analysis of the Performance of Unilever since 2006 In 1999, Unilever implemented what they considered to be an ambitious strategy named 'Path to Growth' which they believed achieved a lot in terms of 'brand focus, global buying, operating margins and capital efficiency' (Cescau & Rivers, 2007b). However, according to the then Group Chief Executive Patrick Cescau, the 'strategy failed to transform growth performance' (Cescau & Rivers, 2007b, 1). Consequently, adjustments were made to the strategy between 2005 and 2006, aimed at reorganizing and streamlining Unilever's organization and to increase awareness of the Unilever brand (Johnson & Scholes, 2006). The changes improved Unilever overall between 2006 and 2009 despite the economic downturn which was to occur during the course of the strategy implementation. Between this time period Unilever primarily focused on four areas: innovation, disciplined execution of strategy, focused cost cutting and driving a performance culture (Unilever, 2009a). In terms of innovation, Unilever delivered 'bigger and better innovations, rolled out faster and to more markets' (Unilever, 2009, 5). The tremendous success in fast and effective rollout of innovations was enhanced greatly by the one organizational structure (One Unilever) introduced into the business as a result of the adjustments made to Path to Growth (Unilever, 2009a). For example, the Dove Minimising Deodorant has been rolled out across...

Why Do Tv Films Portray Native American Myths

...powerful supernatural creature in the mythological traditions of some Native American tribes including the Algonquians, Ojibwe and the Potawatomi. On the other hand, Anishinaabe people believe that Mishipeshu is not strictly evil, saying “Mishibizhiw is greatly feared, and often said to cause drowning deaths” ("Anishinaabe Traditional Beliefs”). Mishipeshu is described generally as having “the head and paws of a giant cat, but is covered in scales and has dagger-like spikes running along its back and tail” ("Legendary Native American Figures: The Water Panther (Mishipeshu)"). Combination of features from many animals are also used in the description of Mishipeshu. Further described as having the body of a wild feline, often a mountain lion or lynx, the horns of deer or bison, upright scales on its back, occasionally bird feathers, and parts from other animals as well, depending on the particular myth (Olsen, Brad). Mishipeshu are represented with exceptionally long tails, occasionally with serpentine properties. The creatures are thought to roar or hiss in the sounds of storms or rushing rapids. Calling Michipicoten Island in Lake Superior home, Mishipeshu is guarded not only by Great Lakes water, but also chunks of nearly pure copper (Godfrey, Linda S., and Mark Sceurman). Further associations with copper extend to a story of a Jesuit missionary named Claude Dablon. Dablon told a tale about four Ojibwe Indians who embarked on a journey to the home of Mishipeshu to take some copper...

...Appendix SCSI The Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) The Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) is a set of parallel interface standards developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for attaching printers, disk drives, scanners and other peripherals to computers. SCSI (pronounced "skuzzy") is supported by all major operating systems. Traditional SCSI has been superseded by later attachment protocols such as Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and iSCSI, which build on the earlier SCSI command structure. Since SCSI uses a low-voltage differential (LVD) bus, a method where data is transmitted by comparing the difference in voltage between a pair of wires, its speed and cable lengths are limited. As a result, SCSI is now largely implemented via serial communications like Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), which offers significantly higher performance. HDMI The High Definition Multi Media Interface (HDMI) is a single cable and user-friendly connector, provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). It supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel digital audio with bandwidth. USB The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is very user friendly & is referred to as plug and play because of its easy use. Before USB, connecting devices to your...

...I was introduced to archery by purchasing a compound at Northwest Archery. A round wheeled compound made by Martin Archery, a Glenn StCharles' "Buckskin" During the years I carried that bow, both at the range and in the woods, I dreamed of something better... I finally went back down to NWA and spent my IRS refund on a Martin "Lynx" with all the upgrades, bells and whistles. Shot at the range regularly, and hunted with that bow for many years. Hanging around NWA, I was exposed to "Traditional Archery" Listening to stories from Glenn StCharles and others in the shop, hunting Elk with Joe StCharles, and other "Traditional" archers, I became immersed in the history of archery, especially its history in the U.S. I read every book I could get on the subject, the Thomson brothers, Ishii, Saxton Pope, Art Young, Chester Stevenson, Howard Hill, Roy Case, Kore Duryee, and others were my heroes. I set down the "training wheels" and began using recurves. I collected them, enjoying the craftsmanship evident in the individual bows. One of my hunting companions was Don "Bowdoc" Ward, who also had gone back to traditional after hunting with a compound, even restoring bows he found at garage sales, swap meets, etc.. I embraced the "Traditional" archery life, and involved my whole family. I have little fiberglass bows, a few wood longbows in 8#-18#, a 20# maddog "pup", a 30# Pearson recurve, and a few other "kids" bows, just so my own kids and their friends can shoot with...

Animals In Chernobyl

...There are some major differences in how they live because of their diet. Some animals eat differently, some animals eat the same, some eat animals with higher radiation. The differences and effects on animals just depend on the species. Hedgehogs do eat differently than normal, usual hedgehogs mainly eat insects and worms but in Chernobyl, they mainly eat mushrooms. Some animals such as bears do not have a change. Bears normally eat fish and in Chernobyl, they eat fish even though they have radiation in them. A problem with the animals that eat fish is that the fish live in contaminated water. Wolves also eat normal, the wolves eat Przewalski's horse, elk, and moose. A problem with what they ate was that everything had radiation. When hedgehogs ate mushrooms they had radiation in them. When Carnivores ate other animals they consumed radiation...

Mercury Motor Company: Rebel Without A Cause

...automobile history, its recognizable design, and it’s great reputation. In the 72 years that Mercury was in business, they made a lot of cars. Their smaller compact cars were some of the best- sellers because they were more economical and used less gas and oil than their full-sized counterparts during the oil crisis in the 70s. The Mercury Comet was Mercury’s first compact car and was in production for a total of eleven years. In those eleven years the company sold a lot of Mercury Comets because it was in between the more expensive Lincoln models but was nicer than the similar Ford models. The Mercury S-22 was not as popular as the Comet and was sold for only three years; it was not as big of a hit as Mercury had hoped. Then came the Mercury Lynx, Topaz and Tracer. They were all very popular cars, and the Topaz, and Tracer were Mercury’s longest production compact cars. “After 1999, the Tracer was discontinued” (Wikipedia). Last but not least is the Mercury Mystique which is Mercury’s most current compact car. It was made from 1995 to 2000. It was a fairly boring car, and not many models were sold because of the fact that Mercury had started using similar designs as Ford and Lincoln car companies.”The future direction of Mercury came to light with the revamped 2002 Mountaineer,”(Wikicars), Which must not have been promising because Ford shut the company down in 2011. Not a lot of people know that Mercury made trucks, too. That is probably because they were only available in Canada...

Virgin Galactic

...Research on Virgin Galactic Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic has us all excited about space travel, but we are slightly less excited about the Virgin Galactic cost. Those tickets into suborbital space are not cheap, and most of us will not be able to afford the trip for a while. What is the Virgin Galactic Cost? A 2008 book about space tourism stated that, "The cost of suborbital flight advertised by private space companies such as Virgin Galactic and Starchaser Industries is in the order of U.S. $200,000." [Source: Erik Seedhouse, page 27]. Virgin Galactic's webpage confirms that $200,000 is still the cost of a ticket of admission, and that at least 100 people have already paid that fare in full. [Source: virgingalactic.com]. Apparently, the company intends to keep the cost of tickets at this level for the time being. Will the Virgin Galactic Cost Come Down? In a 2008 interview, Stephen Attenborough, commercial director for Virgin Galactic said he thought competition would eventually drive ticket prices down to $50,000 or lower. [Source: The Independent]. He did not give any timeframe for this decrease. It seems inevitable that competition will force Virgin Galactic and other space flight companies to lower their prices. Low price is, after all, the most obvious way for a company to distinguish its product. But with $200,000 spaceflights still a thing of the future, it might be a while before the average Star Trek fan can afford a trip to space. Conclusions...
